Pokemon Sun & Moon: Here’s More Information About Starter Pokemon

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo have unveiled the first details of the highly anticipated titles Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, starting with a first look at three new first-partner Pokémon and the packaging. Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will launch in North America on November 18, exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

Following in the tradition of previous games in the Pokémon series, players choose one of three special Pokémon to be their first partner. These are among the first Pokémon players will encounter in the game. In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, players will be able to choose between the newly discovered Grass- and Flying-type Pokémon Rowlet, Fire-type Litten, and Water-type Popplio.

Meet the three new first-partner Pokémon that will join Trainers on their adventures in the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games!

Name: Rowlet

Category: Grass Quill Pokémon

Height: 1’00“

Weight: 3.3 lbs.

Type: Grass/Flying

Starting Move: Leafage

The first of the potential partners is the highly adaptable Grass Quill Pokémon, Rowlet. This Pokémon can fly silently through the skies, sneaking up on its opponent without being noticed. It can attack its opponents using powerful kicks, and it can also attack from a distance using the razor-sharp leaves that form part of its feathers. Rowlet can survey its environment and turn its neck nearly 180 degrees from front to back, so it can see directly behind itself. When in battle, Rowlet turns its head to face its Trainer when waiting for instructions.

Name: Litten

Category: Fire Cat Pokémon

Height: 1’04“

Weight: 9.5 lbs.

Type: Fire

Starting Move: Ember

The cool-headed Fire Cat Pokémon, Litten, is the next choice for a first-partner Pokémon. Litten’s fur is rich in oils and is immensely flammable. It constantly grooms itself by licking its coat, collecting loose fur into balls. It then ignites these hairballs to create fireball attacks. When the time comes for Litten to molt, it burns off all of its fur in one glorious blaze.

Name: Popplio

Category: Sea Lion Pokémon

Height: 1’04“

Weight: 16.5 lbs.

Type: Water

Starting Move: Water Gun

The third possibility is the acrobatic Sea Lion Pokémon, Popplio. Popplio can create balloons made of water from its nose and utilize them to create a variety of different strategies and attacks in battle. This Pokémon is better at moving in the water than on land, and can swim at speeds over 25 mph. On land, it uses the elasticity of the balloons it creates to perform jumps and acrobatic stunts.

Clowns are a good form of entertainment. Also, your avatar looks like a red Hitmonchan.

I don’t normally pursue fan fiction. I do like the concept you’ve created though. Before I traded my flesh for alloy, I have memories of my mind going wild thinking about all the mysteries in the Pokemon world, the Zelda and Mario world. Such vivid imagery and I didn’t think to record or draw any of it.

                  1. Ikr? Sometimes I can even get some ideas from fanart of all things and say…..

“That is a future character that I wanna see more fanart to be made of type of art”

The first time I ever laid my eyes on some Parachan fanart was back in 2013.

Yup. I’m a guy who’s into the character behind the fanart? ;)

  1. Phase 1: What the heck are those ugly looking things?

Phase 2: OMG! These evolutions look awesome!

Phase 3: OMG! These starters look so CUTE!

I’ve always mentioned this and someone tells me that this generation is different and we’ll stay at phase 1.

It’s been like this every generation. I don’t expect this one to be any different.

… why does this always happen? I guess people just subconsciously don’t like change?

    1. the owl is so the fave. fire cat is cool, the seel is the worst so missed the mark. cant wait to see final forms that’s the key to any starter

    1. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

At a glance, the new game seems to take place in Okinawa. Litten looks like an Iriomote cat, I’m not really sure about the marine mammels aside from Dugons for Popplio, and Rowlet is clearly one of the famous Collared Owls that are abundant exclusively around southern tropical Asia.

  2. Those are probably the most ugliest starters I’ve seen, and the legendaries look overly complicated. Those trainer clothes look bland as hell. I hope that means customizable clothing is coming back (feeling optimistic).

The world doesn’t look bad at least, looks interesting with the tropical theme they’re aiming for but I have my doubts if it’ll be intriguing to explore. They graduated from chibi characters to more fully formed character models? Impressive, but I hope there’s no catch to it (like bad framerate on older 3DS models).

      1. I know, right… Every time I like a starter, I end up hating the evolutions >_> Like, Totodile is one of my favorite Pokemon, but I hate Ferraliagtr’s design… but then I don’t like Cyndiquil, but Typlosion is another favorite of mine lol. I hope Litten looks cool past level 16-18 lol.

    1. we notice the game will take place in alola region inspire by hawaii but it is a good choice for the developers to pick that name for the new game.

and I gotta say, they look very unique. It’s a first to have an actual flying type for a starter. ( I meant right at the get go, not when it evolves into one.)

  3. I think that Litten and Popplio are really cute. Look on the previous email for their pictures.

    1. what about the legendaries would that not sway your mind to reconsider your next action in regards to purchasing the next installement of pokemon sun and moon lol

      1. I’ll say this much, if and when the time comes that I need the game for some reason, I would update. But until it’s needed I’m good, I’m only playing through Y now, got Alpha Sapphire started. So I’ve got time…

        :D

      1. :D! We’ll see, like I’ve said, if I feel there’s a reason to transfer the years of work put into some of my older pokes up to the current game. I will. But, yeah I stand by what I said, don’t like any of the starters. I’m sure the game will sell like chedder to fill the cash cow, so it’ll be ok haha.

