Armature Plans To Use Unreal Engine 4 For Bloodstained Wii U Port

Armature Studio, the company that is porting Bloodstained across to Wii U, has revealed on Twitter that they plan to use Unreal Engine 4 for the task. Many people will be surprised at this revelation as we weren’t sure whether the Wii U would support the engine. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn out to be a little bit more than the Wii U can handle as we all saw what happened with Sonic Boom.

  1. Why people does not seem to understand that “Not supported” ≠ “Can not run it”?

The Wii U can run Unreal Engine 4, that the team behind it, Epic Games, do not want to do a proper testing and documentation of the engine for the console just mean Epic Games does not want to do his full jobs.

  2. always has ran u r 4

its just a middleware engine nothing special you get better performance using dedicated code

  3. Wait, so all the jokes about the Wii U not being able to run Unreal Engine 4 is BS?… So why the fuck are developers not using more resources to make their Wii U games look good then?

I know it’s a flexible engine but come on.

    1. An game engine is just a bunh of short cuts for what a sustem can do. The engine may run but a game using said engine may not but it could if used a different engine lol.

      1. The problem is that most developers care more about the graphical aspects of a game rather than the game running well, since honestly developers should focus on optimacing the game rather than the look Of one, i mean the Wii U it is capable of running a powerful engine, freaking EA managed to run a proper Crysis demo ON Wii U using the cry but since most developers nowdays care about the look of the game they don’t focus on things like the Framerate

    2. EVERYTHING bad towards Wii U “not running or supporting this and that” was all bullshit. Frostbite 2/3 was proven to run because Battlefield 3 on Wii U was gonna happen and we all know BF4 isn’t any different than the third game.

  4. And… Who says that the Sonic Boom problems was caused by the Engine? This page is a joke sometimes…. Every Engine is scalable, so thats not a problem at all.

      1. The game was a big steaming pile of dogshit. The problem was those developers not even caring about the game’s quality and only trying to get a quick cash grab from the popularity of the cartoon. Like you said it nothing to do with some engine. That game was a mess from the start

  5. Plan to -> End up complaining about lack of a 3rd usable core.
The hype train has no breaks, jump on as you can before it crashes!

  6. “…During the presentation the day before, another journalist asked if Unreal Engine 4 would work on Nintendo’s Wii U — a console that straddles the line between next-gen and the current one in terms of horsepower. “Hahahaha, no,” he responded, which sent a wave of laughter through the room of journalists. But that’s not technically true, he admitted the next day, walking back his gaffe. “You heard the stupid gaffe yesterday about the Wii U,” he said. “If someone wants to take Unreal Engine 4 and ship a game on Wii U, they can! If they wanna ship an Unreal Engine 4 game on Xbox 360, they could make it happen.” While that game might not look as pretty as it would on a “true” next-gen console, the new engine is scalable to a variety of platforms, including mobile.”

  7. What was used in Sonic Boom was not only NOT Unreal but it was a pure lazy ass game with terrible ass design.

I’m sure Unreal 4 can be pulled off on Wii U as Frostbite 2/3 was also tested and proven to be compatible but EA kept Bullshitting in people’s faces for years.

    1. 1. This is what I’m talking about you make sense and are not whining and complaining while not knowing enough information about something and judging way to early
      2. At least you know the complaining won’t change anything

    2. That wasn’t the Unreal engine it was CryEngine3 (which may not have been used at all) Sonic Boom was developed for high end PC tech at first but then Sega rushed the team to port it to Wii U. If you want to see what a Wii U game really looks like look at Shadow of the Externals

  8. The author on this article shouldn’t have even brought up Sonic Boom. That’s literally the worst possible example of engine compatibility on Wii U. Crytech said themselves that CryEngine 3 was running beautifully on Wii U before EA got asshurt and pulled the plug on Crysis 3.

  9. Unreal Engine 4 can run on various mobile platforms. Of course it can run on Wii U with a few adjustments if the developers want to. That being said, I have already worked with UE4 quite a bit and the source code is complicated as fuck. The people from Armature won’t have an easy time porting the engine to the Wii U. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if, at some point, they just decided to instead code a new engine, anyways.

      1. Depending on the nature of the cat you would be surprised. Also depending on if your cat has access to catnip plants, mine do. I can safely safe my cat would probably enjoy a little bundle of sticks very much so.

    1. Kaptain Krusha K. Roolenstein

You know what I’ll like for you to make? A kompletely original (nothing to do with Smash Bros), no outline only, shirt of Ganondorf.

Oooh ooooh maybe even King K. Rool ;)

  10. The haters and trolls were saying this…….

” The Wii U can’t run Unreal Engine 4. It’s too underpowered and anemic. It can’t even run on last gen engines. ”

Even though Unreal Engine 4 supports the PS Vita, smartphones and tablets. To these haters and trolls I have this to ask you……how does it feel to be exposed by Armature Studios…LMAO

  11. Infinity blade two on IOS runs on the Unreal Engine 4. That game is ancient, and doesn’t even look half as good as a Wii U game. Of course the Wii U can run the engine. What a silly argument.

Fact of the matter is, the Ps4 is just barely more powerful than the Wii U. The difference is so small that only small things like moving bushes, and dynamic raindrops are the only way to visually tell the difference. I honestly believe Bloodbourne could run on the Wii U. It may take a small graphical downgrade, but again so small you have to look for moving bushes to tell..

    1. In which world a eight core CPU, 1.84 TERAFLOPS GPU and 8GB GDDR5 RAM console is just barely more powerful than a tricore Gamecube recicled CPU, 2GB RAM and 200 something fucking gflops GPU console?

  12. it never stood to question.. UE4 is highly scalable and the wii U hardware can render all the required effects

  13. To be fair this whole ordeal is pointless. By now the information is out there and im sure game developers knew before majority of the public could understand that it was possible. I mean, just because all the sudden one studio decides to use it, does that mean any others will for the Wii U? I mean, isn’t this to little to late? I would imagine no one jumping up and going omg! We can put that on Wii U now!

Hell who knows, maybe everyone will say oh crap we forgot it could do that….(that is sarcasm).
