Metroid Prime Federation Force Coming Late Spring

Nintendo’s Kensuke Tanabe, producer of the Metroid Prime series, has spoken about the controversial Metroid Prime: Federation Force which details the struggle between the Galactic Federation and the infamous Space Pirates. Metroid Prime: Federation Force was always intended to be an online multiplayer experience and part of the Metroid Prime series. Like an RPG, players can customize their “role” in the game, with some players focusing on weapons and others on healing. It launches late Spring.

If you wanted me to be a federation soldier than you should have placed me on Wii U using realistic models, with high levels of customization involving armor parts, weapons, and decals. They were afraid of taking risks and instead of going for a 15 million Wii U install base, they went for the 60 million install base. They might make a profit in the end, but at what cost?

      1. Exactly! What public are they trying to cater to? Metroid fans? Obviously not, I mean we haven’t had a Metroid game for almost a decade now (and no, Other M isn’t a Metroid game either – it’s 100% linear with no feeling of Metroidvania whatsoever!), and the best thing they come up with for the 30th anniversary is a spin-off that doesn’t follow the aesthetics and gameplay rules of the franchise!

Are they catering to casual gamers, then? I’d say that’s their idea, but then why utilize the name of a series only the most hardcore portion got into? If you slap the Metroid name in a game, it’s obvious you’re catering to that audience that followed the franchise over the course of 2, 3 decades! You’re going to show the casual market a lie in order to trick them into playing your games? Isn’t that what the Wii tried to do, trying to bait the casuals with motion controls and have them play Zelda later on? How did that turn out, Nintendo?!

As Cereza said, at what cost are they doing it?

          1. Speaking of, I’d be more quick to buy Other M on the 3DS in 3D than I will Federation Farce on 3DS. Least with Other M, character portrayals not withstanding, I can still enjoy myself on the gameplay & artstyle alone. Just mute the cutscenes & voila! Problem solved! lol

      1. I wouldn’t call it awesome, but it sure as hell wasn’t bad. We got exactly what we could expect, and a little more.

  1. Mehhhh… the art style does not fit Metroid in the slightest. And the gameplay just looks kind of… I dunno, slow? I really want to like this, but it just looks kinda poopy. I love co-op games, so that’s the only reason I haven’t completely wrote it off yet. Come on, Next Level Games… what is this????

    1. I agree it doesn’t look really like Metroid but it actually does I just really like the CO OP idea! I liked hunters so i think ill love this more!

      1. If they show off more footage that looks fun to me, I’m sure I’ll pick it up. I’m still not sold on it yet, as much as I’d like a good co-op game on 3DS. Glad you like it though!

Good that means I doing something fucking right. That make me want spread more of my “Hot Garbage” so broken down obsolete bitches such yourself continue to fucking hate. Avoir bitch.

  2. With each reveal and new footage you’ll get more and more excited. It’s already looking way more promising than before (like most Nintendo games do after first reveal) so I’m sure as we get more information you Debbie Doubters will climb aboard the hype train. Or, stay stubborn and don’t buy the game.

  3. *watches trailer*

…Nope, still shit. Metroid’s one of the few actually serious Nintendo franchises, but I cannot take it seriously when the character models look like… that. And I KNOW the 3DS can do better visuals than that.

  4. So I must admit: That trailer is leaps and bounds better than the sorry excuse for one we got at E3 2015. Why didn’t we get this first?!

  5. The abomination called Federation Force isn’t going anywhere, huh? Enjoy this shit game, filthy casual Metroid fans. Like Other M, this game does not exist & I refuse to accept either games as canon. They take place in some fucked up chibi, family friendly universe of Metroid. I don’t want cartoony or family friendly Metroid. Take this game & shove it up your asses. Ugh!!

That’s it. Nintendo, do us a favor. Pull a Chibi-Robo Zip Lash & promise that if Federation Force does not sell that you guys will never make another Metroid ever again. I’d rather Metroid die now than turn into total shit.

-||What bothers me the most is that producer from the trilogy actually made this garbage, it’s like he doesn’t want to make more Metroid games and it shows||-

-||Then give it to someone else who will treat it with respect then you treacherous fool||-

      2. Like Quadraxis mentioned, I doubt it would matter since the producer of Retro’s games is supporting Federation Force. :/ He’d probably try to shoehorn something of Farce into a true Metroid Prime game if he isn’t allowed to do so with this abomination.

But if Federation Force existing means the things in that game never touch a true Metroid game, I’ll gladly accept the lesser of two evils which is this game instead of the greater where that shit is thrown into Metroid “Prime 4.” I can just pretend the game is non-canon & move on.

-||There is no such thing as “Casual Metroid fans”, only civilians that like anything disregarding what makes a franchise unique and great to begin with||-

  6. You know Nintendo loves damage control when they removed the like/dislike bar on Federation Farce’s video.

  7. I’m a huge “Metroid” fan. I was deeply hurt and disappointed that this was our 30th anniversary game at E3 last year. Having said that, I’m excited to try it. It does look fun, despite not meshing with the “Metroid” universe. As has been said before, I liked “Hunters”, and this looks to be a successor of sorts.

    1. I see your viewpoint, but there’s one problem- Hunters was competitive whereas this is cooperative and every player is working towards the same unanimous goal, so I wouldn’t really call it a successor even partially.

…And no, I do not acknowledge Blast Ball- that’s a $5 eShop game at best. It has as much relevance to the Metroid universe as the breakfast I ate this morning.

