Japan: 3DS Sells 35k, Wii U Sells 7k

This week’s Media Create sales are now in from Japan. Soul Sacrifice Delta for the PlayStation Vita tops the chart with almost 50,000 copies sold, taking over last week’s chart-topping 3DS title, Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land. Other 3DS titles such as Yokai Watch and Kirby: Triple Deluxe continue to sell well, while Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Wii U sells a further 7k and moves up two places from last week into 15th.

In terms of hardware sales, the PlayStation 4 drops down in numbers once again, outselling the 3DS by a mere 200 units. With that said, the 3DS totals just over 35k this week, while the Wii U drops ever so slightly to 7.7k. You can find the top 20 software followed by the hardware chart below.

    1. Just as Sony has said that Nintendo is necessary for the video game business, finding joy in the PS4’s decline is merely giving more strength to the mobile games market. But hey, whatever makes you feel better about WiiU’s failure and continues to reinforce your fanboy retardism.

                  1. You jumped at the first negative thing said about the PS4. So what if someone mentioned that the PS4 declined? Stop taking Sony’s losses so personally like a fanboy.

        1. We’re still five to one commander! But we only lost five hundreds after our forces annihilated the half PS4 units! Which it was over 30,000 troops, KIA!

          1. Right. Microsoft and Sony care a lot about that.

Have you ever heard about the exclusivity fees which are paid to 3rd parties to exclude Nintendo consoles from multiplat titles as we talk righ now?

You better rush and get outside the bubble you live.

            1. No, it’s Nintendo’s own damn fault for not pushing more to get 3rd party games, for not marketing their system right, and not selling it to convince companies to develop for it. Oh hey, one Japanese company blames Sony, must be true. The fact that Sony actually pushes money into marketing costs for multiplatform games more than Nintendo which gives companies a greater incentive to support the former over the latter, and that Nintendo either doesn’t care or is a generation behind with some aspects of tech (HD, online) doesn’t matter either, or that Nintendo cares more about pushing their own first party games and not working on getting exclusives or 3rd party support. Instead of their current strategy of “let’s keep fucking up with the WiiU”, maybe Nintendo should actually use of those massive cash reserves to support the console instead of having their heads stuck up their asses. Clearly we all have our bubbles we’re living in.

                1. Keep putting false words in my mouth – I didn’t fucking say that. Obviously a company may think what they’re doing is right even if it might actually not be. One can look at the situation and say that they should do something better or do it differently, but that doesn’t mean that Nintendo is saying to themselves, “gee, how can we NOT sell a lot of consoles?” It just means that they think what they’re doing is (or has been, since they’ve had to acknowledge their failing strategy with the WiiU recently) working well. In general no company tries to sabotage itself, but how they run the company can be seen as being, for lack of a better term, bad.

                    1. You’re now taking an exaggerated statement I made out of context – the “let’s keep fucking up with the WiiU” applies to my interpretation of the strategy itself, not that Nintendo is actually saying that – and to actually BELIEVE that I was being literal in Nintendo actually saying that speaks more about your naivete and lack of understanding than anything else.

              1. sasori obinna onuorah

nintendrones will keep buying nintendo barebone games. nintendo doesnt even put effort in there games.

      1. And then a Sony fan comes to a Nintendo site to criticize a Nintendo fan statement…. this is just…. lame.

      2. Oh, Sony said that Nintendo is necessary for the industry!

        Cool, man!

        You believe that!

Sony is just agonizingly bleeding, dude. Nintendo is hiring and expanding, raising new buildings., etc. Nintendo business is by far more sustainable than Microsoft and Sony together. If you are just unable to understand that, just move and go play Titanfall or Killzone..

        1. Uh, yeah, because what Sony says makes sense. Nintendo helps draw in new gamers and keeps them playing. Just because Sony said that doesn’t take away from the relevance of it or diminish its importance.
You people are fucking unbelievable in your hatred of anything other than Nintendo.

          1. Right. Shuhei Yoshida is always downplaying Nintendo moves by saying that Nintendo is for newcomers, or for his daughters, or whoever, and Sony for hardcores. He’s been stressing that a lot, in a attempt to make people believe Nintendo consoles are kiddy ones.

Yeah, those statements make sense, specially for Sony’s shadowy interests.

