Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Happy To See Minecraft Doing Well On The Wii U

A Tweet from Head of Microsoft’s Xbox division, Phil Spencer, shared his thoughts on the company’s partnership with Nintendo and the success of Minecraft on the Wii U.

A Twitter user originally Tweeted Phil Spencer noting that it was nice to see him Retweet the Minecraft Wii U news regarding the Mario themed content arriving to Minecraft on May 17, and Phil responded advising that their partnership with Nintendo “has been great” and that he’s glad to see the title do so well on the Wii U, including the new content. Here’s the Tweet below:

    1. He supports all these companies in hopes one of them might save his from failure. Xbox 1 needs gamed and new ideas, not Phill slurping others for good ideas he should make.

      1. Haha, I doubt very seriously that’s something he worries about. He’s showed support for other companies and games before by way of positive feedback and response. He at least seems like a good sport about the business he’s in.

        1. I’m not sure if you ever do research on Microsoft, but that Xbox system has never turned in a profit. They’ve been at a lost with making Xbox since the first one. And regardless of his title and high position, he might not have it for long since Xbox 1 is trying anything and everything to get customers. I’m sure failure is on his mind.

          1. Phil Spencer wants to keep improving the Xbox One and make it great. Even if it isn’t making profit. He gets my respect for that. Microsoft had better not be dumb enough to drop him from his position. He’s the best thing to happen to Xbox in quite awhile.

            1. While agree, I also have seen a lot of his comments regarding his wishes to work with Nintendo characters and the offer to connect X Live to PSN. The case of it is, despite him being the best guy for Micro, Xbox is going downhill faster than the Wii U. Xbox sold more than GameCube, but GameCube still had more profit than Xbox. Xbox 360 sold the most out Wii and PS3 over time because of their 200 price point for a 4GB system. They were still at lost, and Microsoft still with Xbox 1 selling at profit still is at lost because of these bundles they are dropping. I don’t think Phil can really do anything unless gain traction from their own first-party group and make better games. It also says how great Microsoft is if they brought rare and can’t even make those IP’S that they have now generate money similar to what they did with Killer Instinct. Good game but without the magic.

              1. If Microsoft ever goes 3rd party & Phil Spencer is still in charge of Microsoft’s gaming division as a whole, I can definitely see a partnership between them & Nintendo happening. It wouldn’t be the first time Microsoft partnered with a big video game console developer to make video games before trying with their own console. *cough*Sega&Dreamcast*cough*

                1. I doubt he will be despite Microsoft’s whoas not related to him. I would, however, suggest Nintendo or Sony to grab him if that happens. While Sony is king at the moment, they big shots give two F’s about the customers. And Nintendo just needs young blood and/or better ideas at the center of their company. Either way, I’d rather not see Mircosoft move third-party because they clearly lack first-party titles. When I think of Nintendo, another of IP’S come to mind. Same thing with Sony. I only think of Gears and Halo when I think of Xbox. I know that’s not the only games they have, but it doesn’t seem like they have anything else.

                  1. They have a few of Rare’s titles. If they would get better developers in Rare, they could easily make Perfect Dark & Killer Instinct great contenders in the FPS & fighting genres.

                    1. That’s the thing, Microsoft doesn’t have any real good First-Party or Second-Party (rare) support. It’s funny that Microsoft has third-party but Nintendo doesn’t. Nintendo has first-party but no third. Maybe they should link together and just try to go against Sony. Rare sucked after Nintendo lost them anyways.

                      1. You do know Microsoft 100% owns Rare, right? They count as 1st party. But I don’t blame you for not knowing since many still don’t realize Nintendo 100% owns Monolith Soft, a 1st party Nintendo development team now.

                        1. Mono is who made Xenoblade, yes? And I wouldn’t consider rare first-party with the way they have used them. That’s why I don’t consider them first at all. They were brought out by rare awhile ago by micro when Nintendo didn’t make the bid on them after the contact ended. And I’m going to say micro doesn’t have first party or the conversation between sales and who has better games wouldn’t trickle down to Sony.

                        2. No offense, but it’s absurd to say Microsoft doesn’t have any good first or second party studios. Every game that they put out obviously isn’t a masterpiece, but their studios are still good and can make good games.

                          1. And none take. I just don’t have faith in Microsoft’s game development. And their sales and the way the 1 is selling is evident behind this view.

            1. I’m telling you, if there was any one person who could possibly make a Nintendo/ Microsoft partnership work, it’d be Phil.

Imagine it, Master Chief and Mario Chief, kicking alien goomba ass all over the galaxy.

I’m sold already, take my monies.

                1. Mm, it would be an amazing partnership no matter which one got to Nintendo first. But I will say it would be dope to get half of the cool RPGs sony systems get. Legend of Mana, I’m looking at you.

        2. Your man Liam had to get involved on the tweet…………..lol It’s great that all of this is happening to Wii U owners. PS gets LBP, The Last Of Us, Uncharted, God Of War to name a few. Love having the PS4 and Vita versions myself to get the best of both imo!

        3. Unrelated but I haven’t seen an article on here yet about the 3 new starter Pokemon. Water and grass look stupid as hell to me, the grass kinda looks like the owl Pokemon to me. But a fire kitty? That alone may bring me back into the game lol. I always start with fire and I love kitties! Nintendo wants me back! Oh and the Mario minecraft stuff is nice to see and will probably bring in money for Nintendo and Microsoft. I hate minecraft lol but cool to see that happen anyway.

