Even The Producer Of Tekken Admits He ‘Doesn’t Get’ The Wii U Online

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 director Katsuhiro Harada admits that even he doesn’t fully understand Nintendo’s online service for Wii U. This is Harada’s response when asked whether or not the Wii U can compete against PlayStation Network and Xbox Live:

“Not quite sure at this point. I don’t fully understand it. We’re still working with Nintendo to find out about their network.”

    1. I agree. They’ll never get back the core audience without it. And they need to realize casual games can succeed, too. Imagine singing karaoke online with your friend who lives across country by video chat. Or playing multi-player online with New Super Mario Bros. U (which has no online). It’s a wasted opportunity if they don’t get online gaming right.

        1. It’s confirmed, no online multi-player for NSMBU. It seems so obvious to include it, but they didn’t. I’m still going to play it, and I’m sure it’ll be good, but Ninty just never goes all the way.

          1. I know. Especially since the WiiU has voice and video communication and it would seem like the natural next step to integrate that with their games. Let’s hope the lack of online in NSMBU is mainly because it’s a launch game.

          2. I can’t be entirely positive but I have a feeling that they omitted online multiplayer from new super Mario bros u because any lag would just destroy how the game is played.

              1. I know you’re a troll, but this is just too much. Networking? Bad connections? Ever heard of them?

At least use logic if you’re trolling. I expected better from you, Aeolus.

    2. First of all, let’s get the facts straight here people.

NSMBU (just like Nintendo Land) only plays how it is supposed to when you are playing by yourself or with friends in the same room. You just simply cannot get the same feeling by playing with some random person online.

If this were to be integrated, Nintendo would need to include video chat on the Wii U GamePad while playing the game to make the experience more immersible as if the person playing multiplayer with you is right next to you. This is possible with the Wii U, but I would imagine it would take some doing for Nintendo to get it to work seamlessly with no latency issues or lag (on video chat or in game) while playing online with friends. Once again, it was doable, but you guys need to choose:

      1. Do you want the game to be available at launch or not?.Or,
      2. The game gets held back for a few more months and Nintendo loses money as a result for not having a Mario game to sell with the Wii U.

You’re an idiot if you want to go with option one. Online is something that is completely unnecessary in a core Mario game. Until the day comes where an experience can be personally shared in a similar fashion to local multiplayer, I don’t think Nintendo will ever go the route of online gameplay in games like NSMBU and the upcoming Super Mario 2013 on the Wii U. The game is finished. Everything about the game looks amazing, especially the Miiverse functionality (which is technically an online component of gameplay).

To be honest, I think Nintendo is focusing on that concept for their next console (after the Wii U’s generation) as we speak.

Stop getting your knots tied up over the lack of online multiplayer. You got Miiverse functionality which is good enough in my book. Why don’t you get some friends or family members to play with instead? It’s why Nintendo does this in the first place. They still want you to go have an actual social life.

        1. “NSMBU (just like Nintendo Land) only plays how it is supposed to when you are playing by yourself or with friends in the same room. You just simply cannot get the same feeling by playing with some random person online.”

when i play online with someone it’s usually not some random person

and yes i wouldn’t mind waiting for a game if that means it comes with some interesting functionality.. and who made you think it wasn’t implemented because of lack of time anyway? that’s complete speculation on your part

just because you wouldn’t like playing NSMBU online doesn’t mean others feel the same about it

      1. You blew my comment completely outta proportion. I never bashed NSMBU for not havin Online nor did I bash Nintendo Land (although it does desperately need it, imo). All I’m sayin is that they have to take their online more seriously this generation or else they will fall behind once more. Stop tryin to read too far between the lines

      2. not to forget that the wii wasn’t released with any mario games either.. the first mario game came a whole year later
it obviously didn’t hurt wii sales.. and why should it

    1. “Harada emphasized that the netcode will be as solid as those of competing systems, but it’s still a mystery how players will connect and play online”

okay, that’s a lot more reassuring, it looks like it’ll be as solid as PSN or xbox live, but nintendo is just doing a bad job at communicating things to developers

                  1. You’re seriously gonna let that bother you? Shit man, you dont even know them… thats just sad if you take that too seriously. smh -_-

                    1. No no no it , doesn’t bother me , its funny lol . but i just cannot be bothered with some ass hole who is probably jealous that my comments seem to generate more votes than his . It’s a website full of proper soulless nerds , so i say logical comment’s and someone replies ”you are annoying” because nobody cares about their shitty comment’s.

