Tecmo Koei Aims To Sell Over One Million Copies Of Hyrule Warriors

Tecmo Koei president Yoichi Erikawa has revealed that his company is aiming to sell more than one million copies of Hyrule Warriors. The upcoming Wii U action title, which is being developed in collaboration with Nintendo, is scheduled to make its debut this summer in Japan. Set in the vast land of Hyrule, the game contains elements inspired by Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors series.

“In gaming, this is a first-time collaboration,” said Erikawa. “As a new entry in the Warriors series, we plan to release the game Hyrule Warriors in collaboration with Nintendo in the summer of this year. In addition to our Warriors series fan base, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda is also a very popular series with a large fan base, and I think it will become a great new market. Because of The Legend of Zelda’s legion of fans overseas, we are aiming to sell more than one million copies worldwide.”

          1. Then Hyrule Warriors will look better than that… In ITS ART STYLE, A GAME DOESNT HAVE TO LOOK REALISTIC TO LOOK AMAZING!

          2. hahahahaha, of course it has better graphics than any previous zelda title moron, but you’re telling it like if you know about the graphical style of the zelda u, i’m pretty sure that the zelda u will kick asses.

    1. It needs to be really good before I buy it. I hear Dynasty Warriors games get old, real fast. They can be quite boring and repetitive. E3 will give us a better glimpse of how it’s shaping up. I’m sure Nintendo won’t let Koei turf out crap.

      1. It doesn’t. The first time I played Dynasty Warriors 2 on PS2, I pulled an all nighter. Repetitive? I played the same missions literally about 15 times. It’s just freaking awesome. But then again, I could be wrong about the NEW ones… 3,4,5,6,7, and SPIN OFFS. Lol. But I heard 8 is great.

        1. DW7 was a big disappointment but i think they fixed all those biggest flaws in DW8. Hopefully they allow us to command other team members with map in the gamepad while playing.

Well if you don’t like hack & slash games that has 50/100/150 or more enemies on the field at one time, I doubt you’ll enjoy it too much even with the Zelda characters. But don’t judge something on what you’ve heard from others. That’s showing a sign of not having much of a mind of your own, aka a sheep, if you just judge a game on what other people think of it; don’t take that the wrong way because I’m not trying to be mean so sorry if it comes off that way.

    2. I agree. The graphics look worse than ps3… I hope it’s been re-tuned since the original footage

      1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

I’m sure it has. Even if it hasn’t & it still looks like a PS2 game, I won’t be bothered because PS2 had some great looking games like Kingdom Hearts 1, KH2, Final Fantasy X-X2, & the God of War games.

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

You should check the Phillipsian made Zelda of Gamelon and then come back…

Any Zelda Spin-Off is a masterpiece compared to that abomination…

    2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

xD Apparently you haven’t seen any of the CD-i Zelda games. Tecmo Koei is leagues ahead of Philips’ shitty console games.

  1. One of those million copies will be bought by me. This game is easily the most interesting Zelda spin-off.

  2. Don’t think they’ll have a problem. As soon as people see a Zelda game on the shelf it will go. And I don’t think we need to be worried about bad reviews due to quality of the game hurting sales. Nintendo will surely have a very close eye on this one.

    1. Yeah Nintendo is pretty careful with their IPs when they give it to third parties. Just look at how awesome Yoshi’s New Island turned out.

        1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

You’d be right, bloodbond3… if Nintendo didn’t learn their lesson from those horrid games. Nowadays, they only loan out their games on the condition that they are involved in the game’s developments.

    1. floppy hoppy and the bullet skillet

Yeah very likely will happen… 3 things need to happen if they want this to succeed… gameplay has to be legit, no skimps and tons of diversity and for zelda fans needs a reason to be part of the lore in some significant way.

  3. the game looks decent but i hope its fun. i’ve never played any of the dynasty games so it’ll be fresh for me

  4. Good luck with that….
I’m buying the game but yeah, if Mario Kart 8 doesn’t push units I doubt they’ll sell over a Million, though if Nintendo fans and people who own the Wii U anyway should buy this game because it looks like fun :)

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

I predict MK8 will move arond 1 million units on its first week across the World…

  5. Yea ima definitely need extra content like Different playable characters/intricate storyline/Bonus DLC/etc. cuz the game by itself isnt looking as appealling as it did when announced, still….

