You may have seen a surprise announcement yesterday relating to Sega’s iconic Wonder Boy series. The news was announced by FDG Entertainment who have stated that they’re working with The Game Atelier to create Monster Boy And The Wizard Of Booze for a number of platforms. The game will be produced by Ryuichi Nishizawa who is renowned for his work with the original Wonder Boy. The Kickstarter page for the game says Monster Boy will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PC and other formats. Hopefully these undisclosed formats include Wii U. Guess we will have to see how successful the Kickstarter is.
- The game has a new name: Monster Boy
- Monster Boy will be an all-new adventure and as we closely work together with Ryuichi Nishizawa (creator of the original Monster World) it can be considered as an official part of the series. Since the trademark is owned by SEGA we had to pick a different name
- No more hamsters but a new hero with a story matching with the Monster World universe
- Tons of new hand-drawn graphics and an improved art style
- Two new transformations replacing the bear and the hamster
- While the game still has a huge open-world, some of the environments have changed for fitting more with the Monster World universeAs a Flying Hamster II backer you’ll still get your free copy of Monster World when it will be released (please refer to KS Update #12 for more information)
- Michiru Yamane is still supporting this project and currently works on several amazing tracks
- The gameplay remains exactly like what we initially planned
- Our hard-working team, more dedicated to this project than ever!

Nintendo Life contacted FDG’s Thomas Kern re this matter:
“It’s a pretty exciting day as we didn’t expect such an overwhelming positive response from the Internet. After all, there hasn’t been any news about the series for years.
“We love the Wii U but for the moment I can’t confirm anything. It’s definitely considered as we believe Nintendo fans would appreciate the game.”

I hope everyone understands that ‘Pewdiepie’ fellow here is just a fake looking to stir up trouble. The real one actually posted criticism regarding Nintendo’s current program but he will continue to play Nintendo games (channel or not) but urges them to change it. I agree as well.
I grew up with SEGA so I’ll check it out.
I think I’m psychic, because I’m getting a premonition. I see a future headline……….it says something about…… “all consoles BUT Wii U”.
Since Sega has basically given up on making console games, they should consider selling off all their abandoned IPs. I would love to see another Alex Kidd or Streets of Rage. I’m sure there are a lot of capable indie devs who would launch a Kickstarter for these.
