The Mario Party Series Has Sold Over 39.6 Million Copies Worldwide

We always knew that the Mario Party series was popular with consumers, but just how popular has it been? Well, Nintendo has confirmed via it’s Mario Party site that the series has sold over 39.6 million copies worldwide as of December 2014. That’s a lot of copies of Mario Party. The next entry in the series Mario Party 10 for Wii U is due for release on March 20th in the US and Europe.

Thanks, King

      1. Good point. Mario Party 10 releases in a month, so people should hold off until that game releases, before saying that ALL of the New Mario Party games are bad…

    1. I hate to agree with such a negative statement towards my favorite party game, but I agree. That car crap ruined Mario Party 9.

        GTA shall vanish from importance like Doom and Duke Nukem one day, but Nintendo software shall still sell well. It is a guarantee. You best take notes now for Nintendo IPs, the main ones are ever green.

        F=ma.

        1. I think Doom is still important. It was a pioneer of the FPS genre and deserves respect. Doom was one of my favorite games growing up. I don’t play FPS anymore, but a new Doom game would be my only exception. Nintendo did alot for the gaming world, more than any other company. But they did not single handily create and shape the gaming world. They had help with amazing games like Doom.

        1. Yeah, not counting 10, there like 9 console and 3 handheld Mario Partys. But in fairness to simon coleman, that’s 12 since 1998. That’s a lot in 16 years(13 in 17 years if you count Mario Party 10.) However, that’s not as big of a frequency compared to some other games…

      1. Nah, you’re just a blind sheep. I’m honestly quite impressed at how you manage to damage control literally every remotely negative Nintendk comment

      1. Who me??? I love the one Mario Party game that I’ve played. I was referencing Wario’s most famous line in the first 2 Mario Party games. In refering to his username-WarioPaint…

    1. Why so surprised???Shock horror, a Nintendo franchise has done well for itself. I mean, it’s not like they own the 2 biggest selling franchises in Video Game history with Mario and Pokemon. And yes, that IS exactly what WTF stands for, thank you for sharing that knowledge with everybody…

  1. The series went to shit after Mario Party 5. The games were fun but they turned all of the courses into gimmick boards that were boring. Seriously those race to the finish boards are stupid…

    1. I’ve only played Mario Party 4 out of all the Mario Party games, does that make me a bad person for only playing 1 Mario Party game???

          1. 7 and 6 was the most unique imo, and I’ve played 4, 8, DS, and IT as well. I liked 7, because each board was unique and had a different objective. For example in the Egyptian board you each started with 5 stars and earned coins to rent chain chomps to buy and run over your opponents, taking their stars. Not to mention the games and the board interaction spaces were fun, and could really changed the game. And there are 8-player boards, and while the games were brutal in some eyes, they were still really entertaining. Buying “souvenirs” also gave you a reason to keep playing. 6 was also really fun too, and the single player mode was really enjoyable. 6 had better minigames than 7 in my opinion such as the dusting minigame. The night and day system for the boards changed up event spaces and board rules, so you had two different experiences. . The night and day system also changed the appearance of minigames, and even the rules altogether at times! The pop-up book pages, which you bought using points you’ve earned from minigames and completing Party mode, were also really humorous. The mic minigames were the gimmick of this Mario Party, but you can use normal controls too. There’s no crazy story in 6 either so you’re just partying to your hearts content. Overall I recommend 6 for best all around, and 7 for it’s uniqueness. And unlike some MPs the CPUs can actually be challenging. I still loved 4 for it’s boards though!

    2. Agreed, Mario Party 5 was the last great Mario Party, and I still play it weekly to this day. Pirate level is my favorite :)

      1. 400,000 copies in at least 3 years shouldn’t be too hard for any company, so it shouldn’t be too hard for Nintendo. The thing is, advertising frequency is Nintendo’s weakest point. If they were actually consistently advertising the Wii U, then it would be doing quite a bit better for itself. This is coming from a proud Wii U owner…

    1. Your acting like such a fanboy.(Well on this occasion. Even though you like to remain Anonymous, so I don’t know how many different people commenting overall as Anonymous.) I dont know about the others, but I stay neutral. I try not to offend Nintendo and Non Nintendo fans. I like to state facts. All Nintendo need to do is to sell 400,000 Mario Party 10 games in it’s lifetime, to reach 40 million. Plus, you are going off of only one article, not every single article. It’s almost March 2015, longer than 1 day, so try going onto every single article on this site in 2015, before saying who’s a ‘sheep.’ Alright???
      I feel like my words will be falling on blind eyes. So I should stop wasting my time, because lets be honest, your still going to take this as a fanboy ‘Sheep’ comment…

    2. Also, a ‘Sheep’ in this context, for me at least, would be someone that can’t hear a single thing, no matter how small it is, spoken against Nintendo. So even then, I don’t count as a ‘Sheep,’ even if you’re basing it off of 1 or 2 articles. Username-Shuhei Yoshida can testify to that. If he can remember the conversion that we had in the comments of a sales article months ago, but I don’t blame him if he doesn’t…

    This is great, I a Nintendo lover does not like Mario party. I shall not even want it to grace my consoles period!

    F=ma.

  4. The Mario Party series would become super fun again if Nintendo would just stop with the luck garbage. Make skill count. I want to win by skill, not by luck. I NEED THAT GLOATING SATISFACTION!

  5. I’m done with Mario Party until they go back to what it was before. Collecting coins and stars and no stupid cars or other things. Mario Party has gotten worse. Mario Party 9 is the only game in the series i’ve traded back to gamestop along with the one for 3ds. Mario Party 2 is still my favorite.

  6. @ Dman i agree with your post entirely except my favorite mario party is mp6 i recommend mp 1-8 and mario party ds i really hope mp10 is skilled based and not luck based like mp9 and island tour are
