Japanese economy magazine Toyo Keizai has published its “New – Corporate Power Ranking“. This determines just how well Japanese companies are performing and grades them on four parameters: growth, profitability, safety and scale. The publication determines the overall ranking of companies in a list of 2,000 corporations.

Pretty much. I think it is having an adverse effect though. Despite the fact that Nintendo has made many stupid mistakes, no more so than any other company out there and even less than most companies on that list. The Wii U has far more games and far better quality games on it than the PS4 and XBOX One and yet the Wii U continues to get outsold. Drastically so by the PS4.
Granted the whole ‘new’ factor plays into it but that should be wearing off by now and it doesn’t seem to be. The PS4 will surpass the Wii U once it is available in Japan and I have a feeling that it may not look back even with the Wii U having a stellar line-up of proven system-selling games on tap for 2014. People just don’t care about substance anymore. They want hype,flash, and fluff.
As preposterous as the ‘supposed’ specs are for Nintendo’s alleged next-gen console may be, that level of power might be necessary to satisfy a generation that has IMO been successfully brainwashed and indoctrinated to value specs over gameplay and hardware over software.
IT is interesting that that story leaked our around the same time that Nintendo has met with investors behind closed doors. Part of me wonders how Iwata could possibly spin his way out of an injunction for removal as CEO of Nintendo by investors following a 3rd consecutive operating-loss. Maybe in addition to showing something on the Wii U that will be a game-changer he also told them about Nintendo’s future plans and these specs of their next-gen console could be accurate?
Only time will tell.

You guys, calm down. Toyo Keizai is a magazine by investors for investors. They don’t actually know how well a game company is performing. They just make guesses based on public interest at the current point in time. Just look at Capcom… they’re in DEEP SHIT right now… yet they’re above thousands of other companies who are worth, and are making higher profits than they are.
