Nintendo Wii U: Zelda Producer Talks Zelda On Wii U

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma told Industry Gamers that he has been actively working on the Wii U for the past two years. Aonuma was often asked by Nintendo how the Zelda franchise would work on the Wii U, which resulted in the stunning high definition tech demo we saw at this years E3.

“Well, one thing I want to emphasize here, when talking about the Wii U Zelda HD experience, is that we really built it specifically to be an experience. The idea is using Zelda as the backdrop for one of these HD experiences, what kind of representationZelda can make there. But this is really just to show people what kind of things the console can do. And so, it’s not necessarily the case that we would use that graphic style or depiction the same way we would in a new Zelda, when there is a new Zeldafor the Wii U. Just like the map functionality that was also implemented in that experience – it’s simply us giving an objective look at the kinds of things that can be done with the HD hardware. And Zelda happened to be the filter through which we view it in that experience. So nothing is defined right now as far as how we’ll proceed.”

“It does bring up a question that I think we are examining and will continue to examine, which is “Looking at the capabilities that are in our hands, what kinds of gameplay possibilities are out there for a Zelda game that goes online, maybe something that goes multiplayer?” But it’s all about, for us, finding a clear direction to take that online functionality, to use that online functionality. Once we have that, I think things will move forward. But, until then, we’re in the process of really asking ourselves, “How will this be a natural extension – a natural and enjoyable extension of what makes the series the series?” So that‘s something for the Zelda team to continue to examine as we move forward.”

  1. Online Co-Op would be an amazing addition to the Legend of Zelda Series. It could change everything especially how you would design, look, and play the game.

  2. Look, wee see an aaaaaaawesome Zelda Clip, and then they tell us, that they only meant it to be a taste of the Wii U, and that the Zelda for the Wii U could be totally different? Are you kidding me? .____.’
“Zelda The Wind Waker”, was my first Zelda! I LOVED IT <3 The graphics were awesome! But the "Twilight Princess" graphic really amazed me! I loved it more then this comic graphic! Then they came with "Skyward Sword": The graphics are nice, kinda lovely and I will totally buy it! But the "Twilight Princess" Graphics were the best so far, and I want a game, which is again like that! So this little Clip in the trailer made me happy! But now Eiji Aonuma destroyed my dream .____.' …. But in the end, I'm gonna buy it anyways! ^.^

    1. Aonuma didn’t say anything we didn’t already know. Nintendo said from the start that if was a tech demo, people just don’t know what tech demos are. They did the same kind of demo for the Gamecube and then released Wind Waker. Same again with Mario128.

      1. Thats not a recycle of graphics, if it was, TP would be a recycle of OoT and they would be recycling OoT’s graphics.
I am more interested in something like, if not exactly like the tech demo. Those graphics with a very dark themed zelda would be awesome, dangerous and beautiful.

  3. They should create a strong single player game like they always do but then add a layer of online multiplayer on top of it to create rich, vibrant world that the Zelda franchise so desperately needs.

    1. God damn that was a dumb thing to say. How the heck would it be like Mario kart? What your telling me is that any game that has online support is Mario kart? Dumb ass

  4. ZELDA GAMES = AN INDEPENDENT ADVENTURE…..SO MAYBE IF IT IS LIVE….
MAKE IT LIKE DC ONLINE WHERE THERES A EVER CHANGING WORLD….OR LIKE 4 SWORDS WHERE YOU CAN HAVE 4 ONLINE FRIENDS PLAYING AND SINGLE PLAYER COULD BE REALISTIC GRAPHIC FULL ZELDA STORY MODE

  5. Look at Portal 2, it has one of the best singleplayer modes I’ve ever played and still has an amazing Co-op online! If Valve can do, so can Nintendo!

  7. I like how the tech demo looks to be honest. It’s gorgeous. It can look stylized like this without being too dark like TP. Realistic =/= dark and brooding. I’m tired of people relating the two. Not every “realistic” game looks like COD, overly saturated with little color. Not bashing COD btw..

  8. Keep this idea for a Pokemon game. I mean, Pokemon was always meant to be a social game, and that’s why they have always been on portables. But now, online gaming is becomig more popular and immersive. Plus, if it were on a home console, we could form teams with our friends online, and finish the game together. And also make it more of a Third person perspective, instead of overhead. Also, with all of the power of the Wii U, it would be possible to make more accurate animations (so we wont be surfing on a blue blob all the time) and make it possible to travel to all regions. That would be awesome. (even though i’m 18 :D)

    1. im personally looking forward to a Mortal kombat like pokemon game,FINISH HIM (Pikachu beheads a charzard with a lightning bolt)PICKACHU WINS Raiden:good little pet!

  9. I LOVE ZELDA! SAME FORMULA SHOVED AT ME OVER AND OVER AGAIN, BUT FOR ME, IT WILL NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER GET OLD. EVER.

sure some people say its been released so many damn times they even know whats gonna happen before it even happens: zelda gets kidnapped, link goes to find her… collects: boomerang, grappler hook, bomb, fairy, heart container, iron boots, fishing rod, bow&arrow, bigger wallet, light arrow & master sword but come on! are those items really in EVERY zelda game?

    ?

then he fights ganondorf, triforce wonder powers unite, kills ganondorf *boom*. the end.

THOSE PEOPLE ARE JUST IGNORANT AND RACIST. ZELDA IS A MASTERPIECE & IF THEY CAN’T APPRECIATE IT THEN PPL LIKE THAT DON’T DESERVE HAVING KIDS.

  10. Nintendo never fails with their first party games, especially Zelda and Mario. and they won’t disappoint with this one. I completely trust their judgment on this they find the answer they are looking for.
