Nintendo Says Wii U Deluxe Set Is Selling Out Incredibly Quickly

Nintendo of America’s Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of sales and marketing, has revealed that the 32GB Wii U Deluxe set – which comes pre-bundled with Nintendo Land – is selling out incredibly quickly in the United States. Despite initial concerns over the pricing Moffitt thinks Nintendo picked the perfect price point for the system, and consumers tend to agree.

“All I can say is that the response has been phenomenal and we’re getting, especially in the higher priced deluxe set, that one’s selling out incredibly quickly. That seems to indicate that the pricing’s in a good spot and the proof is in the consumer response.”

“Certainly we’ve seen brisk pre-sales and that the phone calls have been coming into our headquarters for quite a while now asking for more and so we do expect high demand. But I can tell you this – on opening week we will have more systems on hand for the Wii U than we did for the launch of Wii. And, second, our replenishments will be more frequent this holiday time than during the Wii launch.”

“But, having said all that, it’s impossible to exactly predict demand, and so I can’t say that we won’t have some shortages out there and that people won’t have to be a little patient with the replenishment truckload and shipments and boatloads to arrive.”

  1. You dont say me, siriusly? the set that is giving more things is selling better than the one that give you the minimum? unbelievable

  2. $350 is a very good price, in my opinion, for something that is 3-5x more powerful (Aeolus will definitely disagree) than an Xbox 360/PS3. I can’t understand what people are complaining about. Plus, you get a free game, too.

    1. I’m sure Mr Troll Superior will also disagree but you’re talking out of your arse. Sure, it is more powerful but 3-5x seriously? And even if it was, it’s 7 years newer, hardly shocking that it’s better.

      1. There is no way it’s 3-5 time better in terms of Graphics lol. Yeh it has 4X the RAM etc etc. But the graphics over all with be 1.5X to 2.0X better with 2 screens and higher rez and framerate…

Not exactly a killer leap , but good enough for the next 5-6 years.

        1. Yes, 3-5x more powerful is plausible. If you didn’t know, top-end PCs are over 20x more powerful than an Xbox 360. Just because the games don’t look 3-5x better doesn’t mean the hardware isn’t 3-5x better. It’s better to think of it as a graph. Near the point of origin, power and how good a game looks are perfectly correlated, but as the power gets higher, the axis for how good a game looks curves. A working example of this would be how the NES->SNES->N64 were all huuuuuuge leaps, but the N64->GC->360/PS3, not so much, despite each console topping the other one by a similar ratio.

          1. Yes , I know of this Graphical ”curve” you speak of :P! . But yeh , maybe 3-5 times as better components, but the graphics are just going to look like Refined PS3 graphics. Like maybe the difference between an Xbox and a Dreamcast. Hardly much at all.

            1. It’s not Graphically 5x better… it’s a combination of GPU, CPU, RAM, how fast all those things talk to each other and integrate with each other.
Why do people always assume power means graphics?
Games haven’t really made any sort of leap forward in graphics since the introduction of 3D or Direct3D. Compare first gen, true-3D rendering like N64, to something out today that’s considered insanely good, like, let’s say Black Ops 2 (released 2 days ago).
Besides a whole lot more polygons, and textures and bump mapping, and a hundred cosmetic type features…nothing really sets it apart from those games.
Things can always “look” prettier, but that’s not where innovation lies. The Wii U, from a graphical standpoint, will look prettier still, PS4, XB720… PC’s in 10 years time, Wii U 2 etc. etc. will look prettier yet again.
2 games in history have ever made me pick up my controller and truly say “Wow”… Mario 64, Goldeneye. Those games were pure enjoyment, man…these days it’s all about how many polygons the main characters eye-lashes have.

        2. Minimum six times better. That one Nintendo Rep said nineteen times better then the PS3 lol. But then again the two years ago at E3 that was an early version of Wii U and it took ten % of its power to do the Zelda demo that the Xbox and ps3 couldnt do.

          1. Yeh we will have to wait for a true graphical measurement. There is absoloutly NONE in like the first year of the wiiu. Rayman Legends , Trine 2 looks beautifull , everything else looks current GEN maybe a tiny bit better (not a bad thing).

When Bayonetta 2 and others come along maybe then we can measure wiiu’s full potential. It may very well be 6X a 360.