Just had enough of that site , lol . same with IGN , full of ridiculous retards , there is normal people aswell but mostly ridiculous retards .

Enough is enough on wiiu daily .

          1. “Seriously , you have a dildo in your ass .”
            sounds just as random as
            “And you’re a serious faggot.”
            and then this happens…..
“The man who doesn’t know anything about gaming and just makes up random things to try and back himself up .”
            facepalm*

So to conclude this, I see one arrogant fanboy(also a hypocrite) and one arrogant troll. Anyone else likes where the internet is going?

  1. He is just simply implying , he doesn’t understand the complexity of mii verse and all the other wacky unheard of shit nintendo is throwing at us .

but the trolls probably thinking ooo blah blah blah this affects online gameplay blah blah .
It will be fine in terms of the network and the gameplay . Harada is just saying ”WTF!!! do you want me to do with miiverse ??”

    1. Yes everyone , this thing can play online games in the sameway the 360 does , big matches of your precious ‘COD’ and all that junk .
Things like facetime chat , miiverse and many many other wacky things need to be properly explored or exploited by developers .

      1. Seriously, how the fuck are you supposed to know that ? You talk like you’ve been developing the WiiU. Boy, the truth is you don’t know shit about its online system. How are you supposed to ? YOU NEVER TRIED IT.
You’re accusing people for making up stuff while you’re making up the biggest craps that were ever made up in this community. A fucking hypocrite, that’s what you are. And a fanboy. Yes.
And he doesn’t imply that he doesn’t understand the “complexity of Miiverse”, he is clearly stating that he doesn’t understand the online system of the WiiU, which in any case is a bad thing. Online systems are supposed to be easily understood, so people won’t have any difficulties in using it. But if even the developers don’t understand it, I’d say it doesn’t look too good for Nintendo. This was their chance to make up for the failure of online system they used on the Wii, and things like this make it sound like Nintendo wasn’t that successful in doing so.
Stop looking for excuses to justify things Nintendo is doing wrong, they are not perfect. Deal with it.

          1. Are you in the possession of an ability that let’s you read people’s minds ? No, you are not. So stop making up shit. He made a simple statement, and just by reading that statement nobody can tell if he was implying something or not. And stop trying to make yourself believe that every single thing people say about Nintendo is positive. Because that’s definitely not the case.
And yes, he did say something bad about the network by saying that he doesn’t understand it. What kind of use does a network have if it’s hard to understand, even for a developer ? A network is supposed to be easy to understand, as I said in my earlier comment. If one can’t understand it, how are they supposed to use it ?
Common sense, that’s what you need. And senseless insults do nothing but make you look even more ridiculous than you already are. Congratulations.

                  1. No. We are simply able to have an honest opinion. Just because we don’t suck up to Nintendo in every single situation it doesn’t mean we are haters. Well, I can’t be certain about Aelous’ opinion on that though, lol. But judging by his comments I’ve seen so far, I’d say he feels the same way ?
Anyway, I’ve been a Nintendo fan for plenty of years now, but that doesn’t mean I can not express constructive criticism nor be a fan of other companies at the same time as well.

                    1. Lol, I use my brother’s account though. So it’s a rather “manly” username, eventhough I’m a girl.
Just give me yours, I’ll add you.

              1. I did see Aelous’ comments. And I must admit, though I am a long-time Nintendo fan myself, I often agreed with Aelous (except those cheap impersonators that were trying to troll him/her. I’m talking about the ones who are like the original, first Aelous on here). Seriously. Plus, his comments are often pretty amusing, actually. And they definitely make more sense than this Nintedward’s comments ever did. Just my opinion.

