Gabrielle Shrager, lead writer and story design director for Wii U exclusive Zombi U, has explained what she would change if a sequel to Zombi U were ever be announced. It appears as though melee weapons would be the first thing Shrager would change, given the chance. Shrager went on to say that a number of hardcore players solely completed the game just using the cricket bat, so it would be nice for those gamers to have a wider choice of melee weaponry.
“More melee weapons would be one of the first things on our list. Give me a halberd to keep those zombies back! The pickings in the Tower of London’s armory would feel like Christmas!”
The cricket bat was designed to be used almost as a last resort, significant because it’s such a violent assault on your senses. Players quickly learn that it won’t save their bacon against more than one zombie at a time (either the hard way, or by listening to the Prepper). Some players depend on it entirely instead of scavenging for ammo and new gear, and these players deserve a richer melee experience.”
I can’t FUCKING understand how they do this – Animal Crossing, the best selling 3DS game OVERALL in Japan; and it’s predecessor selling in the top ten ALL TIME DS games – has taken over THREE years to get here. THREE. And it’s already out in Japan. We’ve waited over THREE years JUST for a fucking release date. And when they release some trash like fucking BRAIN AGE, it gets a release date as SOON as it’s announced. My only question here is: why do they do this? My theory is a. either Nintendo’s leaders either have a strong racist hate for the rest of the world of b. Nintendo of America is the most clueless company in the world and Reggie does nothing all day but be a useless figure head and dick around with “epic memes!” to please Nintendo’s shitty fanboy fanbase. HOW can they fuck up this much? We got City Folk (undeniably the shittiest, worst Animal Crossing) BEFORE Japan, so I’m gonna guess it’s the racism. Nintendo fucking hates the rest of the world. This is 100% bullshit. How can one company be this incompetent and horrible to its fanbase?
Or due to them designing most of their games in Japanese it takes them ages to translate espesialy for this new ac game because its so much more advanced than city folk
Think of it like this- Would you rather have a rushed game or a well thought out game? The more we wait, the better the game could be.
……what does this have to do with ZombiU
and how is it racism in any way
Oh, I’m sorry. Let me just take your Wii U which released in North America first, and while I’m at it all of the games that released at launch you bought for it, since they also released in NA before in Japan. It takes time for Nintendo to convert the language to English, and the voices to English, and this game wasn’t even made by Nintendo themselves, it was made by Ubisoft who operates in Europe primarily. Nintendo doesn’t hate their consumers, they take the time to make sure what you get is a quality product and not some rehashed piece of junk like another Call of Duty that took less than a year to develop. When you buy a game made by Nintendo, you get a game full of time, effort, soul, and innovation. It took Nintendo six years to fully develop Skyward Sword, and guess what? It released in North America before in Japan. Why don’t you try to make a game in your native language, then try translating it fully and properly to English while making sure it will actually do well in the other country? Why do you think Microsoft isn’t big in Japan? Because they don’t take the time and effort to do any of that. Also, Animal Crossing 3DS only released in Japan a little while ago, not three years. They showed the trailer for the game roughly three years ago, but it was still in development. Animal Crossing 3DS is coming to North America in just a short while, but seriously, get your facts straight, and don’t complain. If you do want to complain, then get out of here and go take your poorly made games with you. Leave the good ones here for us, Mr. Troll.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf came out in Japan on November 8th and we’re getting it in Q2, which is give or take 6 months later…you don’t know what you’re talking about dumbass
Yeah, relevant topics are the worst!
I like you.
*does that neat thing with you that friends do where we hit our hands together*
I have no idea, what you´re talking about! But… you probably don´t know it yourself :D
cool story bro
What are you talking about? Animal Crossing has just been released in Japan and it will be launched in America in Q2 2013, that´s about 4-5 months later, hardly 3 years later……
Shut up man, I will have to wait FOR FUCKING FIRE EMBLEM: HEROES OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS FOR ETERNITY! WE NEVER GOT IT! Don’t be such a crybaby man!

