Nintendo Helped Monolith Soft With Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Online Functionality

In the latest issue of Famitsu, the executive director of Xenoblade Chronicles X, Tetsuya Takahashi, talks about the challenges they faced creating a game which was a lot larger than the original and anything they’ve done before. This was Monolith Soft’s first time working with HD development. In terms of the online elements, he revealed they were planning on using “very basic technology” for functionality, until Nintendo stepped into to assist them. Now, they plan on taking what they learnt from that experience and applying it to their next projects.

Thanks, N-Dub Nation

We were able to implement online elements by cooperating with Nintendo and I’d like to use that feedback in making the next title. Originally we used very basic technology for online elements of this game. As I said in the beginning [of this interview], we decided not to use cutting edge technology. HD and online were new experiences for us and rushing has no use. It’s a bit similar to boxing: if you stand till the end, you will win. We faced the development with this in mind.

  1. “Originally we used very basic technology for online elements of this game. As I said in the beginning [of this interview], we decided not to use cutting edge technology.”

What the heck does that mean?

    1. That Nintendo is behind the times and still doesn’t know how to properly utilize online features to their full potential.

      1. Although I didn’t read the original interview, it seems that, in reality, Nintendo made the online “technology” one step ahead from what it was in the beginning.

What I don’t get is the meaning of “technology” in this context.

        Thanks, though.

      2. Of course they know how. They consciously choose not to incorporate them in thier games… Which might be worse than ignorance honestly..

        1. It is the past tense of learn. Same meaning as learned. They are both legitimately spelt words.

Are you a citizen of the USA by any chance?

          1. Yes i was born in the us. Is cause i don’t. Like this school very much. They don’t. Teach me big words or do testing they dont even have grades :( i wana start over and go to a regular high school like u… I was born with a heart attack and the doctor revived me my mom was happy. And i had back surgery. They say i can’t. “Handle” the regular school cause of these… My life was hard as a kid.

            1. No need for the sarcasm. I simply suggest that in future, you consult a dictionary prior to making a fool of yourself.

  2. I'm a Boss Ass Bitch

Why not use cutting edge technology? Its best if you learn now than to fucking wait. Fucking idiots.

  3. I just hope the online elements are just for something minor and don’t actually go along with the actual game or story at all.

  4. Nintendo is not the company they should be talking to about online functionality. That’s like asking a blind person for cartography help.

  5. Nintendo knows all about online functionality. It’s funny that some of you actually believe Nintendo is just stupid when it comes to techknowledgy and online aspects. Just because they refuse to incorporate certain online functions into thier games doesn’t mean they are ignorant to them..

Nintendo has some of the brightest minds in The gaming industry. It’s an insult to assume they don’t know about overly simplistic online features..

  6. “This was Monolith Soft’s first time working with HD development.”
Nintendo’s not the only ones behind the times.

    And:
“It’s a bit similar to boxing: if you stand till the end, you will win.”
Hue hue hue, dat reference. Though I wonder if they’re just as salty as most of the world.
