’90s Arcade Racer Speeding Into View For Mid-2014 Release

Indie developer Nicalis has announced in a blog update that ’90s Arcade Racer will be aiming for a mid-2014 release. The nostalgia-focused racing title was funded last year on Kickstarter and will be coming to Wii U amongst other platforms.

But the tentative release date wasn’t all Nicalis shared, the publisher said that porting the game from PC to Wii U was a “straight forward process”, though there has been a few obstacles to hurdle along the way. The status update also mentioned that ’90s Arcade Racer runs smoothly at 60 frames per second at 720p with a stunning and clear image.

“Without getting into minutia that we’re probably not allowed to share in great detail, some things that worked on PC couldn’t be ported exactly Wii U without having affecting how the game performs on the Nintendo console–and probably other consoles, too. However, we’re very happy with the results. Fidelity, image quality and a smooth framerate are our priorities. Detractors note, Wii U is proving very capable of running the game at 60fps at 720p with 4xMSAA and FXAA resulting in a crystal clear image. It’s simply beautiful.”

  1. In before haters say HUHUHUU IT’S ONLY 720p

60FPS is the most important thing and the AA is great too! Why should Wiiu be expected to do 1080 60FPS when the Xbox one struggles to do 1080p 30FPS on many games.

    1. And once ahain another proof that these lovely Tribes can port games easily to the Wii U making these useless comments by the greater forces like the Electron Army utterly pathetic and biased…

    2. But 720p with 4xmsaa and fxaa, so that’s very nice. I think if they want they can get it at 1080p but then it will be 30fps. But a lot of games don’t reach the 1080p 60fps on the ps4 and Xboxone.

  2. I dont give a shit about 60fps, stable 30fps is enough. But this doesn’t look impressive at all. 720p and 60fps blah blah. Still shows WiiU is weak. Gran Turismo 6 graphics on ps3 is way better.

  3. Looks amazing, is there split screen multi?

about graphics, one ps4 video demo on Beyond as an extra is probably the most amazing video I’ve ever seen. About a sorcerer.

Indie games have proven over and over again that graphics aren’t always important.