              1. No, I’m just stating my opinion about you.
What do you think YOU are ? Thinking you are cool or something because you try to defend Nintendo even if it’s obvious that they did something wrong. What are you expecting from posting comments filled with pathetic fanboyism ? Do you think that Shigeru Miyamoto or I don’t know who is going to see it and entitle you the most annoying Nintendo fanboy that ever existed ? I am unable to understand what the point of your completely senseless comments are.
And what are you trying to accomplish by telling me that I should shove a knife up my arsehole and twist it ? Are you really trying that hard to make everyone notice that you are the most pathetic person in this whole community ? If so, then you’re doing a very well job, actually. Though I’m not quite sure why anyone would want to do that. But okay. I guess it’s alright to let the reasons for the behaviour of fanboys remain a mystery.

                1. The guy is a character, just stop feeding him.

What’s disturbing is how serious he is. I’ve learned all to well that he is a waste of space. He will formulate the most ridiculous hogwash to defend Nintendo. It’s actually the stuff of nightmares, the kind of things you’re reading that leave you asking yourself “What the FUCK am I reading?”

Just skip over his username, you’ll save yourself from the headache.

                  1. Couldn’t have put it any better. Really.
But whenever I read his comments I just feel the urge to answer. He seems to be the definition of a Nintendo fanboy. Nothing but a disgrace to every true Nintendo fan.

          1. come to my sense? about what? i’m pretty sure most people on here already knew that i played battlefield on pc…and i’ve had it since the day it came out….so i really dont get you’re point lol

                    1. And about a year later it will have newer competition that will very likely have better, more refined versions of their networks.

        1. I think the most players online for a console is 24 (Total miner on 360). 64 players on a console won’t happen next generation.

            1. Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for Wii can have up to 32 players, At least when the server was still up lol, and thats on a 2007 game on the Wii. Correct me if I am wrong

      1. That’s because you don’t trust your eyes. don’t you remember the Zelda tech demo from E3 2011? I never played a game in current generation of consoles with better graphics than that. and it was running in realtime.

        1. You must not have never owned a HD console then, I can list a load of games that look better than that. UC2&3, Killzone 3, God of War III, Skyrim…I know I’m missing others. That was not an impressive demo.

          1. I have a PS3 and Xbox and their games don’t look like a CG animation like the Zelda tech demo did. Of all the games you’ve quote maybe uncharted 2&3 are among the best visuals I’ve seen in this generation (on consoles), and yet I find that Zelda tech demo really better in therms of animations, smooth moviments and character modeling.

            1. Smooth animations…? It looked very stiff. There wasn’t even any AA, it ran at 30 frames per second and was also found to be 720p.

I think you’re just excited with Zelda footage actually look like a modern day console game for once. Which could probably explain why you’d say something like that being used to the series looking the way it was previously.

              1. And you may just be underestimating the Tech demo because you will never admit WiiU is more powerfull than PS3 and 360.

And yes i’m a huge fan of Zelda and I’m very excited about that footage because It was running on Twilight Princess engine and yet it looks great, I can’t wait to see Zelda running on the new engine they created for WiiU.

                1. I have seen that demo in person, it is in no shape or form better than the kind of footage seen in newer PS3 exclusives.

…Every 3D Zelda is practically the same game engine by the way.

                  1. ”it is in no shape or form better than the kind of footage seen in newer PS3 exclusives.”

You nailed it! Because I’ve played all best PS3 exclusives and the first PS3 games looks like crap, they are not even close to what Wii U do in the front line Up (which is on pair with the latest PS3 graphics) Did the PS3 evolved over the years? YES, a Lot! just imagine the potencial of WiiU.

And No, Zelda games are made in different engines for every console. specially Wii U, since they will want to take advantage of the graphics capabilities.

                    1. A game engine isn’t only just graphics, it’s more than that. Physics, namely.

Look at the combat system for OoT/WW/TP/Possibly SS. Everything is nearly identical to each other, maybe some minor tweaks here and there. But as far as I’m concerned, Nintendo just keeps modifying the engine ever so slightly. Plenty of games do this.

                    2. @Aeolus Like I said “Zelda games are made in different engines for every console” TP and Wind Waker are both gamecube games.

  2. Hopefully they will have another conference or at least a big Nintendo Direct that goes into more detail about their online network.

To me that is their big innovation for this generation. The controller is great and unique but its not necessarily all that ground breaking when you really think about it. With the spread of tablets and smart phones and being able to control anything and everything with those devices, a touch screen in the controller makes sense. Given how little information we’ve really gotten about their online plans only strengthens this belief.

