Today we have found out the total retail sales of licensed products worldwide in 2014 for companies such as Disney and The Pokemon Company. As you might expect Disney nabbed the top spot shifting $45.2 Billion in total retail sales of licensed products worldwide. The Pokemon Company didn’t do too badly either as it came 34th with $2 Billion in total retail sales of licensed products worldwide. Here’s all the details you need to know.
Pokémon features a wide array of offerings from video games, the Pokémon trading card game, animation and wide variety of licensed lifestyle products, making it one of the most diverse and beloved entertainment franchises in the world. Highly anticipated Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire launched in November and, with only six weeks of sales, became the best-selling set of video games in 2014, adding to the more than 270 million Pokémon video games sold to-date.
With more than 21.5 billion Pokémon TCG cards shipped globally and nearly 800 episodes currently in its animation library, Pokémon is a long-standing market leader and enjoyed an incredibly strong year at retail in 2014.

If Disney ever acquired Pokemon or made a deal with Nintendo to do merchandise and movies and whatnot…. It would literally be world domination.
Nintendo really should look into partnering with Disney. Disney probably has the most powerful brands in the world (if you average out all of history). And it is one of the most influential and successful.
Disney is an empire while Nintendo is really just a small prosperous kingdom on an island located far away. Disney could help them expand their influence and family friendly attitude at the same time.
Nintendo would never go for that because Disney wants to be in control of their partnerships, just like Nintendo. No way either of them would want to be 2nd in command of any project.
Times change, mentalities change. You can’t say they would “never” go for that. If it means money for both of them, I’m sure they’d bite if an interesting deal was on the table.
You’re an idiot. xo
*Blatant “you’re an idiot” attack*
That’s actually a sign that the person who’s attacking you over the internet is probably a 10 year old who knows jack shit.
Nintendo also said they would never go mobile. Now look whats happening.
Times change mate
Yes becuase disney disbaned Lucas arts and now EA is charge of battle front. Disney just wants the would just want the ip they don’t care for the talent
Disney isn’t a video game developer. That’s why they disbanded their video game studios. They hired well known video game developers to make their games… actually, a SMART thing to do on their part.
Regardless of how you feel about EA. The company is a MASSIVE success who earns actual profits (maybe not every year, but more often than not). The EA brand is growing.
The new Star Wars Battlefront is going to sell. It will be a massive success despite what the reviews say or the gamers say. It will make tons of money and will probably lead to a sequel that will also be a massive success. Disney and EA will profit nicely from this deal and would not have been entirely possible if Disney tried o do this on their own.
Then Way disband it? They then cancel all project they were working on. Disney would most likley send games to work by other companies like EA, or ubisoft. Why as a fan would want these ips in hands of idoits
They disbanded it, because Disney isn’t a video game company (as I said before). They didn’t want to have video game developers on their payroll anymore that were unnecessary. Now, they license their projects out to more well-known video game developers.
Battlefront can get all the negative reviews in the world and get a 4.5/10 by critics and it will STILL sell, because it is a) Star Wars and b) Made by EA.
Battle Front is already getting tons of negive press right now, and most fans of games are not happy. DLC is being work on cutting the content of game ect.
Source?
Are you kiding me?
No you fuckin’ ‘Muricans should keep your filthy sausage fingers off Japanese IPs and stick to what YOU do best.
Because that makes a lot of sense.
Disney is a monopoly. For Disney to control so many different entertainment I.P.’s is technically against the law, and against everything that built this country we live in. (the U.S.). They are only getting away with it because of certain loopholes, and the fact that Disney has paid officials in the U.S. government.. If we allow this trend to continue, a few companies will own everything. Is that the world you want to live in? Where one or two companies literally own everything you can purchase from a store? So let me ask you, do you really want Disney to purchase Nintendo? Thats a horrible idea, just like Disney owning Marvel, just like Disney owning Star Wars… Disney has the rights to so many different things it would blow your mind…
They aren’t a monopoly. There are plenty of entertainment companies out there in television, video games, movies, etc. I don’t know where you got “What Disney is doing is illegal” crap, because they sure as hell are not doing anything illegal.
Just because Disney is the “best” and one of the most lucrative entertainment companies doesn’t make them a monopoly. I’ll tell you what a monopoly is; Comcast is a monopoly in areas where there are NO other options for cable services. You would have to branch out to satellite connection or stick with Comcast from where I’m from. Fios isn’t even an option.
I’m actually kind of annoyed that people are pissed that I mentioned Disney working with Nintendo. It’s like some of on here WANT Nintendo to be trash. If they worked with Disney, it would be INCREDIBLE! We could get quality live action films of Zelda and Metroid, great animated films for Mario, Pokemon (yes, even better than the anime ones we get from Japan), and lesser IP’s like Dylan’s Rolling Western, Kid Icarus, etc. With Disney, all of that becomes possible. Maybe even a Nintendo theme-park in AMERICA, where it would generate massive sales; or even Nintendo-themed television shows on Disney channel or ABC. Nintendo could become a huge house-held name if they partnered with Disney. All Nintendo needs to bring are the products. If you think Nintendo can do this on their own, than you are delusional.
All Nintendo knows how to do is “make” games. They don’t even know how to “sell” them properly. The entire company is run by developers and no sales people, marketers, or anyone who knows how to branch out into other forms of entertainment (except for the Pokemon Company who at least has the Pokemon anime and movies going).
Disney is forming Monoploy. They own alot more then one might think. Not every videogame needs a damn movie. Nintendo as a whole again won’t be around if disney bought them. Nintendo doesn’t need disney to show off there ips, because nintendo has already the most iconic stuff around. Disney and Nintendo might have strong legacy, but they do not mix in terms of style. Hell Mickey Mouse doesn’t do shit any more, not mention Disney does not have a high track record for live action movies. Nintendo has been around a lot longer disney, and still are not going anywhere
Monopolies are much harder to form in the film industry. It’s different from other industries, like technology, because there are always people competing with indie films and whatnot. Disney, at most, would be considered an oligopoly, but an oligopoly has no competitor pricing problems like in a monopoly. Disney would be on the brink of becoming a monopoly if they bought out the likes of Touchstone Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, etc.
If they ever did try to do that, I’m sure the government would step in with a lawsuit and stop them like they did with Microsoft years ago when the company tried was bundling their Internet Explorer with Microsoft Windows. Needless to say, they lost in the end and the Microsoft monopoly was squashed (well, most of it… Microsoft is sill huge).
Not every video game needs a movie. You’re right. But, how many of Nintendo’s franchises have movies? There are some crappy Mario Bros movies and some Pokemon anime movies… that’s it. If Nintendo wants to grow and be a successful entertainment company, they really should expand into film. Disney can help them do that.
I’m NOT saying that Disney needs to buy Nintendo. I’m saying Disney and Nintendo should WORK TOGETHER. Maybe Nintendo can license SOME of their products to Disney for Disney to turn into films, or make a television show, or open up a Nintendo-themed part of their Disney World theme parks.
Mickey Mouse doesn’t do anything anymore, because Disney has become so much more than Mickey Mouse. He’s their mascot character and so he acts as a simple mascot now.
I never said Nintendo were going to die if they don’t work with Disney, but it would be beneficial for them to strike a deal with them. It would be lucrative as well in terms of money!
Nintendo has Mario and Pikachu as the most iconic characters around that are able to compete with Disney characters in terms of popularity. They have Zelda and Donkey Kong and Kirby as lesser known, but also popular characters. But, having Mario and Pikachu doesn’t make Nintendo an empire. It just gives them a goof fighting chance to BECOME an empire.
MARVEL wins AGAIN!!! (Disney’s most powerful brand)
ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY M!!!
Disney and Nintendo would be a great match

