Target Stores Hacked For Credit & Debt Cards Black Friday And Beyond

The Verge is reporting that Target has recently become a target for hackers during the busy holiday season.  Krebs on Security says the popular retailer is investigating a serious breach that could involve “millions” of customer credit and debit card records. Krebs says that the unfortunate breach “involves the theft of data stored on the magnetic stripe of cards used at the stores.” Online sales are said to be unaffected.

The Verge says that data that was stolen is “track data”  which allows crooks to create counterfeit cards by encoding the information onto any card with a magnetic stripe. If the thieves also were able to intercept PIN data for debit transactions, they would theoretically be able to reproduce stolen debit cards and use them to withdraw cash from ATMs.

        1. hate to break it to you but they already are the only differnce is its not used for your benefit. you have a cell phone dont you? you have credit cards and an ip adress correct?

          1. K sickr, that’s good and all but you miss out on some actual gaming news. Yesterday a sale popped up for splinter cell blacklist (the new one) for 15$!!
Don’t you think you should be informing people about stuff that directly translates into gaming, rather then long shot news story’s that barely go deeper then mentioning “Nintendo”?
I want news about Nintendo, and games on their systems. Not what some random persons opinion is, or playstation sales numbers.
-I’m still on the edge cuz of this. Smarten up man

    1. Very good point. This site is becoming transparently “just for clicks”
The day I stop enjoying the non Nintendo news or find a better site
      I’m gone.

  1. How dare MNN try to warn it’s followers about the potential theft of their credit card, days after reporting a target sale of Nintendo product.

    How inconsiderate. How dare they!

This is an outrage and I hope they feel bad for warning us.

  2. I don’t see how this relates remotely to Nintendo news but I’ll bite, this might cost Target millions if these hackers are successful

  3. You would be very lucky if your debi card expires January 2014, so you would only have to watch your bank transactions for a month and you get a new card anyway…..
But, seriously, I do NOT appreciate millions of customers having their bank accounts stolen :(
    This just isn’t right!!!

  4. I am pretty sure, its the same group, that hacked sony, microsoft, banks, walmart, and other companies in the past…

are they really gonna use our information? possibly not because they’ve had many chances to do so the past 2 years..

its just telling target to improve your security because there are actual hackers willing to steal your information. and this is a warning..

  5. Otherwise, you could end up needlessly allowing this to continue the loan and wasting funds on added interest rate charges.
If you’re a dependent of one’s parents you could possibly be able to be given a yearly, increasable loan.
