We all know the pain of rotating an N64 joystick with our palm to win Tug o’ War in the first Mario Party, but few of us probably know about the glove Nintendo gave away to end the blistering. Did You Know Gaming? has uploaded a video discussing this and many more informative nuggets about the much-loved Mario Party series. For example, did you know that not everyone loved the original games? You can find out which large gaming publication gave the game that kicked off the series a mere 2.5/10 in the video below.

Why do so many Japanese titles have repeated words? Like Guru Guru and Coro Coro (and Puyo Puyo) etc.?
Seeing mini games from the first few Mario Party games made me realize how freakin’ much I MISS THE OLD GAMES! BUMPER BALLS! FACE LIFT! RAKIN’ ‘EM IN, some of my favorite mini-games. Though there was SOME mini-games that I NEVER want to see again. I hope Mario Party eventually gets back to it’s roots. Why hasn’t Nintendo (or, Nd Cube) realized by now how much most people hate the stupid car concept?
I’m still hoping for some sort of SUPER MARIO PARTY game, where every mini-game from all 10 Mario Party games (and also every board) are included in one game. And every Mario Party game should have an option to turn OFF every specific mini-game that you hate. Not just selected categories of mini-games. Because when they’re in categories, you always turn off some that you actually like in the process. Dumb!
I only played a little bit of Mario Party 9 and didn’t like it at all. I bought Mario Party 10 on launch, and it’s still unopened due to reviews and videos I’ve watched, and seeing that god-forsaken car thingy back again. Sadly, the other reason I never opened it is because I have nobody to play it with. My sad life…..(- _ -)
P.S. I thought for sure that GamePro magazine was going to be the publication that gave the first Mario Party games low scores. Since they gave the amazing Earthbound super low, pathetic scores.
Because they use repetition to add the connotation of cuteness and/or to represent onomatopoetic sounds. Other languages use reduplication for lots of other things (to express plurals, for example). It’s just a very widespread linguistic resource.
Super Mario Party was exactly the idea I’m hoping Nintendo considers: bring back ALL of the mini-games, boards even, and just go all-out. Though which would you like better: originals as they looked on each system, or HD models for just about ALL of the games?
What I just thought off, in tandem, was Mario Party Maker, where you could make your own Mario Party board with specific rules, hazards, etc. to each. Being able to share them with others (or mainly friends knowing Nintendo) and, of course, ONLINE play.
Wow! A Mario Party Maker game would be AWESOME! Especially if you could play it with as many different characters as Super Mario Maker allows (the costumes).
Ehhh personally, I think Mario Party up to this point has more than enough Mario Party characters to warrant not needing characters outside the Mario franchise.
