Toys R Us Requiring Credit Card Application To Preorder Greninja Amiibo?

Due to the popular demand of Greninja amiibo pre-orders online at Toys R Us, they organised an in-store pre-order event ahead of the amiibo release on May 29th. However, it looks like some stores– like Fort Myers, Florida– are taking advantage of the popularity, and allowing early entry to those willing to apply for a credit card. Tsk, tsk. This means that those under age or who already have a credit card are going to miss out on the chance to pre-order amiibo, because they have to wait until the actual event opening time.

It seems the story is different across different stores, some stores handed out pre-order tickets so you still had as much chance of getting your pre-order, you just had to wait longer. But some stores seem to have abandoned the tickets, resulting in an unfair system. Maybe they weren’t quite expecting the avid fans and giant queues, and are still trying to learn what works. But after already messing up the online pre-order by allowing some people to order from midnight and not others, looks like amiibo hunters aren’t very happy with Toys R Us.

  1. I was at that store! (#8710 BTW; please go and complain) As a minor, I couldn’t get Greninja because of this requirement.

        1. What’s wrong with being a man child?? Whats wrong with buying awesome little nintendo characters that you love?

    1. lOl at 0:30 seconds. “Babies r us” perfect description of Nintendo fanboys when they’re out buying Nintendo games and amibos XD

      1. How is “fanboy” even an insult. You fail at trolling because you’re probably 12 and jealous because you don’t have money and your parents are drug addicts and don’t feed you. Fuck off.

    2. Whats so bad about a “man child”? Why do kids have this crazy fascination of becoming an adult too fast? It’s funny, when your a kid you can’t wait to be an adult, and anything “kiddy” is just horrible!

And when your an adult, you hate the real world (work) and want to do nothing but be a kid again! Haha

      1. @ Deepsouth,
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Except, when I was a child, I never wanted to grow up. Now at 37, I STILL don’t want to. Adult life totally SUCKS!
There’s nothing good about it, except for having my own transportation, and being able to go places by myself.

  2. Harsh. He’s a odd character really, I use him sometimes but his control’s are kinda loose.

Oh well tho, probably just an attempt to get people into their company. I used to love Best Buy, but it seems like they’ve shrunk over the years. Now I just go Hastings.

    1. I’ve gotten some great deals from hastings. From dirt cheap games to really cheap consoles. I bought a used PSP go for about $60 from them. Awesome place.

        1. Meh, It has it has flaws but I like that all my games are digital, also I dont have to deal with those horrible UMD’s. Plus its the best of both worlds, Whats better than playing good old PS1/PSP, T/RPG’s and Snes games on it. A 3000 is however better though, i’ll give you that.

  3. I was at the store, #8710. This is true. People behibd me were allowed in because I refused to sign up for a card. And it DID NOT matter if they were approved.

  4. Okay well this works for me in the sense that I’ll apply, get rejected and have my preorder anyway. Jk because I’m sure there’d be some sort of setback I’m not thinking of by doing that no?

      1. Cool, you must have both versions then and got him early. For everyone else, we get access to buy him tomorrow.

  5. Can’t wait to see the fuss when Ninty release ALL of these amiibo characters in card format. Oh the wailing, sweet music to my ears. Yes, that is correct, I do not collect amiibo. Huh, just call me weird.

      1. OP is simply trolling, if anything cards might be the scapegoat Nintendo uses to excuse not making more figurines.

  6. Just an FYI everyone, applying for credit cards, regardless of if you are approved or not, temporarily hurts your credit score. It can usually take anywhere from 6 months to a year for an inquiry to drop off your report.

  7. Went to pre-order one today and the employee who came out said he sold them all last night. Then he corrected himself and said at 7 AM this morning. Toys R Us is incompetent as fuck, so I guess I’m resorting to ebay again. Shitheads.

  8. I was at the Bradenton, FL Store which is the next store north from Ft Meyers. They handed out 10 tickets and then they asked if anyone was wanting to open a store card and that they could go in early to signup for one. Nobody did it but it wouldnt have mattered anyways because the tickets were already handed out when they asked.

  9. Got mine, my store made you choose between one pac man OR one Greninja. Nothing about credit cards though and my store is about 2 hours east of fort Myers.

  10. I want stores and retailers to get a grip on pre-ordering amiibos and combating scalpers, but not like this… This is too extreme.

  11. Here is an idea. Either drop this limited preorder bs and ship 20 to each store or take as many preorders as you can in 24 hours and have the first 20 get theirs the release day and the rest at a later date.

  12. I dont even like Greg the Ninja, but I went to try and preorder him anyway just because of stupid store exclusive. I got there 2 hours ahead of opening and there was already more then 20 people there (I think I was 23) so they ran out of him, but I still ordered Pac (honestly I would have been more pissed if Pac was the store exclusive). There was one really young kid there that should have definitely been in school, I think they shouldn’t have allowed him to preorder one along with his dad also getting one, I know they wouldn’t let any kids under a certain age buy the Golden Mario after 12 at Wal-Mart. Lesson learned I guess, with Gold Mario I was first in line and no one showed up till the last hour, I guess with openings I just will have to get there four hours early instead.

I’m not that pissed though, I will just buy the Japanese version for a little bit more. The only one I really cared about of all the amiibos released thus far I already have payed off (Ness).
