Famed video game analyst Michael Pachter has told investors that he doesn’t believe that it is beyond the possibility that Nintendo will completely kill off the Wii U completely before 2016. Pachter also said that he believes Microsoft could reduce Xbox One price faster than it forecasted, if it feels the need to. With regards to Wii U Pachter expects the console to sell 20 million units if Nintendo slash the pricing by 50 percent.
“The Xbox One could see a reduction in RRP earlier than previously anticipated, according to one US analyst. “We think ‘winning’ is important to both companies,” Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter told investors.”
“It is possible that Microsoft will reduce Xbox One pricing far faster than we have forecasted. Should hardware prices come down faster than we have modelled, it is likely that hardware and software sales will grow faster.” As it stands, however, Pachter believes Sony is the winner elect with forecasted sales by the end of 2016 of 37.7m units, 30 per cent ahead of Xbox One’s predicted 29m.
“Pachter, ever a fan of Wii U, predicts 20m sales of that console in the same time period – and that’s on the presumption that Nintendo cuts the price by 50 per cent. He also says that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Nintendo will kill the console completely before 2016.”

Will Xbox since the original has failed to make a profit. Sony has downsized its business selling several of its buildings, firing over 2300+ employee, Its other products are failings aswell, sony didn’t profit for 5 years until recently but no thank to playstation, it profited from selling its assets while the Yen is currently weak. had to let go of it’s online advertising group which was picked up by Nintendo right away.

To be fair, Nintendo is the only company that develops video game hardware and software only, it’s competitors have other divisions, like Mobile, PC, TV and the like. But overall though, Nintendo is the least likely to go bankrupt of the big 3 because of this, heck Microsoft don’t profit off the Xbox brand, with the way Microsoft are going, especially according to this. Actually, I feel that was a smart play on their end. It took away sales from both systems, regardless how small the sales were.
think about it as voting for a new president. you have mainly democratic and republican.. so votes can swing either way. If you throw in a liberal or independent candidate to the mix, then you are taking away votes from the two main parties.

They do not get any third party games, while everyone is eager to make games for Playstation and xbox, for whatever reason. Example: Resident evil selling best on gamecube and RE4 on Wii selling over a million. How does Capcom respond? RE 5 and 6 not on the Wii. Not to mention all those games that werent even considered for the WiiU, even before the damn console launched.
Those are the problems that need to be fixed. The Price is fine, bundles are ok (though more ‘hardcore’ bundles would be nice, the ZombiU (which also desperately needs a sequel funded by Nintendo) one is the only one). Their online infrastructure only needs a real account system and ironed-out services.
I read a rumor once that capcom tried to get RE5 on Wii by building a modified engine for it. I understand your point, but the games werent much of a loss anyways.
The point is third parties are willing to go bankrupt in order to support sony and microsoft, while using some kind of distorted logic to not bring anything on Nintendo consoles. You know tomb raider the definitive version is realising on Ps4 and Xb1, but not on the WiiU. But those consoles just launched and dont have a high enough install base, so I thought they wouldnt get any games until thy magically managed to sell 10 million on first party alone?! (Which would btw make sony and microsoft quit gaming altogether, if they only had a first party game of the quality of knack on their consoles every few months and nothing else :P)

One of the major problems thst everyone in the nintendo community fails to notice is that to consumers and the general public, the wii u looks like an outdated console with an extra screen.
And do you know why that is? We get 7th gen ports rather than 8th gen, which is not fair on us, and yes the performance is on par. I’ve been able to prove that ages ago.
Wii U is not outdated. Hell the CPU in X1 and PS4 date back to the early 70’s while the Wii U CPU is far more newer, and more efficient.
“Whatever the heck comes after blu-ray” – you mean Netflix? video and software (like music) is going digital delivery/streaming. Why waste revolutions on a disc drive (on the WiiU) when you have Hulu+, Amazon Vid, Youtube, and Netflix? Why would they waste time and money adding the unneeded feature of blu-ray support on their next console (6-7 years from now), when physical media will be gone, and terabyte flash/solid state memory will be dirt cheap, and we will probably all have something like a T1 (or better) connection in the average home? While yes the WiiU is not as powerful as the PS4 or XB1, the major things that are hurting Nintendo are –
1) they refuse to micro-transaction the crap out of gamers, and spout out specs that the average person doesn’t understand
2) they are too damn innovative, while the consumers are getting dumber by the day, and most devs/publishers are lazy – so no one can grasp the real power and value of what they do. Case in point – COD Ghosts. Crappy, ugly game. What is Activision the government? Costs tons of money to produce crap like that? – where was the money invested? it wasn’t in the game, cause that game sucked, as was one code quick ported to all the systems, yet sold a ton cause the consumers are trend following morons. Kind of like how everyone hates EA and votes them worst company, only to go out and by their games – all the while surprised and pissed that there are micro-transactions and day one dlc, etc.