            1. Uh, he said that Nintendo has a strength in catering to young gamers, and they have games that appeal to more than just the “hardcore”, so they help bring in new gamers in general. When Nintendo is good at bringing in new gamers, including young gamers, they eventually just become “gamers” and support games and consoles in general. Not to mention that to say that PS4 is “strictly for hardcore people” and Nintendo as being “only for kiddies” is silly in both cases due to the variety and amount of games on both consoles, as well as the scope of who, in terms of age, actually plays them.

          2. “You people are fucking unbelievable in your hatred of anything other than Nintendo.”

Wow, contradicting argument. If he’s a such a fanboy, he wouldn’t have mentioned Sony saying the industry needs Nintendo, why because fanboys wouldn’t care and act all bullshit arrogance. You on the other hand have been just being a try-hard degrading Nintendo’s reputation on here, no praise, no nothing, just insults to the so-called “fanboys” and the company itself. If you want to sound more convincing, maybe you should’ve made your earlier around this site sound less of a biased agenda.

            1. No, I’m able to actually criticize Nintendo for what they’re doing instead of blindly following them and standing up for their impractical strategies which are not helping. I actually don’t even have any Sony or Microsoft consoles, and have supported Nintendo for the past 15 years. It doesn’t mean that I’m going to be one of the “yes men” and accept what they’re doing. I have every console they’ve released since I first got my Game Boy Color except for the WiiU, solely because it isn’t appealing to me right now and I don’t think they’re going in the right direction.
Also, when he mentioned Sony needing Nintendo, he was being sarcastic about it. Durp.

                1. Ok, I’ll buy a WiiU and then not play it because there are no games on it that I want yet.

Sounds good, since I can’t ascertain how much I’d like it from demos at the game store, watching gameplay videos, and in general reading up on any relevant info for it online.

                  1. If the Wii U doesn’t have the games you want as of today, what kind of games do you want it to have?

The Wii U has more than 270 games of of today. If none of them satisfies your taste, man… Just forget about it.

You’re the case Reggie addressed in the past: no matter what Nintendo does, always there will a percentage of gamers who will keep complaining about it, because they are never satisfied.

                    1. I enjoy rpgs and Zelda above others, but my tastes can be eclectic. I didn’t buy a 3DS until Pokemon and Link Between Worlds came out. My tastes are my own and for me there isn’t enough to justify a WiiU at this time. I’m not a fan of the gamepad either.
Regardless of how I feel about the variety of games, I’m not alone in my reasoning…..and as for Reggie’s comment, there are people that won’t be satisfied with any console – or satisfied for a short period of time. For the cost of the console and the number of games I probably would have gotten, it didn’t justify the purchase for me, and the number of games for a console isn’t always the best way to sell something either. Quantity does not equate to quality – that isn’t to say there aren’t quality games on the WiiU…just not quality games I want to play, or that don’t convince me enough to pay that much for the experience.

                    2. Fair enough.

Thanks for spending your time replying me. I’m talking seriously: I got what you meant.

I’m sorry you’re not keen to purchase one, and I hope when you do it, you think “dang, I should have done that before!”.

              1. “Also, when he mentioned Sony needing Nintendo, he was being sarcastic about it. Durp.”

                You MUST be a genius!
                That’s sarcasm in text talk.
Also I think you being sarcastic too, because you added “Durp” at the end of you argument, so everything he did say is techincally true.

“No, I’m able to actually criticize Nintendo for what they’re doing instead of blindly following them and standing up for their impractical strategies which are not helping.”
Yet, no criticism for Sony or Microsoft to make yourself still sound less of a fanboy and to show your more of neutral bystander? Actions speak louder than your text. I criticize Sony and Mircosoft a lot, but I give my two shits about Nintendo, but retarded fanboyism of others force me to only criticize Sony and Mircosoft because fanboys are making so much of a big deal of it.

                1. Uh, wow, this is a clusterfuck of epic proportions. You stated, “If he’s a such a fanboy, he wouldn’t have mentioned Sony saying the industry needs Nintendo, why because fanboys wouldn’t care and act all bullshit arrogance.”, implying that you obviously didn’t get that he was being sarcastic….unless you really just don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about and are trying to backtrack in order to make yourself not look like a complete idiot. I don’t even know anymore what point you’re trying to make with this whole sarcasm shit or the original statement. I said that Sony has stated that Nintendo is needed for the gaming industry. He repeated it in a sarcastic tone. You then said that because he said it, he’s not such a fanboy, implying that you completely missed his sarcasm. Is there something I’m missing here?
Also, since this is a Nintendo website and people like to blindly suck off Nintendo, and since people here already shit all over Sony and Microsoft, I find it appropriate to actually criticize Nintendo to provide a counter. If you want to start criticizing PS4 and Xbone we can certainly do that, since they’re obviously not without their faults either, but in the grand scheme of the conversation why would I start deviating and go off on Xbone?