  9. Well in spite of the bottomless well of hate for the game I’m still quite interested in it and will give it a play. It always intrigues me when a dev says “I’ve always wanted to do this in the series”or when they are making a game that they have interest in making, as you most often find quite fascinating changes like with Majora’s Mask. Still don’t get the hate for the art style either. It’s just diferent. I can appreciate teh visual change not being one’s preferences or whatever, but I find people demanding realistic shit in the game kinda silly. I hope the game is genuinely good, interesting, and very fun. The idea of piloting a mech based off Samus’ suit pleases me.

    1. Of course you don’t get the hate because you’re not a hardcore Metroid fan that knows the series revolves around realistic graphics, not kiddy, family friendly chibi artstyle. Using it for Metroid is like making an Alien movie with a chibi artstyle & making it family friendly for little kids to watch by removing all of the rated R content. So no. It’s not silly to demand realistic graphics in Metroid just like it wouldn’t be silly to demand a rated R Alien movie as these things go hand in hand together. This isn’t the Legend of Zelda where you can change the artstyle on a whim.

Tell me, how would you feel if they took Super Mario, made one with realistic graphics, & gave Mario an AK-47 as he rides through the Mushroom Kingdom GTA style killing everything in sight, ending it with Mario & Peach in a sex scene? It might sound fun but that’s not what Mario is about. Well that’s how many of us feel about Federation Farce. Speaking of Zelda, how would you react if they took a Legend of Zelda game & made it exactly like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with nudity, mutilation, sex scenes, & cussing? Again, as fun as that would be, it’s just not what Zelda is about.

      1. Um the series started off on the NES, then moved on to SNES, and wasn’t “realistic” until Prime and even then the series was mostly about following Samus as she mud stomps aliens in the face. Not very deep, but nothing wrong with that as the exploring was also a big part of it as well. Sure seeing things look realistic is nice, but I don’t think the early games or Fusion suffered from their styles. After all it’s just an art style at the end of the day. It’s not like we’ve seen GTA levels of gore. Stuff’s always been alien and very PG all things considered (like LoZ). The not liking of the art style is one thing, but the use of “child friendly” in a manner to make the game seem less ballsy is a pretty sad tactic of judging something before you experience it. I mean FE Awakening and Bravely Defalt have less than realistic 3D models in them, but aren’t those games like Teen? And not all that family friendly? So your assumptions are quite weak honestly as the mech models are just mechs and the character pilot models aren’t all that bad from what I’ve seen. I mean Samus’s picture looks freakin sweet and I think that’d be a cool design for her in a 2D Metroid game later on. Personal tastes, sure, but I liked what I saw.

Considering SMB2 and SMW2 are among my favorite Mario games of the 2D franchise, I doubt I’d care much about any of the things you mentioned so long as they were fun. The Mario franchises and series are known for their flexibility and quite honestly I wouldn’t mind watching Mario finally rail Peach with 1ups popping up as she reaches her climax. It’d be funny to me and I’m just a perv like that. Same with a Witcher 3-like LoZ game as long as it’s good and upholds it’s essence (which is more than it’s art style) and Link doesn’t talk on camera, then hellz yeah. Romance the hell out of Malon and Ruto and pull a freaky threesome and I’m good. I play games for fun and escapism and as long as Federation Forces gives me as much enjoyment as I got out of MP3 and feels like it belongs, I’m good, art style be goddamned.

Now if it was like, say, how Assassin’s Creed’s story focused on and was about Desmond, but then they just toss him out in a lame ass way then want me to still care about the universe, I’d agree with ya. But this is exploring more of the universe and saying Samus is chillin out, probably wacking fools or getting her ass waxed during her vacation, or finally cashing in those bounties she’s been hunting.

        1. So you’d support Nintendo taking their biggest family friendly character, Mario, & turning him into a serial killer sleeping around with any woman that lets him while also stealing people’s rides and using all manner of guns? Wow. I guess you’d be okay with Disney doing the same thing with Mickey Mouse as long as it was entertaining and fun, huh. 0.O

          1. If it’s well done and amusing, why should I be upset? Again, Mario is as fluid as a video game character gets, and, as I’ve alluded to, he has multiple series and such. If they wanted a mature SMB series along with the one that was for everyone *shrug* okay by me. I do not let myself say a character can or wouldn’t do that just because of what I know of them, I’m a man who always believes story context is important. If the context is right, anything goes. Only thing that would disappoint me would be if the entire franchise shifted to grit and removed the whimsy completely form the options I could enjoy. But adding to it? Pff again, I’ve thought dirtier things than what they’d show more than likely and so long as Mario keeps away from his brother’s girl and I could have Luigi getting some on Daisy in the back seat while Peach blows Mario as he does a drive by on some Koopa Trooper bitches with the classing classing sound effect of hitting enemies with fire ball playing as the Koopas and Gombas get hit, I’m down. Let’s see how they crank that baby up and make it fun and funny.

I’m not sure if that could work with Mickey as well since he’s kinda always been in one franchise, but Jannet Jackson has a tattoo of him and Minnie doing it so if they wanted a Mature Mickey and friends and made it good sure. If it’s what the artists want to do and they, again, separate mature versions of characters from the usual ones considering the original audience.

Now what makes Federation Force lovely is, the aesthetics haven’t been changed to your happy go lucky family friendly affair. There are some character design shifts for the console’s sake so it could easily show what was going on, but you’re still shooting aliens in the face, I’ve seen alien explosions into a green bloody mist and gibs, and you’re a solder in the Metroid universe trying to survive against the odds as things kinda go hairy while you’re testing out your mech (based n the most amazing power suit so fat in that universe) with your crew. Don’t get where the Mario and Mickey correlation comes in honestly as your examples are about changing the aesthetics and focus of two franchises when MPFF only has a different art style than the realistic one people are yapping about just like 90% of the Metroid games, but it was fun to talk about.
