Nintendo is remaining quiet when it comes to their next hardware which is currently codenamed NX. However, Forbes couldn’t resist questioning Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime about the platform. They didn’t get a whole lot of information other than the developers have to have a steadfast idea that will only be possible on a new system before they start developing for it. Reggie made it sound as though the console is quite some way off, but he could simply be saying this so that they don’t cannibalise sales of the Wii U and 3DS.
But doesn’t the fact that the NX has been revealed, that people know it’s coming at some point in the future, make it difficult for you to get the message out there about the current platform?
“Honestly, no. Consumers know that effectively, as we complete one piece of hardware, we always start thinking about the next. So we’re constantly challenging ourselves. What’s new? What’s different? What’s coming down the pipe?”
“The way we approach it is when there’s a game or an approach that we can’t do on the current system, that’s when we begin in earnest to focus on the next system. So what that means is that our developers, a number of them must have certain ideas that will be enabled by the NX. We’re going to have to develop those ideas and get that software ready. And that’s going to drive the timing for when we provide more details on NX.”

If they don’t release next year then ill be very disappointing.
If they released it next year then they would have only a few games, all indications is that 3rd parties have just seen some of the initial spec and ideas. That would give a one year development time. They plan to talk about it at next e3 is some detail, which means at earliest they could shoot for Fall 2016, but they would be short on games, which is the worst thing that could happen for them.
It still sounds like a Fall 2017 thing or at earliest at Spring 2017 thing. There are too many ways they are divided right now, Smart Phone games, 3DS, Wii U, QOL and restructuring the company for the shifts.
To soon. 2017 is the best as the ps4 and Xbox one will both be a year older than in 2016(lol I know dumb but hold on for a second).
To put simply, the Wii U uses 2011(prototype models used 2010 components) technology in their system, while it was released in 2012.
Simpyl give the NX another year, because the prototype model and prototype dev kits are most likely based on x86, I’m not sure how the gpucpu is, RAM wise it may be about 3gigs. That could push the final version to 5 maybe 7gigs of ram and a 30% increase in speed with the CPU/gpu.
That extra year will help, it could either use 2015 tech in a 2017 console or 2014 tech in a 2016 console.
Production is to short for a 2016 tech in 2017 console, unless the NX has RAM and cpu upgrades like rumored.
Did you not see E3? The Wii U has no legs! The NX will launch in Winter of 2016, no question.

Don’t worry, the NX will definitely release next year. The Wii U is a bigger flop than even the Sega Dreamcast. The DC sold at a much faster pace than the Wii U has over the same span of years before Sega pulled the plug on it.
The sega dreamcast was not a flop by any means it was amazing, but it was too advanced for the times.
I loved the Sega Dreamcast man, but it was a commercial flop. So much so that it was Sega’s last console. It was not too advanced. The PS2, GameCube, and Xbox were all more powerful than the DC from a technical standpoint. In any case, the DC had 10 million sold in 2 years, which has taken the Wii U 3 years to achieve.

It was very advanced for its time. It was doing things no other console was, and doing things even consoles today are just now starting to do. And what sense does it make talking about systems that came out a year after, some even two years? Of course they’ll be more advanced and more powerful, they had the Dreamcast to learn from. The PS2, Xbox and Gamecube all came out after the Dreamcast.

The innovations Sega brought to the console market with the Dreamcast, are on a scale that no other company has yet to attain. Not to say others have not innovated in certain areas, but not Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft have been able to come up so many great ideas in such a short span.
It was the first console to introduce online gaming, first console to have anything like Off TV Play, or remote play with the VMU memory unit, the first console to have anything like the Wii U’s gamepad, first console to have a microphone and camera that was used in games, first console with analog triggers, first console with cross platform play with games like Quake III, the first console with an internet browser, that not only let you browse the web, but you could chat with other Dreamcast users and send them emails, first console that could use a mouse and keyboard, and it was the first console to use HD, long before the PS3 and Xbox 360 got into HD gaming.
Even people think consoles being more like a PC is even new, but even the Dreamcast was the first console to ever pave that direction. Just like almost every console now is moving to x86 architecture, the Dreamcast was using similar tech in 1998, as it used a version of Windows CE as an OS and used DirectX, so developers could easier port games from PC or vice versa. The same idea that the PS4 and Xbox One are doing now.
How the hell is that not advanced for its time? When most of that crap is just now recently being used in consoles today. That is the literal definition of being too advanced for its time, there aren’t too many devices in this world that you can honestly say were that far ahead of it’s time in so many aspects.

Hasn’t been 3 years yet, close to 2.5 and no one has heard June numbers yet. Last check was in March was 9.54 sold (not shipped). The Dreamcast not selling well wasn’t the problem, Sega just gave up and folded (literally they are own by American Sammy and the guy who created Sonic formed his own company call Prope, along with other teams being dismantled).
Also Piracy was a big part of the reason the Dreamcast was pulled. It the DS and the regular Wii are super easy to crack.
No one wanted to make games for a system, where there games will be immediately pirated on.

Ok..this is what I think the NX is. There was a report about nintendo using a donut shap for their new console….so I think the donut is the controller/N/ and it holds the game disc allowing you to take it on the go, also with a touchpad screen. The /X/ will be the console wich will be nothing but a stream box used for the N allowing now disc;no parts!!
I wonder if the donut thing won’t be used for the display on the QOL products.
I really hope that the 150$ price tag is fake. I want their console to be more like a traditional console with beefed up specs and third party that isn’t shovelware shit. They can’t afford with forced gimmicks another time..