        1. Xbone better and Wii U?
          LMFAO!
Gimmick One is nothing but a gimmick that its trying to be but it can’t!
          lollololololollol

    2. No, PS4’s decline is NOT good, especially for Nintendo’s business.
It’s proof that Japan’s game console market (Nintendo’s main source of cashflow) has shrunk and may continue to shrink.

And if 30k-ish are the what 3DS and Vita are doing, it means the smartphones are or have really taken over.

      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

        I have suggested a Nintendo/Sonyan alliance in the past…

At least temporary to destroy the Xbot menace and to hold off the Phone invasion…

      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

If it’s not, High Command needs to be making an entirely new weaponry to replace the Wii U after the release of this year’s games…

        1. Does new weaponry mean new console? If it does i don’t agree, they need to ride the Wii U out this generation. Just like every other Nintendo console they should announce the next generation when Wii U is at least 5 years old.

          1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

But if Mario Kart8 and Smash wouldn’t save it, the Wii U would have lost its purpose for good…

      2. Hopefully. If Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros can’t do it, then there really is nothing else that can be done…. I would say a HD Pokemon RPG, but we already know Nintendo’s illogical stance on that. *sigh*

        1. I can imagine Nintendo dumping the Gamepad and sell the Wii U with a game or two for about 200$ if Smash and Kart somehow fail, I’m almost certain Nintendo has a last resort before pulling the Wii U’s plug.

          1. What exactly would that even achieve? That would make Nimtendo look like joke and practically seem as if they’ve copied Sega, with what they did with Dreamcast in all.

The blame is the developers not wanting to do anything for it. If they actually bothered to do anything for it then I reckon the console wouldn’t in this crisi right now. And pulling the plug will do nothing but damage Nintendo reputation. And they have been pretty good at keep ingot hat for all the years they’ve been in the games industry.

If Nintendo go, then you might as well say goodbye to the video games industry.

            1. Relax and read my comment again, I’m not saying they should pull the plug, i’m saying if Smash and Kart don’t move units Nintendo will do as much as they can to improve sales, that means removing the GamePad and giving it a price drop. Even if Nintendo did pull the plug, Nintendo wouldn’t go… they would make another console after a couple years of discontinuing Wii U. Nintendo would never do what Sega did.

            1. Not fully, they only own 53% of game freak. Game freak gives nintendo certain rights, but its always game freak making the rpgs. Game freak tried a home rpg twice but it was not loved by all. I liked them though, but I wouldn’t mind a rpg, but mmo no god damn way

  1. All of the figures this week are less than impressive. Even though the Vita got a boost, it’s half of last year’s sales at this time. It’s finally no longer doing a YoY growth.

The 3DS barely outselling the Vita this week is also strange. It usually pulls amazing numbers. The PS4 on its continual decline isn’t especially encouraging either – although we still don’t know if there are any supply issues.

Japan needs an injection. Their side of the gaming industry can’t rest solely on PC, mobile, and 3DS. ;/

    1. That was just circumstantial. 3ds had no new game launched that week while Vita had Soul Sacrifice. This is the only reason Vita sold well that week. Next week things will come back to normal again

        1. It’s normal to care if the product you purchased is selling well, the better it sells the more games and company support it will have.

          1. When it becomes most part of your life as a gamer, I couldn’t be more pointless.

The Cube sold around 22 mil units, and it’s me most impressive Nintendo console as of today.

Let’s the sales numbers to businessmen, and let’s care about more about sitting on the couch, turning the Wii U on and playing it.

  2. The way the Wii u is selling now is about 1.8 million (worldwide) a year. I don’t think the Wii u can be saved Mario kart wont be enough. The system will only sell to Nintendo fans because Nintendo games don’t have wide appeal. The Gamecube sold 22 million and that had all the games that people say will save the Wii u. It’s sad but Nintendo home consoles are dead the fact they have to do all of this while the PS4 sold 6 million in 4 months. Nintendo really are becoming irrelevant.

