Best Buy Claims GameCube Adapter For Wii U Works With A Number Of Games

US retailer Best Buy currently have the GameCube adapter up for pre-order. What is interesting is that the retailer claims that the device can be used for games other than Super Smash Bros. Nintendo has yet to announce any other titles that will support the peripheral, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt using it for other games.

“Play your favorite Wii U games with the controller experience you know and love using this GameCube Controller Adapter. Bash your way through new and exciting titles with your GameCube controller, including Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Make it a party by connecting up to four original GameCube or WaveBird controllers, so your friends can get in on the fun. It’s time to unleash your classic moves on a new generation of games.”

  1. Welll……I should hope so! I thought that was a given and it’s the only reason why I have no bought MK8 yet. (Or at least the main reason) I’m planning on going on a Wii U spree once it comes out and I’ll also be getting Wonderful 101 and the Avengers game. I’m seriously hyped for it and I thought that it would be compatible with any game that is compatible with the All Pro controller. That’s what I thought I had heard anyway

      1. Personally, I’ve still got my big Gamecube collection at the ready so I likely wouldn’t be using it, but I’m definitely glad that everyone could finally start to experience some of those games again. I’m positive that Nintendo will officially announce it at some point this year

          1. I wonder if they mean you can use it with original Wii games that had GameCube controller suppport via Wii mode such as Brawl.

        1. They already announced GCN games, but they said they would add at least a few popular ones. (Probably Luigi’s Mansion, Sunshine, Metroid, Etc.)
I am personally much more excited for N64 games than GCN games, but that’s just me…

      1. Well, that is a good point, that deal is a really good one! Still, I just have so many games on my plate as it is. A free game sounds great, but I’m sure that I’ll be able to snag the games at a reduced price by then to help it even out. Thanks for the tip tho =)

    1. if you have the money maybe you should just get mario kart 8 now for you can get your free digital game before the month ends if you care about those games. i picked up 101 at toys r us for less than $20! the game is very good

  2. All I need for it to do is work with Wii and VC games that use it and I’ll be ok. Also, instead of this adaptor, Nintendo should’ve just made these new GC controllers wireless with a USB port on the front so it can be plugged into the console and charge and be used as a regular controller. Is that too much to ask for? Lack of rumble feature is a big reason why I dislike the Classic Controller Pro…

    1. They well be coming out with a new one that attaches to the Wii remote, and has updated buttons for home 🏠 button and such. The adapter well allow for the use of GameCube controllers that some customers may still own

    2. It’s not too much to ask for a wireless version, BUT the pro Smash players that this is designed for in the first place would never play with a wireless controller. This is for serious Smash player first and foremost.

As long as I can play my N64?SNES VC titles with it (and I don’t care about Gamecube VC, I’d rather have HD remakes), I’m happy

  4. This could mean severs things
    1) GameCube games are coming to VC and well have GameCube controller 🎮 support

    2) other VC games may have support for the controller 🎮

    3) their may be a OS update to allow support for support on games that use the pro controller 🎮

  5. Maybe the new controllers will have ZR and ZL buttons as well. I wish those controllers were wireless, though, and didn’t need an adapter. But it’s nice having an adapter, since I can use the controller I already own!

          1. Yeah, but “those” anonymous users have different colors on their profile images. :/ Which leads me to the assumption that they’ve registered an email for this site and just go under the anononymous name. They’ll be fine. :P

  6. They already said the Amiibo figures would work with existing games like MK8. It stands to reason they could update existing games to work with this adapter as well.

  7. gamecube games are coming to the wiiu it does not have to be confirmed it is still a fact even without confirmation

  8. you dont need a nintendo statement confirming that gamecube games are coming to the wiiu when they are it is not like the retailers like game dont have them in the gamestores

  9. game knows that gamecube games are coming to the eshop and so does gamestop and game stores and includes nintendo of america

  10. I’m still pissed that I need to buy the adapter. Would it really have killed them to put gamecube controller ports on the console like they did with the wii?

    1. Why do you expect them to support the controllers of two generations ago when Sony and Microsoft don’t even support their last generation controllers or any accessory for their consoles? It’s freaking awesome they do that and even now support those controllers again even tough it’s not for every game. And inserting them into the Wii U would result in barely someone using them and adding more connections etc that can break and make the production process harder.

  11. gamecube games are coming to the wiiu Eshop and retailers know about it and so does nintendo of germany Satoru shibarta

  13. “Bash your way through new and exciting titles with your GameCube controller, including Super Smash Bros. Brawl. ”

    including Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

    BRAWL…?

Am I the only one to notice this?

  14. I dont think it will work well with some Wii U games like COD, Assassins Creed, or Resident Evil mainly because the Pro controller has an additional sholder button and L3 or R3.

  15. If i am not mistaken, gamecube controllers have analog triggers correct? That is a good one for racing games. Poor wii u pro controller.

  16. Crap! When I first read this post, I thought it was about an adaptor that allowed Gamecube games to play on Wii U. I should have figured that was too good to be true.

  17. I wonder if the Project Cars delay has anything to do with this. Now that GCN controllers can be used and the triggers are pressure sensitive, it would make it perfect for a racing game like that to take advantage of the feature

  18. I can’t imagine they’d create a whole new device that only worked for one game. I expect a fair few titles will support it, but we shouldn’t expect everything to.

  19. But will the Wii U have any way to read the pressure sensitive input from the gamecube shoulder buttons? Or will it read it just like a regular button press, that’s what I wonder.