Yeah Jaded_Drybones and I have been on here for a while. We were on here before 3DS was released and even before Skyward Sword was released. You know I don’t really feel like I’ve been screwed over. I’ve played every single Nintendo console and have owned them all since the N64 and I don’t feel that the Wii U is that bad. I feel that it has problems that need to be fixed (maybe by the NX if it is indeed the Wii U predecessor) but I don’t feel that Nintendo just gave us a peice of crap. The gamepad is fun and inovative, without forcing to many gimmicks (personally I feel it’s best as a party thing like Nintendo land, but works great as a map like in windwaker for single player) and they have released SO many good games I still haven’t bought all the ones I want. And new games are still coming like SF, XCX, Zelda Wii U ect. I will be happy for a new system (having new stuff is always nice) but I’m not like ” holy crap Nintendo, my Wii U just collects dust on a shelf and there is no good games coming. Why did you screw me out of 300$?” I feel as if every penny I’ve spent has been worth it, and I’m still playing several year old games because they are just so fun. Over all I feel the Wii U gets a solid 8 out of 10, it’s not perfect but I’ve had a lot of fun on it. (Sorry for the rant, or well I’m not so sorry;)

Yea that TV remote function is AWESOME! But I pretty much only use it to turn up my Wii U games lol;) I play the thing almost everyday for hours. Splatoon just doesn’t get boring:)

I like your thinking, except I like most Nintendo gimmicks cause they work and are fun so definitely keep those as options, but don’t force it on people of course. I also want options for family friendly stuff, I have a lot of kids around when I play so I don’t want to harm them (plus some stuff I don’t want to see either.) Don’t make every game E10+ but don’t make to many games I can’t go into the options and lower from M down to teen.
I’m not sure how much the Gamepad itself costs,but I’m sure it adds a good amount for the whole system’s price.At least $80 forced on you.Functional and fun,maybe,but it hasn’t been used much(or at least,to its full potential);neither by 3rd parties or Nintendo themselves.2 years ago,Iwata said the Wii U would support 2 gamepads,but that hasn’t happened either and most likely never will at this point.
And Nintendo seems to want to force yet more gimmicks/costly controllers on us with the NX; They’ve partnered with Jap tech company SHARP to provide ‘free form LCD displays’ for an upcoming Nintendo product,with the screens themselves to begin mass production next year.It may just be for their QoL thing,but the timing matches up with when I believe Nintendo will finish the development process of NX and begin mass production

I’d be willing to bet that the NX wouldn’t come out until like 2018 ( holiday 2017 at the earliest) considering that’s about the normal lifespan of a Nintendo console. If it came out in late 2016 there would likely be another drought of games like how the Wii U had and they would they lose even more consumer trust than they already have. I’m certain they don’t want a repeat of that.
Unless they’re focusing on launch games for the NX and slowly abandoning the Wii U (and we can see that the latter is happening…). I think it would be pretty ballsy if at the next E3, keeping in line with their “we only show off stuff that’s coming out in the next year” mantra that they now have, they show off the NX and announce a December ’16 release date.

I think Nintendo will unveil the NX at E3 next year and then release it in Holiday 2017 and to the ones who think the NX will be a micro-console please do me a favor and rub some butter on your hands and slap the shit out of yourself. Nintendo knows that can’t afford to screw up the NX and if they try to make it into a Ouya clone, that would be the worst decision they’ve ever made and the biggest monumental flop since the Virtual Boy. The system will most likely have x86 architecture, far more memory than the Wii U, a beefier GPU with 4K upscaling abilities (I hope) and a new but useful kind of innovation that’s never been seen before in gaming. Nintendo, it’s time for you guys to show Sony and Microsoft how it’s done and I know you can do it. I still believe in you

I loved to play metroid prime with wii mote + nunchuk.. it would be a nice move reintroducing these controls!
My idea: wii mote + Bluetooth nunchuk, both with mems gyro, accelerometer, magnetometer and pressure sensors to sense the force you use to grasp the controllers!
A lot of people, myself included, hate the Wii mote. It was nice at first, but the novelty wore off. I have always preferred traditional controllers. I REALLY don’t like the gamepad either.

to be honest I am not happy at all with nintendo. We hearing lot of game being developped for the NX… fuck that!!!! I want some game for the Wii U. The E3 was bloody horrible and we hear from left and right some developpers start working on games for the NX…. Get your arse in gear eggie and co and deliver some games for the wii U.
I feel like the Wii u is a lost cause anyway so bring on NX. The E3 this year got me 0% excited about Wii U’s future. Star Fix looks dated even for Wii U and the rest of the titles are just bottom of the barrel types. Zelda is the only exciting title in development. That’s it.
I really wish they would make a Mario game that’s more like Mario 64 or Galaxy in terms of gameplay. I didn’t like the 3/4 view type thing in 3D World. I also didn’t like the almost “portable” style of gameplay in it where you can complete a stage so quick and then just go back to the map. I hope the next console has a big, huge Mario game that gets me more invested. I didn’t like any of the Mario games in Wii U except Mario Kart 8. I mean it’s so strange they debuted Wii U with a “new” super Mario Bros. game. A 2D side scroller? Didn’t get anyone excited and the game itself felt like a carbon copy of the Wii and 3Ds versions too. Just lazy.
Nintendo has more to do then just make better hardware. The games that are actually awesome on Wii U are fewer then any other Nintendo console.
