With the Year of Luigi in full flow the spotlight is firmly on Luigi, the man in green, who takes over from Mario in New Super Luigi U, in his own platform adventure exclusively on Wii U. Luigi and friends battle their way through over 80 brand new courses all tweaked to be even more challenging and exciting! This game is available as both Add-On Content for New Super Mario Bros. U via Nintendo eShop on 20th June and in stores as a standalone game across Europe from 26th July.

New Super Luigi U is designed to test the capabilities of seasoned gamers and fans of the series, with the simple act of travelling to the Goal Pole at the end of each course remixed with seemingly improbable jumps, formidably hidden Star Coins and all with just a time limit of 100 seconds to do it in!

With Mario taking a break in this twist on New Super Mario Bros. U, Luigi takes centre stage bringing a set of skills that change the way you play! For instance, Luigi can jump much higher and further than Mario, and is able to cross chasms and reach platforms that Mario never could in a single jump. Players better watch out though as Luigi finds it a lot harder to stop once he starts moving…

Take on the challenge with friends in multiplayer in New Super Luigi U, where players can join Luigi as Yellow Toad, Blue Toad or Nabbit – a character first seen in New Super Mario Bros. U – and now playable for the first time! Nabbit brings his own nifty skills to the table; he is invincible which will make life easier with enemies and obstacles, and any items he collects are converted into 1-Ups at the end of the course. Nabbit is perfect for beginners and when paired with Luigi, he offers a whole new multiplayer experience. Or join in with Boost Mode and help Luigi to reach new areas and jump further by dropping blocks into the course with the Wii U Game Pad touch screen for the ultimate speed run!

New Super Luigi U is available via the Nintendo eShop as Add-On Content for owners of the digital and disc versions of New Super Mario Bros. U on 20th June – and will also be available in retailers as a stand-alone game disc on 26th July.

    1. Just cause its at the top, why the heck not. Australians, Get it download. Retail is DOUBLE the price of the download.
      Download – $30, Retail – $60
Get the download, plus its early. Its really the better decision.

    1. Nintendo eshop, New super mario bros U, add on content.

Also I was hoping I could get this since I rented NSMBU, but it didn’t let me so I’ll have fo wait for the physical copy.

      1. Smart of Nintendo. All those people that rented it instead of purchasing it, will need to purchase the original to play it…. or wait for the retail release in 2 months.

  1. I’m waiting for the physical version. I might pick up Game and Wario or Animal crossing NL today instead. I’m in no rush to play more of this series right now .

    1. Ditto.
      I’m don’t with side-scrolling Mario for a while.
I’m not saying it’s a bad game, but I’ve HAD MY FILL of platforming Mario.

I’ll check out Game & Wario, but I’m not seeing much reason to boot up my WiiU. I’ll probably play some Revelations, as that’s a pretty fun Port.

For now, it’s all 3DS for me. (with some WiiU sprinkled in)

It’s depressing. I look at my WiiU, and WANT to push te power button, but decide I’d rather just open My 3DS instead.

  2. I’m holding off for the physical copy just for collectors sake. But I do want to know how big the file size is for the digital add-on out of curiosity.

If anybody could tell us, that would be great.

  3. when nintendo first revealed this, I was happy about it, but I don’t feel the same now, I just want my pikmin 3, July 26th seems so far away :(

    1. Yeah same here, while I’ll end up getting it, I want Pikmin 3 a lot more. I already pre-ordered it, so now I gotta wait to pick it up day one.

    2. Yea… Last night for nostalgia sake I booted up my wii pikman and play for like 3 hours… .then switch to pikman 2 and played for almost 6 hours. I can’t wait for pikman 3.

      1. Yeah I’ve been playing Pikmin 2 to beat it again, lol. I’m gonna love Pikmin 3, but I’m gonna have a hard time to decide whether to stare at the environment or kill things!

        1. Lol…dwl… so true… I was saying the same thing too. I am soooo pumped for this game. This is a straight download for me. :)

      1. !^ Sorry for your misfortune. I bet Nintendo is just a little late on getting it on your eshop. Or maybe it comes out at a later date for you?? 💋

    1. Ooh good, so I’m not the only one who can’t seem to find it.

Between this and the 3DS StreetPass (non) update, North America is getting teased big-time!

  4. Typical nintendo, can’t get shit right.

I will wait for the nintendo direct, which should come sometime before mid july, before I buy anything else from them :/

  5. Silly question here, hope someone can help. Do you need a digital copy of NSMU or is a physical copy ok to get Luigi add on?

    1. A physical copy is fine, you requirement to download it is to do a software update by loading up the game to prove that you have it.

  6. I wish Nintendo could take off region codes like Sony and Microsoft, Wii had a lot of great Japanese games, or UK games in the USA.

  8. its 730mb when installed, not too bad at all especially since i have the basic model, but ive got a 1tb hard drive sitting doing nothing so im not too worried. game was released at exactly 12 o clock last night in UK

  9. IT’S OUT! DOWNLOAD THE NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. U UPDATE BY LAUNCHING THE GAME! On the file select screen, there will be a New Super Luigi U icon. Click it, and it’ll take you to the purchase page!

  10. It’s hard. I laughed so hard at my kid, as he was so mumbling seeing GAMEOVER at first stage and making nasty comments every 20 seconds. He is a good player and he thought he would go through it at full speed. Difficulty level is raised a lot.

  11. I have completed it up to Bowser, I skipped the water world, and I’m going to do water world tomorrow, then beat Bowser, it was much easier then I thought it was going to be! lol :D

  13. A german shorihatred pointer???? So cute!!!! She looks almost identical to ours. You are a really nice mom. Those dogs need a ton of physical activity. A perfect gift for a boy like Dash.
