One of the things that most people picked up on with Star Fox Zero was the textures, notably those on the ground. Well, it turns out that the newest entry in the Star Fox franchise began life as a prototype for the original Wii. They created something that they thought could be a Star Fox title and ran with it. Obviously a lot of things have changed notably the fact that this specific Star Fox is developed by Platinum Games and it’s on Nintendo’s latest home console. Here’s what Shigeru Miyamoto had to say.
“This Star Fox started out being based on a prototype we created for the Wii,” he tells us. “We took that prototype and thought about what we could do with it. We came back and just said that this should be a Star Fox game.”

If I’m sorry about anyone at Nintendo right now (besides NLG, but at least they didn’t choose to pick their project), is Miyamoto. I really don’t think the backlash against Star Fox is justified, and he seems to be so dedicated to the project. I’m sure the game will look a lot better by November. Just watch again how Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World and The Wonderful 101 looked when they were first shown.
Mario Kart 8 looked great from the start. 3D World looked a little shakey at the start and it was a maybe for a lot of people, then the 10 things you don’t know about Mario 3D World video released, then all of a sudden, the game looked fantastic, it looked really fun and everybody wanted it.

I’m glad you noticed. Seriously, Nintendo has a history of improving, not downgrading, their games after E3. I’m sure Star Fox will get some love. Maybe we’ll even see more crowded screens with more particle effects if Platinum can help to push the hardware to the limit.

See Super Mario 3D World. Time between E3 and launch-5 months. I suspect that Starfox will have a similar timeframe between first E3 trailer and launch.
I don’t think it looks that bad and as you say it will probably get a graphics boost by release. Pretty upset at no online but I’m probably getting it still if the final product looks good. If it is releasing this holiday that gives us six months tops so lets see what they can do in six months.

However, I agree to some point. I actually think that, out of the three missions we’ve seen, the first one is easily the ugliest. Obviously, the second one (which takes place in space) is the best looking one. The desert planet is good. Nothing too fancy, just good. Personally, I’m hoping for some better textures (not much, though, they want to keep the framerate at 60 on both screens) and better lightning, if possible (wishful thinking at its finest).
Personally, I’m already sold by the gameplay alone, I don’t really care if it doesn’t improve. Star Fox 64 is probably in my top 3 N64 games, and this looks like the successor I’ve been waiting for almost 20 years now.
Yea I can agree with all that especially the waiting for a successor. I love 64 as well and never got into the ones after it. I may give them a chance one day if I come across them cheap enough and feel like it, but I must say I was really happy to see the crew again together and Katt Monroe topped it off.
Me too. I’ve been playing 64 3D for a while now to celebrate. I didn’t think it’d feel so fresh for what’s essentially an almost 1:1 sequel.
Nice I recently played the multiplayer with my friend using his download play and it was pretty nice. I am not really a fan of the cramped controls of the 3DS for my hands, but it was fun and I was winning after the first round even though he owns the game (my old school skills at work :p )
All of the games you mentioned looked very close to the finished product. None of them looked this graphically outdated.

Well ok, but there are a few things to say here.
1. The only change there are the models of those 2. The rest looks pretty similar.
2. How much time passed between those two screenshots, and how much time was left to finish the game?
3. Just stop damage controlling. This is pretty much the only difference this big, and the only thing they had to do here was change these two models. In Star Fox, they’d have to change everything to make it look acceptable.

2. Don’t know how much time past but the completed product is much better then what was first shown and that is the whole point the finsl version of the game is improved
3. This is just like pikmin 3 the game was supposed to be a wii game but was ported over to the wii u and the game looked better each time it was shown and just like xenoblade chronicles X and several other games

But answering your question, I think that particular screenshot is from the 2014 E3 trailer, a year after the intial screenshots were reveled. However, if you take a look at the W101 Nintendo Direct uploaded the 9th of August 2013 (two months after the project was revealed), you can see that what is shown is much closer to the second screenshot than the first. 3. This is the only difference this big, yes, but why do you think it doesn’t count? They changed a lot of things that made W101 look much better, especially concerning lightning, bloom and reflection. Add that to Star Fox, change a couple of textures and it’s golden.

Honestly I think the fans are being unfair about Starfox, I understand the rage towards the Metroid and Animal Crossing games (honestly not so much towards AC since its gonna be a free game and those amiibos will most likely work on a future AC title), but i feel like they delivered with Star Fox Zero. Yes it mau look rough (I honestly think people are over reacting) but that doesn’t mean it will look like that forever, also it is a full fledged out game that stays loyal to the franchise. Technically, the game wasn’t even Starfox when it was on the Wii, so the graphics were most likely newly made for the demo. But it’s obvious that they’ll update them.
But really, I didn’t mind the Demo graphics, I just really hope the game doesn’t be too much like Starfox 64 and instead gives an(at least) relatively fresh experience. I mean, I know it’s a re-imagining, but I’ve been waiting for a completely new Starfox game for too long!
Then again actually, the game could have been converted to a Starfox game during the Wii Gen and later ported to Wii U rather then them picking the engine up from the Wii Gen and putting on Wii U as a Starfox game, so never mind that part.

I don’t know about anyone else out there, but one of the things about the Wii U that I don’t like is the Gamepad. The very driving force that Nintendo used to try marketing this console. And in a sense, I have a feeling that’s exactly why it didn’t do as good as it should have (and why third-party companies abandoned the console). It’s too big and bulky. I HATE playing games with it (though there was a few games where I didn’t mind using it as much). The freakin’ thing makes my hands ache after a while. And I hate having to always look up and down. Makes me dizzy.

well this is suppose for the company about the star fox zero being a prototype for the Wii.
As long as it isn’t a carbon copy of Star Fox 64 with just one or two new stages, I’ll be happy. Right now, it looks great but I can understand if some people are not happy with it’s current look. I hope you aren’t forced to go only to certain planets depending on the path you choose but more that you are able to go to every single location in the N64 game & some new ones. If the game is something like an open world where I can choose the locations I go to before heading to the final location where Andross waits for me, I’ll be a very happy fucking camper! Oh & Krystal should appear on one of the planets with her staff from Star Fox Adventures fighting enemies in a cutscene then rescued by the Star Fox team when she starts getting attacked by enemies in ships or robots. And Krystal can disappear from the game soon after that. In fact, it could be a nice little lead in to a spin off that gives us what Dinosaur Planet was originally supposed to be! It’d be nice to see Tricky again but as Krystal’s partner instead of Fox’s. *sigh* One can dream, right?
