Final Fantasy Explorers director Atsushi Hashimoto and project manager Takahiro Abe recently spoke to Famitsu about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game. Hashimoto describes the game as an action RPG Final Fantasy with multiplayer as a possibility, but he’s quick to note that the game is different from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Here’s what they had to say about the game.
“To put it simply, it’s an action RPG Final Fantasy with multiplayer as a possibility,”
“When you think about a Final Fantasy series with multiplayer compatibility, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles comes to mind,”
“However, this game is a different from Crystal Chronicles, as it heavily focuses on multiplayer elements as a multiplayer online-type game that connects through local and internet connectivity.”
“Actually, no, the ability acquisition isn’t really connected to the jobs,”
“I thought that the idea of ‘I want to keep playing as a White Mage, but I must change to Black Mage in order to learn offensive magic’ was a little troublesome for this game.”
“Therefore, you can keep playing as a White Mage and learn Black Mage abilities. This might be a little different from conventional Final Fantasy games, but I felt that this would be a good idea when considering the trends of recent players.”
Sounds like it could be good. I didn’t care for Crystal Chronicles, but I still like Final Fantasy a lot so I will give this one a shot

*facepalm* Oh yes because that so helped the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy into becoming the most acclaimed Final Fantasy games since 6, 7, 8, & 9. This same thing goes for Capcom too when they did this with Resident Evil 5 & Resident Evil 6. The trends of recent players is going to destroy these franchises. Then again, it already has with Resident Evil, unfortunately.
Well, let’s at least wait and see if they implement it in a way that works out better. Maybe this’ll just mean less necessary reclassing when playing, a sort of way to speed things up.
I’m not referring to the job system. I’m fine with that, to be honest. But this constant giving in to recent trends is not helping these franchises. Especially if you try to turn a franchise into another franchise like how Capcom is trying to make Resident Evil into Call of Duty but with monsters as the enemies.
I totally agree about recent FFs. However, Bravely Default allowed such things and it was a great game though. So let’s not kill this game now and just wait to see more before doing so. :)
FF another dead franchise, lets hope Hironobus Sakaguchi will give us real FF like LostOdyssey and LastStory tommorrow.
Btw does anyone else hope that Bandai Namco will make DBZ game for either 3DS or WiiU, would be cool to have more japanese support for WiiU especially.
i do i hope they will make a Dragon ball z game for wii U
I’m all for the idea of this. Hopefully this will come to the West.
Crystal Chronicles with 4 sp’s is way too much fun
They haven’t been following the “traditional” Final Fantasy formula for a good ten years now, why the hell stop now? Inb4 yet another failed FF title.
You need to fix that “is a different from crystal” its is different from crystal
A nod to Mario? It’s a me Mario.
It’s a different from Crystal chronicles.
Hehe
The funny thing is, they did this years ago. On the gameboy, they made an action rpg and called it Final Fantasy Adventure. It was decent for a gameboy (b&w) game. They eventually had a sequel but instead of calling it Final Fantasy Adventure, they changed the name to Secret of Mana – one of the best games the SNES had to offer. Now we’re getting Final Fantasy Explorers – if it’s half as good as Mana, I’m sold.
the “seiken densetsu” serie you mean. I really hope it’s like the secod and third game of this serie! Seiken Densetsu 2 ( Secret of Mana) is still my favorite coop rpg by a million light year. Funny nobody was able to do something similar since then…
I dont really understand this game, is it an MMO? He says multiplayer is possible, then goes on to say the game has heavy multiplayer elements and online multiplayer ideas….?
Final Fantasy XIII is bloody underrated! I had a blast playing through it. The story and battle system was great. I can agree it was a bit too linear for it’s own good, and one or two characters weren’t the best, otherwise I rate it as one of the top Final Fantasies, only behind VII and IX.
You ought to check out 6. :-)
I did. Four times. Love the first half then I always get bored and never finish the game. I think VI is very overrated. It may be one of the best of it’s time, but it does not hold up as well as VII, IX or X, all of which I recently played again and finished with a smile on my face.
Wait, an ACTION RPG hm? I had zero interest in this game up until hearing that.
Awesome! Its actually awesome post, I have got much clear idea regarding from this piece
of writing.
