Dragon Quest VIII Announced For Nintendo 3DS In Japan

Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on August 27th, priced at 5,980 yen. The original game released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, and was remade for smartphones in December– and now to the Nintendo 3DS. There are a couple of new features like new party characters– Garda (female thief) and Morrie (from Battle Quest: Monster Battle Road), a brand new scenario and street pass functionality. They’re also planning an orchestral soundtrack performed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony. So, what do you think of this news? A few pre-order bonuses have been revealed, specific to a certain retailer, which are:

  • Square Enix e-Store – “Candy Cane” (weapon for Yangus) – A mysterious spear that will absolutely cause damage and is even effective on metallic monsters.
  • Amazon.co.jp – Healie T-Shirt (armor for everyone) – A mysterious shirt that recovers HP little by little as you walk.
  • Aeon – Healie Cap (helmet for everyone) – A hat that increases your dexterity and maximum HP.
  • Game Tsutaya – Golden Bamboo Spear (weapon for the protagonist) – An expensive spear made of pure gold. If you don’t want it, you can sell it for 5,000 gold.
  • 7-Eleven – Lucky Pendant (accessory for everyone) – A magic pendant that makes it easier to dodge enemy attacks.
  • Yodobashi Camera – Metal Slime Tray (shield for everyone) – A metal tray that slightly defends against magic attacks.

  1. Interesting. My main complaint with the original game were the random encounters, those. Above all else, they should tackle these and improve the game flow that way. Then again, there is barely a chance that this game will even be released in the west.

    1. The nintendo magistrate

they haven’t even given us the 7th or the 10th one and now they are giving us the 8th one ? facepalm

  2. This is the best news to hear after being fired from work. DQ8 is my favourite game of all time and I’m currently replaying it on the PS2, so to hear that it’s coming out on the 3DS in Japan has brightened my day dramatically! :D

    1. I’m pretty sure it’ll make its way over to the West. It really won’t require as much work to bring over from Japan compared to “DQ X” or the 3DS version of DQ 7″. Plus North America and Europe are getting “Dragon Quest Heroes” for PS4 so there’s reason to be optimistic

  3. Wow thank god I didn’t buy it on Google store. Now I can just wait to see if they launch it in the us which is doubtful

  4. These articles are like giant teases. Which, this website is really good at.
I guess I just look at it like, if it isn’t coming where I can play it then who cares. I mean great for Japan and all. But its the same thing that happened with FF explorer’s. Get a bunch of people hyped up, then kill joy.

  5. Best Dragon Quest games:

    1. Dragon Warrior 3
    2. Dragon Warrior 4
    3. Dragon Quest 8
    4. Dragon Warrior
    5. Dragon Warrior 2

    6-10 – Doesn’t matter…(although to be fair I have never played X)