  3. Talk about taking it out of context.
Long as you can play games online, which it can, its already “on par” with everything else.
Nintendo dont “run the online”, each game can used its own servers. Call of Duty doesnt run off Sony’s or Microsofts server, its all done by Activision, thats why its never anyway different on other console ($50 lies from microsoft).

Heck, Mario Kart Wii’s online was good, it worked, it was fast, it was competative. And the 3DS online has impressed me alot.

He’s basically talking about the Miiverse.

    1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots

Right? People nowadays don’t seem to understand ANY article anymore. It’s like when Epic said: ”We didn’t intend the Wii U to run UE4, but games can be ported to it if developers so wish.”, people were screaming that it doesn’t support UE4 natively, no you dumbasses, it means they didn’t intend it to be on the platform right away, AKA they haven’t tested it on it, there is no version that supports specific Wii U GamePad features, stuff like that.
What happened to the times when people actually understood news?

      1. Exactly. The WiiU CAN run U4, Epic just dont have plan, yet. Although today, an article got posted about Cliffy B keeping an eye on the WiiU.

        1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots

I saw that article, but the fact that he didn’t say that they have plans for it like other devs, just supports the fact that they just don’t know what to do on it yet. I’m thinking they want to finish UE4, and then think about games, unless of course they have a small team secretly working on a game.

          1. Exactly. I mean U4 isnt finished, same way the Fox Engine isnt finished. Just because theres a game being made around both doesnt mean its ready or being used my other developers. Its basically a test run, and they can alter it from there

      2. The way people like to missinterprit things and start crying is hilarious .
remember when rayman origins developer said ”wiiu is perfect for 2d games”
        people litteraly said
”does this mean it cannot play 3d games” even though he was implying its got the right power level to render 2d games perfectly in 1080p 60fps.

        1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots

It’s like people don’t know how the world works anymore, there always has to be something behind the picture. When a dev says their game looks really beautiful in certain parts of the game, people start asking if it looks terrible everywhere else.
When a dev says their sequel is different than the last game, people imagine the sequel being a whole other genre than the 1st one.
It’s ridiculous, people just can’t have plain news without asking some overthought BS.

    2. Well, I really like the online features on 3DS it’s better than Wii and I don’t think Nintendo will do anything lower in therms of quality. but the Miiverse is a selling point of the system, I think they should talk more about it, show how it works for real, just like they did with Nintendo TVii.

      1. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots

I’m guessing they want to have that be the icing on top shortly before the console launches. I mean if a developer doesn’t get it, then it has to be something bigger than just a lobby with Twitter features, don’t you think?

      2. Exactly. As a base online that the 360 and ps3 has, its clearly just as good as them, but the Miiverse hasnt been fully shown or explained and honestly, i think its been hidden because, once again, or microsoft and sony. Nintendo know online was their major strong point, and if Nintendo make something better, they know they’ll imitate it.

          1. I see. the first moment I saw the Miiverse I thought: “This is what sony and microsoft will copy on their next console”. I mean, we are all used to twitter and facebook, but they never meant something for our games (unless publishing notes). Now Nintendo started to bring new features for the online gaming, and came up with the miiverse which is (imo) the best communication feature a console ever had. I think they will show it’s full potencial closest as possible to WiiU launch.

    3. Well I’ve had a lot of problems with Mario Kart Wii.
I don’t really remember how it worked, but what I do remember is that I have a friend that I could never play with, unless someone else played together.

  4. Aeolus likes to suck off monkey dicks, and the monkey is Icy Dead People, and they also seem to be a idiots

What’s the fuss about? He just doesn’t get the whole thing at this point. It has probably something to do with Miiverse and stuff, so maybe Nintendo has something to reveal about the online. He didn’t say ”It’s a bad system, it’s laggy, you have to use FC codes.” and so on. What’s with gamers nowadays exagarrating what’s in the headline and the article itself, it’s like they forgot what some of the words mean, or they forgot what kind of sentences mean what.

  5. I mean the Wii U is soo different current gen consoles. You can’t just automaticly know how things work especially brand new things.

  6. SICKR I see what you are doing with this alarming title. After septembr 13 even Aeolus knows Nintendo are doing everything greatly and giving us the most definitive version with more content that DLC ever had in multiplats. This Tekken producer might be one of the most under skilled developers in Japan.