1 Million copies? Thats like, alot.

  6. Well, it better be a fantastic game then. I have my doubts, though :/ Anyway, when they really manage to sell a million copies, there will be no reason for the warriors series to skip Nintendos consoles. Or maybe they will still find an excuse :S

  7. Nintendo is my Blood

I’ll buy it for sure, I love Zelda and this is perfect to experience other game series too

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

      I just hope it’s not a child’s play…

I don’t like games where you can hack n slash your way through with without any effort, it’s boring and a waste of my time…

      1. Well its not ganna be like dark souls where you gotta take every little enemy seriously. Im sure its still tactical despite being more about comboes and point scoring (talking as tho I have any idea of how the game plays).

      2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Oh it won’t be. If you crank up the difficulty to it’s hardest difficulty, even with the hack & slash gameplay & the characters ability to take out 25 people in one strong attack, it will still push you. ESPECIALLY if you get ganged up on by the captains that lead the weaker forces. Even at level 99, you have to be careful & not take the enemy for granted when on the highest difficulty.

  8. If this game will give way to more collaborations, why not. Haven’t touched the series but this one I will buy on release.

  9. Sounds possible. As Yoichi said; this game will not only gather to the Zelda fanbase, but also the Musou fanbase. And the Musou franchise is Japan’s CoD.

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Apparently not. Two highly popular series in Japan in one game. I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t sell well over 1 million copies in just Japan alone.

        1. Nintendo is my Blood

Who didn’t? I reset my Wii 3 times just so I could play it all over again, the minions rush, the duel with Ghirahim and than the battle with the almighty Demise? Pure excellence

          1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Too bad the battle with Demise was dull compared to Ghirahim…

Demise should have had way more attacks and diversity…

            1. Nintendo is my Blood

I suppose the fight with Ghirahim was an “extension” of the fight
after all Ghirahim was just Demise’s sword

            2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

I consider the battle down to Ghirahim, the Ghirahim battle itself, & the Demise battle as one single battle, so I forgive Demise for not having many attacks.

          2. Now I want to play that LOTR caliber battle again. X.x Wish my Wii games didn’t look like shit on my TV. D:

      1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Hah! Thanks for reminding me about the awesome final act of Skyward Sword! With that in mind, Hyrule Warriors is going to be fucking awesome!

  10. why is there still so little information available on this game if it’s supposed to come out this summer

we don’t even have the real title yet…

      1. well yes but there should have been more info available by now anyway

it’s just a couple more months til release and we don’t really know anything about the title

          1. Yeah… Extra special… It’ll probably just be The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors or something like that…

            1. it’s not like its name is my main concern…
“title” is meant as another word for “game” in this context

  11. They said on the cvg podcast that it comes out in July in Japan I think it will be alright let’s just wait and see

  12. If they think they can slap Link in the game and expect me to mindlessly buy it…
    They would be correct.
The game better not suck! In Link we trust!

  13. I want a LOT of Zelda easter eggs throughout this game.
I dont want it to be average DW.
    I want
    Green Link
    Red Link
    Blue Link
    Purple Link (all costumes)
    Multiplayer
    Lots of iconic zelda items
Lots of characters to play as
    Able to ride epona
I want all his side characters to make appearances. (Navi, midna, fi ect .)
Lots of Locations (not just hyrule field)
And i want it all to release in the states :3

  14. They’ll easily sell that,t here’s 6 million Wii U owners plus the few who will buy the console for the game.

  15. It’ll be a day one purchase for me when it comes out overseas, or at least a Christmas present.

  16. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Ugh! This game can’t get here in the United States soon enough! I want it now! Least I’ll have Mario Kart 8 to keep me happy til then if there aren’t any other games to get between Mario Kart 8 & Hyrule Warriors.

  17. So Fire Emblem: Awakening (on of the best games of 2013) sold 750.000 worldwide and this bullshit expects to sell over one million…. Yeah, nope.

    1. You also have to remember that, as much as the Fire Emblem games are excellent, the fanbase overall is far more niche compared to Zelda.

  18. I will gladly be one of the hopeful million that pick up this game. Any chance I get to play as Link kicking ass and taking names is worth the $60 to me.

  23. This product went through three studies to prove its effectiveness as well as safe for use.
In addition, it possesses thermogenic effects that help to raise your
bodys general rate of metabolism. Categorically speaking, Phen375 is definitely an improved synthetic pharmaceutical-standard fat burning and appetite suppressing weight-loss pill.
