In a recent Polygon article, the journalist wrote about Sonic’s history along with SEGA’s hopes for the future of Sonic.
As previously mentioned in an earlier post, Big Red Button fully acknowledges the backlash from the release and subsequent issues of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Sonic key developer, Takashi Iizuka, admitted to Polygon that mistakes made with Rise of Lyric included putting priority into shipping rather than quality and fan expectation, he also mentioned that the Sonic Team had not been deeply involved in the game’s development. He does however, have hopes for the future of Sonic, and advised that the Sonic Team needs to keep the franchise expanding.
“When you buy a Sonic game, we want you to see that Sega logo on the package and know that you’re getting a great experience,” he says. “Ideally, I want Sonic to be a character loved both by people who play games and by those who don’t.”
Iizuka talked about how the Sonic franchise needs pushing in certain areas such as media and television, movies, merchandising and the appearance of characters in different types of games. He expressed his desire to ensure Sonic remains relevant and iconic.
“I want to make him a character who continues to be iconic and remains relevant as one of the first cool characters a child might see,”

Ha ha sonic is dead
Sonic isn’t dead – not forever. The franchise has enough potential and enough history that he is ready to make a comeback at any moment. All it takes is developers going back to a real gameplay-focused game – and when successes are had, like with Generations, they need to be built upon rather than thrown out.
So he is dead until he gets a good game
He also voiced sonic in the SATam series and the underground series. Spun out when I saw jallel white credit on those back in the day.

*laughing* Ah, no.
You’d think they had learned about prioritizing quality over shipping the game too soon WAY back when Sonic 06 made that mistake.
I’m sorry Sega; we had some good times back in the Dreamcast days, and I really wanna hope for a good Sonic game, but I can’t take any of this seriously unless your actions speak louder than your words >_>
Does anyone remember when Steve Urkel did the voice of Sonic in the early 90’s? If not, it’s on netflix right now lol
The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog?
lol yep. I used to watch it as a kid and had no idea it was Steve Urkel. It’s funny to watch now knowing that.
Hopefully, SEGA learns from past mistakes made on the Franchise in General and avoids repeating them.
~*Like they learned from their mistakes with Sonic 06 only to repeat them countless times after? Like Stardust said, their actions have to speak louder than their words. After all, we all know how easy it is to say one thing while doing another thing entirely.*~
~*Like Nintendo this past gen, all you have are words. We’ll believe it when you finally start making your actions reflect your words or outdo your words entirely.*~
Except Nintendo has been delivering nothing but great games.
That’s a matter of opinion, but the general consensus says the opposite. Mario Tennis Ultra Smash has less content than Mario Tennis on the N64 and what little gameplay it has is considered boring. Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer AND amiibo Festival both failed to impress, with the latter frequently being called “sleep-inducing.” Chibi-Robo Ziplash has been called boring and unpleasant compared to past installments. And DON’T get me started on Federation Farce.
Not everything Nintendo has released this year has been gold, or even up to their own high standards.
~*Nothing but great games? *chuckles* I needed that laugh. Thank you. I’d say more but Man of Brisk covers it nicely. Besides, I wouldn’t be as nice about as he was.*~
These guys are like the adults on Charlie Brown: “Wha wha wha wha” and no one really cares what they actually say at all.
i think i have that game downloaded on my Xbox 360.