Now I haven’t played ZombiU, but I can understand the changes. More melee weapons=more carnage.
All of these fanboys say this game and the Wii U are trash, but I think they are just jelly Bill and aeolus needs a life, and Ness and Neutron should date(although neutron might not like it since Ness is a girl, confirmed from aeolus).
Jellybean isn’t a troll. Users assume that because of his earlier posts. All Jellybean is, is a user with a different opinion. Even if he is (or was) a troll, he is an inactive one, so please leave him alone.
Read what he said carefully, Jelly = jealous in his context. Also, Jellybean is most definitely a troll, just cause you want to blow him doesn’t mean he isn’t.
He is not really a troll because he doesn’t really attack people with his bullshit. His thing though is that he only cares about modern games and big graphics, sure it’s a high voltage topic and opinion but it doesn’t seem to be just to annoy people
^ Nut job.
Ha, it could do with a lot more than just melee weaponry. Better AI would be a good start.
Less bugs will help.
Better zombie intelligence? Wut?
Maybe you’re the one lacking in that department.
Its sold (USA) over 130,000. Dunno if that’s good or not, but they have sequel ideas. I was shocked to learn the bat was the only melee weapon…
“I was shocked to learn the bat was the only melee weapon”. If that was the only melee weapon then they will need a LOT more in the sequel. I wouldn’t mind butchers knife or a chainsaw in the sequel.
Well you also have to consider that it is a survival game which may prove to be troublesome for a weapon like a chainsaw. The noise alone would draw attention to you and it’d probably have to run on some battery or gasoline. If I have a blade, I want a katana so I can quickly and quietly cut their heads off haha.
Those aspects of a chainsaw would be exactly the kind of thing Ubisoft would use if they added it into the game, as a power balance. Maybe you can shred through zombies, sure, but you gotta keep the fuel up, and boy oh boy is it gonna attract attention…
lol I’d love to look at it, but never use it.
I’d use it just for the lolz xD
Yeah from your post I can see why a chainsaw would be a problem. A katana sounds like a nice weapon but a tomahawk wouldn’t sound too bad.
shut the hell up you simpering, whiney, little pissant.
shut the hell up you simpering, whiney, little pissant
she explained my experience perfectly

ZombiU was pretty damn terrible, I expected it to be much better.
I loved it an think it was the new definitive game in survival horror.
Zombiu is absoloutly incredible experience. But the game could be so so much better with an extra year or so of development. More weapons , Better graphics , etc etc would take the game from being an 8/10 to a 9.5/10. I expect ZombiU 2 to be like what red steel 2 was to number 1. AKA a vast improvement.
That´s your opinion! But I played it far more than Assassin´s Creed 3, because I liked the tension and atmosphere a lot. Sure, AC 3 may overall be the better game, but the first 2 to 3 hours are so damn boring, that I can´t convince myself to play it further. Even if it gets better later on!
Well I have about 15hrs of game time with AC3, still just as boring as the first 2hrs, I can’t even force myself to play it. AC3 will be the death of AC, what a bullshit game lol.
it was an extremely refreshing game experience. I’d be excited for a sequel.
A great game. More melee weapons to choose from is a good idea, but I think I’d opt for a change in the controls first. It is my weapon of choice for being a silent killer and conservation of ammo.
However, I honestly struggle with the cricket bat because I have terrible depth perception and timing in this game that I don’t with others. If I had a little bit more control over how to swing it, I don’t think I would mind.
I don’t own a pro controller so I have no idea how those controls work, but with the gamepad, it feels somewhat clunky. Not with the touchscreen as that works really well even in mid-battle, but with the character movement, camera movement and the bat. Anyone else agree?
I found it sooo annoying to click ZL and then ZR to attack. That’s why I didn’t enjoy it much.
