Japan: 3DS Sells 180k And Wii U Sells 75k, Puzzle & Dragons Z Comes Top

This week’s Media Create Sales are now in from Japan. At the top of the charts this week is the newly released Nintendo 3DS title Puzzle & Dragons Z, which sells a whopping 540k copies. The former free to play mobile app had taken the Japanese gaming market by storm and it looks like it’s not giving up any time soon.

Elsewhere in the software chart is a great boost for Super Mario 3D World, which shifts almost 58k copies, while the rest of the chart is dominated by a number of 3DS titles in the run up to the holiday season.

But the biggest news, and perhaps the most vital, is the Wii U sales figures which have begun to creep up steadily week on week. Wii U sales have reached almost 75k this week, climbing another 25k up from last week’s figures. Plus, Nintendo 3DS and XL sales reach a gargantuan 180k this week. 1. Wiiu selling twice as much as Wiiu at this time of year? didn’t see that coming considering how the DS and PSP absolutely wooped the Wii and PS3 in japan last gen.

This is excellent news for the Wiiu, and should bring in a bit more japanese dev support!
3DS is just beasting it like a champ.

  1. The more the Wiiu sells in japan, the more people will play with other people and show them the Wiiu. Hopefully kickstarting a knock on effect in sales.

  2. So um “you thought” SM3D world got Wii U to sell 100k in Japan this month. What’s a system seller? I thought you said SM3D world wouldn’t stay top ten after a month?. Last week it sold 28k.

    1. Indeed. I’ve always stuck true what I originally thought. Wiiu will slowly gain momentum, sell about 40M lifetime and become yet another classic Nintendo home console a la N64.

N64 sold a third of what the PS1 sold, yet it’s arguably the greatest console ever. Anyone ringing the doom alarm about the N64 back then would of just looked retarded.

  3. Wii u is Doomed and Gloomed remember? At this rate they could they could almost reach five million by the end of the year leaving them 4 million more to reach their goal which I doubt will happen. But hell Tropical freeze could surprise.

  4. This is some great news for Wii U. However I’d wait till the other two next gen consoles are out in Japan to see how it goes. I really hope it continues with a rythm of +-100k a month

    1. Wait for the other 2 next gen consoles? First of all, they are current gen so please stop saying next gen and second…Xbox One won’t sell in Japan just like how Xbox 360 doesn’t sell there.

    2. All Nintendo needs to focus on are exclusives. 3Rd party refuses to work on Wii U games on how the hardware the way it was created. So Nintendo just proved they don’t need 3Rd party to sell hardware. I’m fine with that since they lack Online and other features but charge the same price. Yet a 2014 Kia Optima LX is cheaper than an XL since it lacks leather seats , sunroof, automatic climate control, dual exhusht , and Infinty speakers and Microsoft’s UVO which the voice command sucks like sync and the Xboxone

  5. I love Nintendo but I am legit surprised that the Wii U is selling this well in Japan. Maybe the word spread of 3D World or something but this is cool. Lets keep it rolling Nintendo, don’t F up again. Now to watch the direct

    1. Ps3/Vita sales didn’t seem to pick up at all. I could undefstand PS3 since PS4 will be out soon, but the VIta? Sales are not even proportional to the jump nintendo has been getting…I don’t know if Nintendo fans are as delusional as are Nintendo haters…

    2. Exactly, we need to wait till February to see how sales are. #DonkeyKong:Tropical Freeze is going to be released then so who knows. February is the time to take notice. I love Nintendo, all I own is Nintendo systems. But you have to give us Nintendo fans something right? We haven’t had much to celebrate.

  6. Holy moly! 75K for Wii U!? That’s excellent. All these sales are starting to pick up! The quality of Nintendo’s game is still there! :)

  7. So awesome. I’m glad to hear the Wii U is doing better. Let these rises in sales be a slap to the face of all the idiotic trolls on this and other sites.

  8. This makes me smile. I was getting very worried about the Wii U. I was almost afraid to buy one because I was starting to think it would get discontinued or something. But, I hope they come out with new Wii U colors soon. I want something like red, blue or green.

  9. I didnt realize the ps4 wasnt released yet in japan and wont be until 2014 (from some articles I just googled). I am very pleased to see this though and wish the sales would increase like this in the US. Either way I cant complain anything is better then how it has been doing. Go nintendo!

  10. – Super Mario 3D World total sales in Japan is posed to surpass GT6 total Japanese sales
    – OVERALL JAPANESE HARDWARE SALES (except those of PS3) INCREASED
    – 3DS overall software sales increased; some titles back in top 20
    – Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U reached top 20 for the first time
