Steel And Ghost-Type Pokémon, Honedge Details Emerge

Junichi Masuda, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video game Director from GAME FREAK, sent a special video message today at the Japan Expo in Paris. Included was the reveal of an all-new Steel- and Ghost-type Pokémon, Honedge, which debuts when Pokémon X and Pokémon Y launch worldwide on October 12, 2013.

It is now known that Honedge comes into being when a departed spirit possesses a sword that once belonged to humans. It can use the blue cloth attached to its hilt as nimbly as an arm. Pokémon Trainers who carelessly take this blade in hand may find the blue cloth wrapping itself around them and draining their energy!

Honedge can learn the attack Swords Dance, a Normal-type move. Swords Dance is a frenetic dance that uplifts the fighting spirit and sharply raises the user’s Attack stat. The effect can be increased by using this move multiple times in succession, helping Trainers who deploy this move at the beginning of a battle to overwhelm one opponent after another!

            1. You have alot of “Drain”, in those two names, the first name sounds close to bloodrayne, has a nice ring to the name, I would call it: GrinBain,SilvLux,CalEdge,or SteelPeek.

        1. “Saying “Honedge” sounds like a name for a vegetable or porridge…”

Really? I prefer the English name. It sounds like ‘ownage’, unless you’re not pronouncing the ‘H’ silently.

          1. Nintendo Commander

I guess it does sound a bit like “ownage”…

But I would have prefered a “scarier” name for it…

            1. It’s hone as in honing your skills and edge as in, well edge of a sword. Like most pokemon names it’s a combination of two words.

        2. I personally like the name Homedge much better than the french one. The French one: Monorpale, doesn’t even sound like a swords name. At least Homedge has the word “edge” in it which gives me a Soul Calibur/Soul Edge feel to it. 💋

    1. huh… i refreshed quite a few times to make sure…. and nothing appeared… I’m not exactly sure how these comments actually work. :\

  1. if its overall stats aren’t garbage I might train it. doubt it though. can’t wait to see the dragons of this gen.

    1. I would suspect that this Pokemon has good stats. It’s typing is almost flawless, it doesn’t look to evolve or it may be a final form (but that may or may not be true) and the Pokemon company are advertising X and Y with it. Like with Zoroark and Lucario (who BOTH have good stats and abilities). 💋

  3. Ghost/Steel damn lol. Thats a strong combination. So Fire is the most effective on him, other then that nothing really works on him lol. Funny how they made Fairy type cause they felt Dragons were to strong with only 2 weaknesses…yet they make Honedge with only 1 weakness unless Fairy is good against him? Imagine a full team of Honedge in an online match lol. If the other player doesnt have a Fire type they’re screwed.

    1. You can’t play with more than one of any Pokémon. Also resistances are only one element in a battle, it will be nice but based solely on the typing doesn’t mean much in terms of power.

  4. I reckon pokemon needs a more places to explore and new pokemon plus the pokemon x and y starters are great also Mabey lnclude where you can go to other reigions and exetened the poked ex and add more challenges to pokemon x and y