              1. This is why (personally) I prefer console gaming over PC gaming. A full blown PC-Gaming rig will cost you thousands, and you need to upgrade it every 2 years in order to keep up with games at a constant rate (assuming you want to play them at, “best of the best” settings). Considering the power difference between a PC and a console, no developer ever gets time to take advantage of that crazy hardware on a PC, because manufacturers just keep bringing out new tech too fast for them to keep up.

    2. Thats because all the consoles are pre ordered already, why open at midnight at high costs while you can sell these units a few hours later without the hassle.

  3. FURST POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
    HEHEHEHE!!!!! KEKEKEKEKE!!!!!!!!!

  4. Well thats good. Hoping to get mine sometime during December, hopefully they’ll hae enoigh stock (and i’ll have enough money)

  5. I will pay 7300 pesos for my deluxe Wii U, 999 pesos for ZombiU and 999 for black ops 2 and i will be very happy to be in bankrupt :)

  6. Why people keep complaining about graphics???? Its simple, next gen wont be as powerfull as courrent pc graphics, even with that theres not much diference with courrent gen and pc, just more objects on screen and better lights.
If courrent gen gets ports of pc games, Wii U for sure will get a lot of games plus Nintendo has the best first parties.
If ps4 or 720 make a huge leap, expect game to ve over 70 usd that will deliver you the same fun as courrent gen, why pay more for the same, plus a console with extreme good graphics would be over 700 usd, with that you can buy something better like a Wii U and a big TV

    1. I really don’t think graphics define a generation anymore. Yeah, Frostbite is gorgeous, but compared to current gen systems it’s only marginally better compared to the leap between SNES->N64. I think this gen is better defined by motion implementation and online services, and the next will be about better immersion (a second screen, NFC, biometric readings/feedback etc)

      1. Yep people need to know that graphics are reaching its limits, Nintendo already know that, and they are starting to improve (again) the way we play videogames.

      2. This, And Sony fans talking about graphics as a generational leap is fucking rich. Because the N64 had twice as good graphics as the ps1 straight up. And the Gamecubes best games shat all over the PS2’s. Metroid prime , windwaker , F-zero GX >>>>>anything on PS2.

  7. My major gripe with the basic set is that paltry 8GB of storage.

Which apparently, after setting the console up with your account and whatnot is reduced to about 3GB…

    1. 8GB/32GB is fine for save data, music, photos and other basic stuff, but you’ll NEED to buy an external HDD if you want to put games on there.

      1. I won’t necessarily “need” to buy an external HDD so fast if both SDKs were 32GB, that’s my problem here.

Combined with the fact that digital games cannot be stored on a SD card just really reduces the convenience.

  8. Nintendo of America is on the verge of selling more than 1 million Wii U units all across North America. The prices of each set are just right… despite Ubisoft’s CEO’s disagreement. I would love to see Nintendo’s Global President Iwata-san swimming in a bed of $$$ while staring at a bunch of bananas while NoA’s Bill stares at an orange!!!!!!!

    1. I am super annoyed everyone decided to do preorder rather than 1st come. Then other retailers told me they will not be doing preorder and changed two weeks later.

  9. I’ll be picking mine up on Monday since ill be away on Sunday. I was hoping for a midnight launch so I could still get it on launch day ;(

  10. Wow, Nintendo is all happy about this I bet.

I will go to the midnight launch but I imagine that will be a long night.

  11. A shit alternative will force you to buy the Deluxe set anyway. To make something look good is to present something else even worse.

  13. I have a feeling the Wii U was going to take off. When my son watched the commercial with the teen girl making the kid turn his game off, but was able to keep playing on the pad. My sons eyes lit up and said that’s what he wants for Christmas. He told me a lot of kids are talking about it at school. That is always a good sign if a system is going to win or fail.

As far as power and graphics go. How much better do you need? Ps3 still blows my mind, but have crap family and kid games. I like what Nintendo is doing. I feel like they are taking the “Apple” business model on this one. We are going to do are own thing and others can do what they won’t to do. I really hope they deliver on the “Nintendo experience” they have been talking about.

  14. “Selling out incredibly quick”? Both consoles has already been sold out for WEEKS. Was there something I didn’t know about?
