Super Smash Bros. 3DS Screenshot Shows Comparison Between Character Outlines

smash_bros_3ds_outlinesThe brawler’s director Masahiro Sakurai is back for another update with the 3DS version for Super Smash Bros. Today, Sakurai has posted a comparison image, showing fans exactly how the black outline works to greater effect within the handheld edition. But if you’re not a fan of the black outlines, the director has confirmed that it can be customisable. A minute but crucial update. Here’s what Sakurai said on Miiverse:

“Here’s a comparison of characters with and without their outlines on the 3DS version. They also give off a different impression in 3D, so customize the look however you like.”

  1. Outlines look really important. Look how much Link blends in with the background. Anyone who still thinks they’ll turn off the outlines better be sure not to complain about not being able to see anything.

  2. “Here’s a comparison of characters with and without their outlines on the 3DS version. They also give off a different impression in 3D, so customize the look however you like.” Good god…. i cant be more excited for a video game. i may buy the system ONLY for this…

    1. i would highly recomend mario 3D, Donkey kong TF, zombie U, rayman legends, darksiders2, and if your a fan ; keep in mind that their is a new mario kart, zelda, and xeno on the way.
also retro has hinted at a new metriod game.

personaly i think that nintendo made it clear that they know that they need more then games for kids, so im excited for E3

    2. So, Kart 7, 3D Land, A Link Between Worlds, Awakening, Dark Moon, New Leaf, X and Y, Ocarina 3D, Bravely Default, Pushmo, Steam World Dig, etc. etc. would just be gravy then? :D

  3. I Amos disinterested by the 3ds version of this game. I really don’t think it’ll translate to handheld very well. You need the bigger screen and home consoles are better for local multiplayer.

  4. I think they added the outline because it works well – but were concious that some would criticise it so took steps to make sure they had no reason to be criticised.
“Oh you think the outline is too ‘cartoony’ – well just turn it off.”

  5. I think it’s good to have a choice between outline or no outline. That way, everyone can be happy.

  6. I prefer them without the outline but I agree some of the stages look a bit cluttered and they may get confusing.
Though I don’t really care, I’m getting the Wii U version anyway.

    1. Well, it’d the first time the made a smash bros game on a hand held. It doesn’t look THAT bad to be honest.

    2. Lol, because the 3DS can handle HD like the Wii U, right? >.>

It looks way better than a bunch of 3DS games, the thing is that if you compare it to the Wii U version, then you’re stupid.

  7. If I pick it up on 3DS (definitely getting it on Wii U) I’d have to try both out. I feel like with the 3D effect on it may look different. They both look good though, they kinda give off a different look.

  8. i was expecting new cool moves for all characters cause im getting bored with the same moves over and over again
but i guess is going to be same old brawl only with no tripping included
i mean come on at least they should make a new move set for toon link why copy links
