Another Major UK Supermarket Drops Price Of Wii U

wii_u_gamepad_up_close

UK supermarket Waitrose is the latest supermarket in the United Kingdom to drop the pricing of the Wii U due to disappointing sales. The retailer is selling the 32GB Wii U Premium unit with Nintendo Land for £199.99 and the Wii U 8GB Wii U Basic console for £149.99. The retailer is presumably looking to get rid off excess stock, so if you’re after a Wii U it’s certainly worth grabbing one at this price point.

      1. 6 I think: Tesco, Morisons, Asda, Sainsburys, Waitrose and Co-op, i live in the uk and im not to confident in my answer :D

    1. The most successful UK supermarkets are ASDA, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
Waitrose is a more recent chain of supermarkets that isn’t seen very often, but still manages to get by.
Then there are quite a few other supermarkets, though they specialise only in food produce, so they wouldn’t sell Wii U systems anyway.
ASDA and Tesco are considered the leaders of the UK supermarkets, however. ASDA because it’s part of the Walmart family, and Tesco because it is the longest-running chain of UK supermarkets.

  1. Next new post will be about Walgreens drooping the sales of the ps1 and n64 and for kids that don’t remember they use to sell those.

  2. Anyone who shops at waitrose doesnt need a game console, they can just get there servents to fight for there amusement :D

    1. UK never really supports Nintendo like Japan or the U.S does. And even though there are a lot of gamers in the U.S that are “hardcore” like in the UK there are just more people in the U.S who buy multiple systems like Microsoft and Nintendo or Sony and Nintendo. And there are also a lot of people that buy all 3 of the systems. In the UK your typical gamer usually supports only one system and every now and then you’ll get someone who owns two. 💋

      1. Plus we have this “nerd” craze going on right now (yes Nintedo is considered dorky in America) where people think it’s cool to do nerdy things like wearing black rimmed glasses, being smart, playing videogames (especially Nintendo), playing instruments, watching anime and other children’s shows, etc. 💋

  3. yeah in the UK Wii U seems very much a dead console, quite sad really as its a good piece of kit.

Then again its only dead because no-one has even heard of it, Nintendo need to do a marketing push and soon!

  4. If only greedy walmart, K-mart, cosco, shopco, sears, crogers could drop prices of the WiiU to $149. Then again they are smart and know that a nintendo Holliday game extravaganza is upon us. Uk buyers buy those consoles in bunches. Mario 3D world, Sonic and gang are on there way. Buy now while the console is cheap. UK used to be a gamers paradise, it’s now FIFA and COD, shake my head.

  5. Wicked deal – but I’m still gonna do my best to resist it…At least until Sainsburys follows suit, since I have 10% discount there :P The only thing thats really stopping me getting a Wii U atm is I have a big backlog of games I’m meaning to play first, before I fork out 200quid to play a couple more…

  6. Why buy a console when i have a PC emulator & free games

    Google Dolphin emulator.

You idiots probably dont have the brains to install it though :p

  7. I still think it’s weird that UK supermarkets sell electronics in the first place.

A supermarket in the U.S only sells Food and some little things here and there like wood, gift cards, medecine, flowers, etc. These stores would be your Market Basket, Shaw’s, Trader Joe’s, etc.
You want a T.V or a Wii U or something other electronics? Then you have to go to Best Buy. I can’t think of any others aside from Radio Shack maybe, but they don’t sell T.Vs or game systems.
Then we have department stores like Target, Walmart, BJ’s etc. Which sell food, electronics, toys, clothes, jewelry, art supplies, almost everything.
THEN we have Game Specialty stores… well actually Gamestop bought them all out. So now we only have Gamestop…
THEEEN we have stores dedicated to home improvement and construction products and services like Home Depot and Lowes.
…we also have a whole bunch of other specialty stores like clothing specific stores such as American Eagle, Hot Topic, JC Penny, etc. We have shoe specialty stores like Aeorosoles. We have food specific stores called… resteraunts…obviously. We have automatice specific stores like Pep Boys… we have a lot of specialty stores.

Basically we don’t have supermarkets that sell electronics. To us that would be called a Department store. ;) 💋

    1. Depends on the Supermarket chain and the market its in. Here (Maryland) Safeway has all that a regular grocery store has plus a bank inside and one local one sells used games and new 3DS games (no consoles) along with Blue ray and DVDs. Other local chains Giant food and Harris Teeter (Kroger) same deal. Radio Shack also sells TVs ( think you said yours don’t) and video games and consoles. A lot of the larger US Super marketed are becoming more like a department store to compete with Walmart.

  8. i think the failure of the supermarkets to sell these type of electrical s is not that people don’t wont them it is the price the customer is willing to pay your talking places where the £60 blu ray player sells better than the £150 blu ray player. and most people don’t pay more than £20 for a pair of jeans.

specialized electrical’s always take longer to sell and supermarkets wont fast sale as it try’s to sell things like they are a loaf of bread