Love to see Ubisoft make a sequel to ZombiU for the U. Add more of everything!!!!!
Zombi2?
How about Zombi TU?
you sir are a genius
I respect those that managed to get through the whole game with just using the cricket bat. I’ll attempt to finish my game like that.
What I’d like is either Co-Op, An online mode that’s similar to the raid mode in Revelations and/or a broader selection of weapons
Co-op would be a blast !
Agreed…I think co-op where one person could play on the tv and one on the gamepad would be awesome…and allow the players to wander where they want to, so one player could be looting a building and another could be out in the street killing zombies or whatever.
I only have the demo of this, but I do use the cricket bat a lot more often.
I just want them to fix the glitches of the first game
That would be a nice change on top of better graphics which should happen with a sequel since Ubisoft would have a lot more time to polish a sequel. And not only should a sequel have a wider variety of melee weapons, but the melee combat should also actually work with the gamepad motion controls as advertised in a few of the Zombi U trailers. i.e. shaking the gamepad when a zombie grabs you so you can get the zombie off you instead of just getting bit. Or having the option of swinging your gamepad to swing you’re melee weapon at a zombie. Again as originally advertised. Point being Zombi U is a great survival horror game but if a sequel were to come out with the right improvements it would a badass awesome game. Please make a sequel Ubisoft.
How about you start by actually making a good game that doesn’t send me to sleep because Zombie U was pure garbage.
You forgot to ad your name aelous.
Why, because it wasn’t a “survival horror game” in the likes of recent Resident Evil titles or Left 4 Dead, but a return to true survival horror, and your poor brain couldn’t handle the lack of constant action in a game that is trying to build tension and suspense, in a world where you’re supposed to be struggling to survive?
I can’t wait to hear what the next installment of Zombie U will bring
I want Zombie U but I don’t think it is worthy of spending $60. I feel the same about Batman Arkham City Armored Edition, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Tekken Tag Tounament 2, but that is because they were old already, Zombie U I want but with mixed reviews I find $60 too risky an investment, I don’t want to be disappointed.
Tekken tag 2 was not old, it got released just 2 months later.
In the world of video games, especially for fighting games, two months my not be old but it is not new either.
So EA scamed ps3 owners wen they released mass effect 2 a full 1 year later and Take 2 did the same whit bioshock?.
Mass Effect 2 came out on PS3 the same time as Xbox 360. I think Bioshock did too. And if it didn’t then yeah, they scammed them.
It’s a complete game. It took a lot of effort to create, to a lot of people. It costs $60 because it’s worth them.
More melee weapons like the hammer you use to board up doors. Punching and a knife. Thats all we need for melee weapons. My main issue if they make a sequel. NO FUCKING GAME BREAKING GLITCHES THAT FORCE ME TO START THE FUCKING GAME OVER AGAIN. I never finished the original ZombiU cause twice my game has had a game breaking glitch that forced me to start ALL OVER AGAIN.
this game is only worth 20 dollars, game braking glitches, fuck you, will bye it for 5$ in a year or two
stupid ubisoft
I havent played this yet, but more weapon variety sounds like something it needs.
Another thing it sounds like it needs is stealth gameplay mechanic. Give us the option of sneaking past.
And lastly, let us aim down the fucking sights. You can make it look more realistic, in terms of camera distance, but just let people aim down the sights.
Add whatever makes the game better, just don’t make it simple like many games out there today where you barely even die once, it’s boring and not worth the money playing a game you can easily finish.
I want games to be hard enough it makes you tense like hell and where you actually care about making it to the finish.
That’s also what isnlacking in Zelda games…if they were harder I would enjoy Zelda games so much more.
I would love to see more Melee weapons. I haven’t beaten the game yet, but the cricket bat is pretty damn near useless. It’s so weak. Either add more Melee weapons or make the cricket bat stronger.
I use Melee weapons mostly in L4D2, so I guess the lack of then made me a bit upset.
