Nintendo Now Has Three Years To Use Eternal Darkness Or Lose The Trademark

It has come to light that Nintendo now has three years to use the Eternal Darkness IP or it could lose the trademark. The information was uncovered via a USPTO TSDR. Nintendo has been renewing the Eternal Darkness trademark for years, but has yet to announce a new game based on the acclaimed IP.

    1. Shadows isn’t an official sequel. It gets around the trademark by never actually using any names or characters from Eternal Darkness. Hence the title is not Eternal Darkness 2: the [blank]ening or some such.

  1. Alright Nintendo, lets see Eternal Darkness for the Nintendo 3DS and maybe Wii U. I say that, because I want the game to actually sell. Plus Resident Evil Revelations worked perfectly for the Nintendo 3DS, so there’s some proof that it could work perfectly fine.

  2. So… If Nintendo wants to keep the IP, they have to announce a new use of the IP in the next three years?

Release it on the Virtual Console – done.
Make a sequel – even better.
    Both – yay.

  3. I think a new Eternal Darkness game on Wii U would be awesome and probably boost sales. Think of all the sweet new Sanity Effects that could be issued in HD and on the GamePad… or in 3D (on 3DS).

  4. Nintendo’s Eternal Darkness:
    – Takes place in daylight.
    – No blood
    – No violence.
    – Everyone becomes friends.
    – No swearing
    – No screenshots to Miiverse
    – Delayed till 2016

    Yay. Can’t wait.

    1. I know you are joking but i dont believe Nintendo would do that to Eternal Darkness. What i believe is that if they use the ip, they either let some other dev that is experienced doing games like this to develop a sequel or they do a remake/virtual console release or then they lose it. Things are definately gettin interesting though.

  6. Nintendo, this would make for a brilliant Wii U game that would boost sales. You have the trademark, you gotta use use it!!

  7. Hopefully they make a new Eternal Darkness, or qt least put the original in the virtual console or remake it in HD. Anything. Nintendo have so many fantastic IP’s that they sadly chose to completely ignore. It’s heartbreaking.