      1. Damage controlling what? Wii U is already selling out in pre orders, 3DS is gaming and running the gaming world, how is the Vita doing? or the exbox in Japoan hahahahahahaha.

  7. Ugh… this does not bode well. All Nintendo had to do was mimic XBOX Live and put their own spin on it, and it would have been well awesome. Instead they tried to re-invent the wheel and came up with an octagon.

    1. why mimic? why not innovate? without that we would stuck in the same damn place all the time! btw this says absolutely nothing about how online works and the console is not even out yet so give it some time it might be good, it might be shit.

              1. I’m sorry but you’re the one that decided to reply to my comment. So therefore you are the one who should gtfo. I only made a statement. Sides, what makes you think I’ll actually shut up? I have no reason to nor do your pointless demands have any effect. I never even said developers, that was an assumption on your part

                1. Uhm, it very well has to do with it. The developers need to know the online system and you’re implying they’re being secretive in general.

If he doesn’t understand it; something is wrong.

                  1. *laughs in your face* and I never said it didn’t have anything to do with the developers, but why act like I was the only one that made this statement?

              2. In addition, your reason for being on this forum is unnecessary since all you and you’re other incarnations do is waste time trolling ppl.

          1. It seems that way. It (because aeolus could be a she) responded to my comment like as I was the only one who believes ninten is bein secretive about stuff again. Seems as though he can’t justify his existence on this forum

          2. That’s ironic since in you’re in every thread I’m present (or clones) complaining about me like a little pussy with nothing better to do.

            1. In every one? Lol another assumption you made. I only joined into this forum recently, about a month and a half ago. Not every reply I’ve made focuses on you alienating people her. That’s a bit sad thinking all of my comments are about you.
And I don’t complain, I only speak the truth as everything I’ve said about you and your other clones is exactly what happened yet do you see me demanding you to shove a dildo up your ass or go eat a dick? No. I ask of you to justify your reasoning for being on this forum, which you avoided answering yet again

                1. Lmao. That’s another thing that amuses me about this forum. You aeolus, you’re mediocre attempts to alienate me and you’re constant evasion of my questions is hilarious.

                    1. Yet you’re reply was towards my reply? (Yours has a line that leads directly from the reply button of my previous reply if you didn’t know)

                1. Ends up where YOU are? It’s a public thread and you comment on EVERYONE, usually 20 it you troll someone successfully!

                  You have no logic!

  8. Pingback: Nintenderos.com – Wii U, 3DS, Wii, DS, Videojuegos y Consolas Nintendo | El director de Tekken Tag Tournament 2 duda sobre el online de WiiU

  9. im not worried, i play alot SSF4 + kid icarus + mario kart 7 online in the 3ds and i have no issues… it just works fine

  10. There will most likely be another Nintendo Direct before launch to showcase Miiverse and the Wii U OS. Online interaction will be a big part of Wii U. There may be hiccups at the start bu they’ll get it right eventually. Leave luck to heaven.

    1. I have access to calculus books but I don’t “get” it. My mom has access to written sheet music but she wouldn’t know how to read it. I can do math and my mom can read, but just because we fulfill certain prerequisites doesn’t mean we’re learned enough to understand everything at our disposal.

      1. why are you comparing things that take a long time of prior training to grasp to a video game network that children are meant to understand as soon as the system is released

esp when this guy has experience in the subject

unless he hasn’t actually touched the network, then i’d understand

      1. Just like a PC person trying to get use to its “mandatory” new Apple computer or a certain ignorant who keeps tries so hard to get the attention of people by bashing Nintendo on a Nintendo website.

    1. Well yeah that could be a reason, but why wouldn’t Nintendo make it easy as possible and/or provide assistance in getting to know the online system? The fact it’s so close to the release date and a well known developer is saying this, is a tad bit worrying.

      1. I really hope that Nintendo is doing it this way for a valid reason, but I’ll have to wait and try for myself. Some people might get it right away and some people won’t. Everyone is different.

  11. Well, that isn’t confidence boosting for Nintendo’s Online System :/ As long as they don’t make it as bad as the 3DS’s online, I’m fine.