            1. Yea rowlet looks like a cutesied up Hoothoot with two legs, very lazy if you ask me. And the seal just looks like a straight up doofus lol. Color palette for Litten could maybe be better, I don’t mind it much but I could be biased since it’s a cat. Although I’m not a fan of skitty or some of the other cat Pokemon so maybe not.

        5. Of the big 3 companies, Phil is arguably the most geniuine and dedicated to his medium. He seems to have the gamers in mind, as opposed to making his competitors look inferior and boasting about specs and sales. Sony and Nintendo execs can learn a lot from him.

          1. While I agree that he does seem very honest and genuine, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any Nintendo reps putting down competition or flaunting over them.

        6. im actually surprised that it is selling decently on wii u, i thought it would sell like sh*t considering people at first lost hope that minecraft would never come to wii u and now that it did, well good to see that its doing well, not a well as the pc version since it may never catch up to it in sales, maybe it might come close to halfway but not holding my breath on that

          1. The console versions will never catch up to pc imo. The pc version is so much further ahead in terms of updates and is so much more versatile in creative mode. I do prefer playing survival on a console though. It just feels more natural using a controller for that mode.

        7. Microsoft got very lucky this gen. If the Wii U didn’t end up being a fucking joke, Xbox One would have been in 3rd place again. Anyway, I look forward to the day if Microsoft ever drops out of the video game console market. I wonder which of the IPs they own will go to Sony’s consoles & which will go to Nintendo’s.

            1. If Minecraft still being multiplatform is anything to go by, Microsoft would want to make their other IPs go multiplat, too, if they ever dropped out of the home console market. They’d definitely make more money that way than just going solely PC.

                1. You do realize Minecraft isn’t the first time Microsoft allowed an IP of theirs onto a Nintendo system, right? There are a few games on Nintendo handhelds that are Microsoft IPs. With that in mind, I have to disagree with part of your comment. Besides, even Microsoft knows not everyone wants to game on a PC using Windows. Why do you think they made the Xbox brand in the first place? >.<

                  1. I don’t know why you’d think that. Microsoft isn’t going to give up their games if they leave the console market. Why should they? They have Windows and of course you know they’re going to want you to use it. They’re putting more and more focus into the Windows 10 store right now and Xbox One is helping towards that. Yes, it’s a console, but it’s closely integrated with Windows (it runs Windows 10 OS) and they will get your money regardless if you buy on PC or the One. This ain’t like SEGA who dropped out the race and basically had no choice but to bring games to other platforms to keep their business going. Microsoft isn’t struggling anywhere near that level. Would I like their IPs on other consoles? Sure. But realistically? That’s not happening. Yes, there’s games like Minecraft on other consoles, but that’s because Microsoft didn’t pick it up until afterwards. If they owned it before it ever came to those consoles, you really think they’d allow it on them? Lmfao no. They’d want you to use their own platform. Nothing wrong with that though. That’s how they run their business. You come to them for Microsoft games. Not Sony or Nintendo.

                    1. I still disagree. If Microsoft is as money grubbing as many of us believe, they will want to maximize their profits if the Xbox brand ever goes under & what better way to do that than to make all of their games available to every platform if they ever give up on the Xbox brand. Because again, Microsoft made the Xbox because they wanted people to buy games & they knew some, if not most, refused to buy a high end expensive gaming PC for that. That won’t change since a lot of people still refuse to pay over 1000 bucks or more for them. Microsoft knows this. They won’t let that market that doesn’t do high end PCs slip away.

                      1. Same could be said for any of the three. Putting their games on the other consoles as well would boost sales. But then you have little reason to buy their own console, like I said. That’s not what they want to happen. Microsoft would have gave up on Xbox already if they just cared only about making the most money.

            1. No because there would still be Sony’s PlayStation brand, Nintendo’s consoles, & currently the Steambox. Not to mention PC still being a contender to people that don’t mind the price tag that comes with it.

              1. Steambox still counts as PC. Different from the console market. You’ll only really have Nintendo and Sony left. With how Nintendo is doing right now with the Wii U, pretty sure they’d hardly be able to stop Sony from doing what they want to. So yeah. It’s monopoly time. Lmao.

                1. So Steambox doesn’t hook up directly to the TV with it’s own specially made controllers? Then what’s the bloody point since you can just as easily access Steam on your regular PC & buy a specially designed PC controller?

                  1. Yes it does. It has its own controller and connects to the TV via HDMI. The Steam Box is mainly targeted towards console gamers that want to experience PC gaming. It is not a console, it’s still a PC. In other words, no it’s not directly competing with the consoles. That’s not it’s purpose. Steam Box does not have it’s own exclusive games.

                    1. Okay. I get it now. I wasn’t really interested in Steam Box so I never bothered to research it.

                      1. Yup. Although, I wouldn’t really recommended it. Doesn’t run on Windows so the games are really limited right now. Like I always say, best option is to build it yourself. If that’s not possible now, of course, you can stick with a console. And maybe someday when you have enough time and patience, you could do it. :)

        8. If there’s ever a Complete Edition released (with all DLC included on disc), I may actually consider buying this. Simply because of the Mario stuff. But I have yet to see Nintendo (or any third party company) release any Complete Editions (or GOTY editions) on Wii U.

          1. This is going be free DLC as far as I know. The only one I’m hyped for and I’m glad that I bought the game for my sibling so I can play this.

        9. Well I hope his is happy since Minecraft bring MS money. What I don’t get is: the guy seems to be a nice guy and he seems to have plenty ideas. So why on earth, he can’t materialise those ideas and make the xbox 1 working better. Not that I want that but, the dude should have released before the xbox 1 came out, that people will not be please with the spy camera, the DRM, the cloud services and the rest.