      2. Honestly…. I felt that way about the Sinnoh starters until I saw other Pokemin like Shinx and Mesprit :P When I don’t like the starters, I just invest in a Pokémon you can catch early on and train it up lol.

    2. I don’t think they’re that bad, but they don’t really look like Pokémon. They look more like Digimon or early Yu-Gi-Oh monsters. I think they’ll grow on me… but they don’t really have the charm Kanto and Johto starters have on me… Maybe its just nostalgia lol

  4. Well doesn’t look too bad. They improved the graphics which I thought wasn’t possible on current handheld anymore. I haven’t liked any of the starters since probably gen 3 or 4 so nothings changed there. I like the tropical theme and it looks to have a more over the shoulder view now so that’s good. I’ll give this one a shot I guess

    1. the game view does look better and I think there going to be better control of the character compared to the last instalments with the roller-skates smh

    2. I gotta say, they look very unique. It’s a first to have an actual flying type for a starter. ( I meant right at the get go, not when it evolves into one.)

      1. How about the bulbasaur line, squirtle line, charmander line, pikachu line, machop line, abra line, gastly line, eevee line, dratini line, dodrio, rapidash, arcainine, gyarados, onyx, lapras, golduck, the hitmons, every fossil, the legendary birds, mew and mewtwo. Not to mention that “rock” turned into Golem. I could go on…

Most of the gen 1 pokemon are not the best in terms of power or skill, but they were awesome looking pokemon. The pokemon today aren’t nearly as appealing.

        1. Every game has really good lines and bad lines
I could do the same with any gen
          3. torchic, mudkip, treeko, seedot, poochyena, ralts, slakoth, whismer, aron, bagon, and carvanha lines just to name a few
          4. chimchar, piplup, turtwig, starly, shinx, cranidos and shieldon (fossils), gible, giolu, skorupi, croagunk, carnivine, and snover lines, among others
          5. tepig(a lot of people seem to not like this one), snivy, oshawott, axew, cubchu, gigalith, excadrill, krookodile, caracosta and archeops as fossils, zoruark, reuniclus, eelektross, bisharp, braviary, and hydreigon (I know I started getting into final evolutions here but whatever)
          6. froakie line, fennekin line (a lil), chesnaught, talonflame, pyroar, gogoat, pangoro, malamar, dragalge, heliolisk, tyrantrum and aurorus, goodra, trevenant, and noivern. Not to mention all of the mega evolutions they included
I didn’t even mention any legendaries, either
This is an easy game to play. It’s all a matter of judgement. But you saying that pokemon is running out of design ideas is closed-minded and stupid
There are a lot of things they are doing well and they have a lot of well designed pokemon and a lot of poorly design pokemon. Don’t act like generations 1 and 2 only have well designed pokemon

          1. Whoa whoa whoa. I never said that gens 1 and 2 had only well designed pokemon, but you have to admit that the vast majority of gen 1 pokemon were very well designed. Percentage wise, no generation has had as many well designed pokemon as 1.

And how can you say it’s close-minded to think that they’re running out of ideas? When they come out with pikachu clones (minum and plusle) and start designing pokemon based on furniture (chandelure), you have to think they’re hard pressed for ideas.

  5. I don’t mind any of the designs. People gonna complain but let’s be honest. We’re all going to get the game. We’re all gonna play through it. We’re all gonna love it weather we like the starters/legendaries now or they grow on us in time as we play. Besides these are the pre-evo starters. Wait till you see their full evo’s. I hated chespin’s evolved forms when I first saw them. eventually he became my fav. And a psychic-fire lion and a flying dark dragon bat thing . I think they have some awesome potential. Much better than a pokeball pokemon and a pile of muk. Each gen had their bad and good designs.

  6. I gotta say, they look very unique. It’s a first to have an actual flying type for a starter. ( I meant right at the get go, not when it evolves into one.)

    1. It’s also got pretty good resistances
Neutral to rock, bug, and electric, which would normally be strong, 4x weakness to ice, 2x to fire, poison, and flying, resistance to fight, water, 4x to grass, complete immunity to ground
Not many weaknesses because of this dual typing
Also a new move and super cuteness

  8. I think rowlet looks like trash as does the water one. Litten, however, a fucking fire kitty? I may have a new top ten favorite Pokemon depending on the evolutions lol. I always go for fire (actually I usually use my roomate copy and play his to get the starter Pokemon and trade them onto mine so I have all three before he starts his real file) and I love kitties so yea I mate actually be a little excited for this game. I already liked them choosing Sun & Moon, we will see though. I got x and y and barely played, went through too many Pokemon games around black and white all in quick succession to catch them all and upload to my white file, and I’ve been burned out on Pokemon ever since.