What the fuck…wtf?
You shocked, virgin.
…
I guarentee everyone in this forum that either the clothing you are wearing, or furnishings in your home Disney owns. … Everybody pays money to Disney whether they know it or not…
Unless Disney starting making suites or business clothes, in pretty unlikely I do. But I know what you are getting at, I know I own atleast one Disney DVD (Studio Ghibli).
If I had kids, I am sure they would want something Disney.
Back my day, we used wood and rocks as entertainment. Spending billion of dollars on useless scdoodle like this is damn right insane.
And that is what society prefers and this is why we have dumb generation.
You have to spend money to make money. The people who were using “wood and rocks as entertainment” eventually figured this out, because THEY are the ones who grew up to become these rich people spending insane amounts of money.
Heck, Playtonic just made more money in a few hours than most of us on here will EVER make in a lifetime by just setting up a kickstarter online to ask for money to make a video game.
Can someone please clear this up for me. The Pokemon Company is not 100% owned by Nintendo ? or only 50% owned.
Thanks
Pokemon is owned by Game Freak
It’s actually very confusing and I’ve had to look it up multiple times over the years to remind myself.
Basically, the Pokemon IP is owned by three companies: Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures INC. Each company owns 1/3 of the IP. Nintendo ALSO owns the majority of Creatures INC’s stock however. This means that Nintendo owns the majority of the IP and thus… owns Pokemon.
Nintendo does not own Game Freak, which is why Game Freak can make games independent from Nintendo systems.
Some people wonder if there is anyway that Pokemon can be “stolen” from Nintendo based on someone swooping in and buying up a bunch of stock and this is not possible unless Nintendo sells their own stock or sells away Creature’s INC stock. So Pokemon is safely in the hands of Nintendo.
A WHOLE other story is on which company does what. I know Game Freak makes the games, but there are other companies that do the anime, cards, t.v. show, etc. What’s most interesting to know out of THIS part of the information is that NINTENDO DOES NOT MAKE POKEMON GAMES. They don’t even touch them. They just Publish and help distribute them. Game Freak is the mastermind behind all of the main Pokemon games (Red, Blue, Yellow, Sapphire, Ruby, etc, etc, etc).
Keep my Nintendo out of they’re Disney please.
activision publishing is 107! TRhat is what they get for not helping nintendo!

>>>The empire needs to ensla…I mean buy them 100% at once>>>
Only $2 billion, compared to Disney’s $45.2 Billion? Pretty big difference.
