The folks over at GameXplain have recently had the opportunity to play a little more of Metroid Prime: Federation Force and the impressions aren’t quite as bad as expected. If you’ve been following the game then you will no doubt be aware that the game has been plagued with controversy with some gamers petitioning for Nintendo to scrap the game. However, GameXplain say in their most recent video that it’s “Pretty good, not amazing, something of a drop in the bucket but a fun team based shooter with Tri-Force Heroes vibes, boss fight left something to be desired, missions could end up being too similar.” The game is out this Summer on the Nintendo 3DS.
GameXplain Go Hands On With Metroid Prime Federation Force

-||It doesn’t fit Metroid in my opinion, it really doesn’t||-
-||That’s coming from the GameXplain CIVILIAN and even compares it to Triforce Heroes, end of discussion||-
-||Just die already||-
Nintendo will be blinded by this one if it finds success, the next prime game may inherit this art style. If it fails, it will kill Metroid spectacularly.
I do not think they would think “the art style is not the main reason why this failed so hard, gamers do not care about Metroid”.
I will give this game a try.
I still think you are overreacting, just don’t buy it.
Hahaha! Excellent comment bro.
-||No one that is a lesser Metroid fan or otherwise has anything to counter argument me, period||-
“Metroid” :)

My problem with this game lies more within the development area…
They put too much time and resources in to a spin off that no one wanted.
All this potential… All this time could have been put towards a real mainline Metroid game on the WiiU.
Now the WiiU will die with no Metroid game at all.
Happy 30th Anniversary Metroid.
-||The problem is its very existence and its creators, they must be reprogrammed or disposed off at once||-
Triforce heroes vibes is not a good thing for me honestly
I definitely agree on the demo end. All this talk about it not feeling like Metroid, definitely not looking like Metroid, leaving a lot to be desired and feeling like a multiplayer Zelda game isn’t exactly making me want it. But without actually playing it, it’s hard to get a grasp on how it actually feels and whether or not it would be worthwhile. As is, I’m not likely to get it, but a simple online multiplayer demo could easily change that.
hope they release a demo like they did they did with triforce heroes.
METROID PRIME HUNTERS 2!
🐋
I plan to get this just to build up my 3ds library, but Nintendo better make an actual metroid game for the NX, prime or side-scrolling!
You have my attention. If they don’t make one, then what happens? Continue please.
They will continue swapping out their old fanbase for a new one. One I’m pretty sure won’t have the brand loyalty the last gen of fans had.
At some point. This is going to cost them money. Then, and only then will they realize casual money isn’t as guaranteed or reliable of a revenue stream as hardcore gaming money.
But then, I could be wrong, and they may be successful being a stepping stone between Leapfrog and Current gaming tech. Their IP’s will go to shit and they will move on to whatever they become next… Amusement Park builders or whatever.
Swapping their old fan base for new… You mean running a business that evolves with the times? As older fans grow, and age, and die, a company has to plant seeds to grow into fans as they age. If they only appealed to older fans, they’d die out with said fans. You’re beating around the bush quite a bit to prove a worthless point that doesn’t make much sense to begin with.
With this game, while not appealing to those old enough to really appreciate the Metroid series as it stands, Nintendo is creating new fans. Younger kids can get into this, and it introduces them to a previous franchise so they can have those games sell well across the board. Everyone needs to stop acting so goddamn entitled. This game does not look THAT bad. If it weren’t Metroid it wouldn’t get so much heat. And why, why not let them try to expand a series to a new fan base? It’s just further creating comrades.
-||There is expanding the series to recruit new ones and then there is destroying the very essence of what a franchise is which this disease stands for||-
-||If the empire wants to casualize their weaponry then be my guest, the last 5 years only proves how much they have lost in terms of supporters||-
-||And it’s ironic that they want to appeal to these new civilian infections according to you when the empire has more adults playing Nintendo systems than the other 2 abominations have||-
Nice. You explained it in detail. That’s how you finish a comment.
-||Surrounded by civilians everywhere, once I get power for real, I’ll decimate you all||-
I can see myself playing this as much as I used to play Metroid Pinball, I’m looking forward to another fun spin off game :P
-||Because you are a civilian filth||-
While as spinoff, Metroid Prime Pinball did not commit the same sins as Federation Force 3DS.
I’ve never played the game myself; I found it contains Remixed versions of Metroid Prime music.
Nah I’m just not an uptight brat with a stick up his ass who thinks he should control a video game series that he didn’t create. I’ll play the next traditional Metroid as well, but I’ll have fun with FF for a little bit while I wait. ^^
-||Xbot, go home||-
LOL
Pretty weak response seeing as I don’t even own an xbox. I did however win a gold ps4 from Taco Bell though :P
-||You are irrelevant, you deserve nothing||-
Yet again another nonsensical response, your circuits must be fried lately
-||Spoken like a true irrelevant civilian, you are all slaves to garbage and your garbage made primitive cerebro||-
lol you’re all talk, get at me when you a real boss like this:

-||And you’re, well nothing||-
I see you attended the Pee-Wee Herman School for the Art of Comebacks

