Software Update Brings Mid-Level Checkpoints And New Courses To Super Mario Maker

On Nov. 4, a free software update for the Super Mario Maker game brings new content to the hit title for the Wii U console. These include the ability to add mid-level checkpoints to levels, as well as the addition of Course World categories that highlight new levels from Nintendo and partner creators outside Nintendo. To date, players have uploaded more than 3.3 million levels globally, and these new features add even more ways to play and create in the game than ever before.

With the addition of mid-level checkpoints, users now have the option to add flags to their levels, allowing players to start at the selected point if they lose a life – rather than having to start over at the beginning of the level. Players can choose to edit and re-upload their own levels, or create new levels from scratch using this feature. Shaking an arrow sign item from the course parts palette will allow you to place a checkpoint flag.

Following the update, players can also insert power-ups that are dependent on Mario’s status. For example, by attaching a Super Mushroom to a Fire Flower and placing it inside a block, Mario will receive the Super Mushroom when he is small, and the Fire Flower when he is large.

The software update also introduces Event Courses in the game’s Course World online hub. Event Courses will feature levels from partner creators outside Nintendo. One of the first Event Courses will be “Ship Love,” the winning level from the “hackathon” event that was held at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park earlier this year. Facebook is the first outside partner in the United States to design a level for Super Mario Maker; employees had the opportunity to design and present their creations to a panel of judges before the winning level was selected.

The level that was featured in the final round of the Omegathon event at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo event will also be available for players to experience shortly after the update goes live. New Event Courses will be added to the listing on an ongoing basis, some of which may even feature new Mystery Mushroom transformations. Additionally, a new Official Makers section in Course World will be added after downloading the update, featuring specially selected courses, including some created by Nintendo.

    1. its a start, but not everything.
they still need… amiibo support for all art styles.
      green moving blocks
      more powerups.
slopes, lave sculpting, water features, water spouts, and water falls (the ones you can swim up)
gravaty ramps (allow mario to run up walls)
boo doors (fake door that turns into boos)
      green orbs
magic blocks (white blocks you can through)
white munchers ( the jumping ones)
pipes that travel within a area
      balance platforms (from original mario)
      keys (secret exits)
      yoshi colors
more level themes (night theme, poisen swamp, dessert, forest, mountain)
      gold flower
      spring boards (super mario land)
      fuzzies
      track switch buttons
      track chainsaws
      boo yoshi
      random powerup blocks
      spiders, boomarang and fire bros.
yoshi coins (try to collect all 3)
background , music options, custom boss battles, more sound effects
ball and chain (super mario world)
      charging chuck (football player)
dino-rino , dino-torch, angry sun, hot head, pokey
      quick sand, sliding ground,
rex, porcu-puffer, thwimp, (and many other enemies) they have plenty to add, and i would be fine with some of it being paid DLC.
this is mario maker, would be sad if they made it so limited.

  1. Thats something BASIC for this game… i was wondering why the mushrooms and flowers werent working propertly lol xD (meaning if youre small, the logic says youll get a super mushroom, if youre big the logic says youll get a fire flower… but i think they forgot lol)

Now we need to change the drawing to a Supér Smash Bros stage builder like.. you know drawing instead building everything with blocks…. cause you need it for SM3, SMW and NSMW

      1. 1. Never grateful for delayed game project if it was never entirely ready which is completely against Nintendo’s hypocrite “delayed games” quote. 2. Hell no unless it adds something new to the table and reasonably priced for what it offers.

        1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

          >>>You haven’t even played it, you have no Wii U and it feels nowhere incomplete nor is either, your whining is as pathetic as the Xbot infection>>>

              >>>The combinations you can make with the enemy sprites and items alike plus the course itself is a lot more than what you see in the videos or pictures>>>

          1. There’s two types; either the sane kind that doesn’t support all types of BS or the extremely blind fucks that takes any and all BS from Nintendo to feel proud of their own stupidity?

      1. The community is growing fast with advice, tutorials and the like. Even if you don’t have a lot of ideas, you can check a lot of things out first and come back later with better knowledge of what you consider interesting to do.
