Unity Is Now Running On The New Nintendo 3DS

We heard last year that development platform Unity would be coming to the New Nintendo 3DS and now it’s finally available for developers. Unity will work on the original Nintendo 3DS, but the developers are saying that it runs much better on the New Nintendo 3DS so they should target that machine. The team at Unity say that they have  been busy “profiling, optimizing, and ironing out the niggles” so that it runs well and are also confident that a newer version of the platform will be released at a later date.

“We’ve been putting Unity for New Nintendo 3DS version 5.2 through its paces for a few months, and it’ll be made available once it’s proved itself by getting a game through Nintendo’s mastering system. That should be in the near future, but it’s not something that’s easy to put a date on.”

  1. Cool, now maybe it’ll have enough exclusives to warrant a real upgrade. Although, with rumors of the NX being just around the corner, its probably too late. (If it is a handheld that is)

  2. How much I care about this really depends on how soon we’re getting the NX portable >_> I have an XL, but kinda wanna get the smaller New 3DS just because the XL is too big and I got tiny hands…

I’m getting off topic, but the struggle is real lol </3

  3. Is this for the XL version too, or just the regular one? Cause if it is, then it’d be pretty pointless to have a New Nintendo 3DS using the Unity engine with the XL version missing out.