I’m only a half-troll and the troll half only comes out when i’m really really bored

Metroid Pinball was actually pretty fun. It also had Chozo lore and Metroid branded graphics. If somehow this game is fun in it’s own right, slapping metroid on it will simply be putting a bullet in Samus’ head as they train their new casual audience to think they now know what metroid is. If they can really pull off rebranding, and rebuilding a fanbase off what they’re doing, so be it. I’m halfway out the door. Guess they didn’t need my money anyway.
It’s just a spin off game though, not a re-branding. It’s not like Tri-Force Heroes is going to become the standard style in the series. It would be like if Pocket Fighter became the standard for all future Street Fighter games, as hilarious as that would have been, it’s just not going to happen lol

I would love to believe it’s just a spinoff.. I would really like to believe that.
If it was a spinoff, we’d have had another Metroid anounced years ago.
Federation Force is Nintendo’s quick and dirty response to fans that feel like the old IP’s have been abandoned.
Starfox? Delay, delay delay
Zelda? We know they are sweating bullets.
Metroid? Nonexistant.
They are trying to appease the hardcore Nintendo fans while making software for the casual crowd. Result? Bullshit. It’s the Wii’s fault. It printed money. Now Nintendo wants casual blood and the old IP’s are being neglected.
It’s business.
Nintendo wants money. They’ll end up making it one way or another. Their IP’s are still worth a fuck-ton of cash. Nintendo will be fine for a while.
I get what you’re saying but I feel like you’re being a little bit too pessimistic and maybe I’m being too optimistic, hopefully there will just be a happy medium. But I have a gut feeling there will be a lot of good games forthcoming on the NX that people have wanted for a long time now. I just hope that Luigi’s Mansion NX rumor is true because I think it would be a good sign for things to come.
I won’t deny being a bit of a pessimist, although I usually prefer realist.
As a number cruncher and strategist, I can’t help but look at all the facts, not just one thing at a time. This game is just one piece of a larger business shift I’ve watched unfold. I bought Animal Crossinh Home Designer for an AC fan, they played it 3 days, then told me it didn’t have near the depth of a full AC game. Triforce Heroes… Same.
Here’s the real problem:
Nintendo has spread itself too thin. It cannot develop it’s IP’s AND sustain a console library by themselves. So they are doing what a desparate bar-owner would do… Start watering down the liquor. Make it go farther and longer, at the expense of quality.
I believe they know if they pull that shit with Zelda U, it will be the last straw for their hardcore fans.
Annnnd I’m rambling again!
And when quality goes to shit, your business goes to shit. I’ve watched enough Bar Rescue to know the future Nintendo is heading for if they keep at this despicable pace.
Damn you, now I have to go turn on my PS3 to get my Puzzle Fighter fix lol.
It’s not a “spin-off”. That’s the problem. They branded it METROID PRIME and the creator also said it is a canon sequel to Metroid Prime 3. It’s not like Metroid: Pinball which is it’s own thing because this has Prime in it. It’s related to that series because of the branding and it represents the next evolution in that series. It’s also completely unfair to pull off something so dramatically different because even if the new generation likes this new game then what will they do? According to you they will search and play the other Prime titles but what happens when the parents find that Federation Forces kiddie style is gone and now their children are fighting zombie troopers on Aether or reading grotesque logs on Tallon IV. What will the kids think of the rest of the Prime titles? Saying they suck and that FF is the best? Makes me cry.
If it is multiplayer-centric like Tri-Force Heroes, I guess I won’t buy it
I feel like this is Nintendo’s piss-poor attempt to get a slice of the monster-hunter pie. I’d bet on it.
I’ll just play Monster Hunter if I want to play with a group and fight monsters. Thanks for the watered down lemonade Nintendo! No thanks!
Gaming outlet: “When a new Metroid installment is going to see the light of the day?”
Nintendo: “We are happy to provide Metroid fans Federation Force, exclusively for 3DS. We are sure that all fans will enjoy it, since it fits perfectly for a wide array of gamers; from the begginners to the most experienced ones.”
GO: “I mean… Is Nintendo planning to release a Prime III sucessor? A more adult-, dark-oriented title?”
N: “We are happy to hear you, Metroid fans. We always do. And my answer is that all possibilities can happen in the future. But, of course, the future of the franchise depends on how well Federation Force is going to perform: the fan base will tell us whether or not the Metroid formula is exhausted.”
Sega forcing Sonic Boom down our throats. WWE shoving Reigns vs HHH for WWE WHC as WM32 main event down our throats. Nintendo shoving this down our throats. Have these three companies fallen so low that they think they can tell their fanbases “You may not like what we’re giving you but we are going to MAKE you see why you should like it! Now be good little boys and girls & buy our shit! We promise you’ll love it! Just give it a try! Come on! We know what you like better than you do!” Talk about patronizing your fanbase. When did these three power houses start thinking they are GOD & can tell us what we should like & not like!? If they keep going down this path, I give Sega, Nintendo, & WWE 10-25 more years before even the casuals get sick of being treated like idiot children.