      1. 3DS sales continue to drop, and Nintendo has also lowered their sales projections for it dramatically just like the WiiU. While it’s still doing well, Nintendo can’t survive on that alone.

  3. Mk8 won’t do anything. Dependency on MK8 only proves how ass the WiiU is. I play CODghosts on my WiiU almost everyday. Not because I’m a fan of COD but because WiiU has a pathetic library of games.

        1. Nah, a troll would stop at this point because we already know he was trolling, because when trolling, your suppose to piss of people and not get found out that your trolling, if you do, you failed and made yourself look like a dumbs. He thinks what he is doing is trolling, but doesn’t know what trolling truly is.

  4. Look guys, 7-8k isn’t that bad. We’re still doing better than the SNES thanks to upshifts in currency. While we may not pass the Xbox One or the PS4 in the long run, we can give them a good fight. Games are what matters….not sales. At least, that’s what I try to tell myself when I see these lists. I haven’t played on my Wii U since Lost World, but I am planning on getting at least 10 more games for it someday.

In regards to the final estimates, I think that PS4 will sell 80 million units, Xbox One will sell 60 million and we’ll give Wii U 40 million. That’s not bad considering that we’re talking about millions. Hopefully Nintendo brings back the Gamecube 2 and then things can really get started…

    1. In how many years do you expect the WiiU to be able to actually sell an additional 34 million units? Unless something drastic occurs and they get an influx of amazing games, I seriously doubt they’ll break 20 million in this generation.

      1. Well, this gen should last for another 5-7 years I’m guessing. The units will start to sell soon. I would bring up the usual MK8 and Smash bros excus-reason, but that’s been done before. Instead, I will remind you that LoZ and Watchdogs are coming out. Both of them are system sellers, although I recommend getting Watchdogs on PS4 or PS3

    2. sasori obinna onuorah

nintendo is not even fighting in the console war. am happy wii u is even failing. as a wii u myself am pissed at how nintendo designed this to be wii with hd graphics. i will never want nintendo get away this. they treated wii u like shit.

It’s a babysitting tool, and it will drop off the map in software shortly after the next gen TRUE HD consoles surface.

Always happens, this gen won’t be an exception.

    1. Sure. You make a positive statement on anything, and a negative one as well.

Later on, you come up with one or another, and say “woohoo, I was right, I was right!”.

Why don’t you grow up? It’s more than time to shave your face.

    1. Came true!? About what? You finding out your birth certificate was an apology letter from the condom factory!?
      LMFAO!

  6. I wish Nintendo would just cut the throat of the Wii U and try again.

Release a console that is more powerful than the PS4

  7. The people in this comment section are lonely basement dwellers or should i say the fan boys. Stop defending all of nintendo’s fails, they have been a huge fail and you can look at the many pieces of factual evidence if you can handle having your only love nintendo hurt. Everybody always wonders why the nintendo fan base gets treated like shit…… its because you guys are a joke. Stop accepting everything.

Now i have a unfinished battle with waterzeama but he wont show up!! FUCK YOU WATERZEAMA!! You know your weak against grass you bastard!

      1. AHHHH!! Finally you show up. HAHAHAH!! Time to die fireass!! OHHHH nooooo now grasszeama and the rest will find me!

  8. HEY GRASSZEAMA! We also had a battle! Stop running away pussy you hate on waterzeama when you have ran away just as much if not more! Its time to kill you grasshole!

      1. WHERE! It really doesn’t ook like anything……. where did he go. im going to poison STING you! its really going to ZING! HA i really love these lame puns!

  9. sasori obinna onuorah

man these nintendo fanboys just keep using 3ds sales to defend nintendo ass. xbox one is better than wii u and 3ds.

        1. sasori obinna onuorah

Because I’m too stupid realize that Nintendo has the greatest franchises ever and call them reheashes even though I watch an anime full of fillers and rehashed cash-ins.

    1. The xbone? With the kinect? Hahaha go play COD kid since it’s so HARDCORE!!! Please don’t breed. One parasite like you is enough in this world.

      1. They’re already are enough, we just don’t need another one trying so hard to be the biggest one.

  10. Nintendo has already blown too much money catering the Wii U to just pull the plug on it people. Can we at least wait for SSB and MK8 and LoZ to release first?