Most Xbox One Titles you can either get on the PS4, PS3 or 360, like Titanfall, Destiny and WatchDogs, even the PS3 and Xbox 360 are outselling the Xbone, the Wii U numbers are looking solid, especially with 2 Games being in top 10 Worldwide (3D World and NSMBU, thats right, people still play Mario). Xbox One faces competition from all these, the Wii U has too many AAA exclusives to ignore, mainly Mario Kart 8, that will be a large long-term seller if advertised the heck out of it with a Bundle. And the fact that PS3, X360 and PS4 all have similar games as stated. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Xbox One loses this Gen, especially after Microsoft’s E3 fail, Nintendo and Sony just destroyed them, Nintendo didn’t even have to go on stage. XD

Clearly Nintendo won’t discontinue the Wii U early. The Gamecube had dismal sales compared to their past consoles but they kept making games for it throughout its generation’s lifespan. The Wii U sales are improving but I doubt it will sell as great as the Wii, but who cares? They’ll still make amazing games for the Wii U :)
If Pachter was saying positive things about Nintendo, Sickr would still post it. Sickr isn’t withholding positive news just so he can post negative news. If there was positive news, he would post it. Meh Pachter can’t predict his way out of a paper bag. I remember around this time last year it was all doom and gloom articles about the 3ds. It was pretty much dead on arrival, vita owners were laughing. But it turned around and it’s more than possible the Wii U will sell more this year now that they have more games. When you focus mostly on first party games like Nintendo, sales are always slow at the start because you have less games available, it takes time to build a library if it’s mostly supported by first party. But after a year like with the 3ds, there is now a good library with more coming so sales will definitely pick up, they had some good christmas sales, they just need to bring out smash bros!
I’m not saying a Nintendo console can’t die, of course anything could flop for a variety of reasons. I’m just saying that given what happened with the 3ds, I’m used to them fighting back in the sales during the 2nd year.
Come 2016, we will see. I’ll write an article shoving this in is face, if he’s wrong.

the PS VITA should give up on the handheld console wars because they lack real 3rd party games. They don’t sell at all and is way behind Nintendo.
3DS rules because all 3rd party support really goes for the 3DS. It has far superior games then what the Vita can offer .. cross play is a joke .. as well as most of the games that support the system

Competition brings healthy game play and innovation… this is why we still have the Vita…. this is why they are trying harder to make it work…. tho most games on the system do lack a little something, there are some KO’s of the game that is far superior on the Vita than the 3DS will ever have.
Still, both are great systems….

The Gamecube was an epic fail machine that got DESTROYED by the PS2 by over 130 Million worldwide!!
To go from 105 Million Wii sales down to just 20 Million for their next console is a drop of over 70 percent!!!
The Gamecube was a massive failure and so will the Wii U, the sooner Nintendo fans realize this and Nintendo and start to make another less gimmick console the better.
The Gamecube wasn’t a failure since Nintendo made profits off of the system while Xbox, also “destroyed” by Playstation 2 made no profit at all.
Nintendo made money on the Gamecube while putting out a lot of quality games that were well worth buying the system for.
The rest doesn’t matter.
Worst case, the Wii U finishes in 3rd and Nintendo still keeps making a profit.
Microsoft and Sony will continue to lose money.
Patcher is right, Nintendo should drop the Wii U price by 50 percent as the price they are asking for a gimmick controller that in over a year Nintendo still does not know what to do with it and then people wonder why 3rd party will not even try?

The Wii U got outsold in November and December by the next gen with rubbish games…….when the huge next gen games arrive Wii U will be a joke!!
Wii U sales increased ever since 3D world came out so it is a system seller. Research things before making up claims dumbass.
Of course a new console everyone’s excited for will sell more. Still, 3D was not going to sell million out of nowhere without a big install base but it did move sells up, the Gamepad is not a failure, people who HAVE IT love it! The problem was the marketing and the lack of games.

Really? 50%? Why the hell would they do that? It would be even cheaper than the 3DS, the console is not worst than the Wii, not worst than the 3DS, is just consumer confusion, it’s not that the console is bad, it doesn’t have to be more powerful than the Xbox One and PS4 to give quality games, say hi to Super Mario 3D Land. Nintendo will not but it nor it will be done with it, they’ll just release good games and maybe have a GameCube like console, hell, they can even sell more than the Xbox One since in Japan they don’t buy those!

Nintendo isn’t going to cancel the Wii U, that’d be phenomenally stupid. Instead, they’re probably going to wait until they can release a new console (probably around 2016/2017ish) before trashing the Wii U.
