Nintendo Explained How amiibo Will Work In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

An official Tumblr post by Nintendo elaborated more on the Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary amiibo, which released in stores today. They said that “each will offer random items you can use in the  game when used with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Legend has it, you may even receive a  treasure chest with a rare item if you’re lucky?! 8-bit Link will reward you with a random number of barrels. You might find rupees inside too! Ocarina  of Time Link will reward you with a random amount of meat. Toon  Link will reward you with a random amount of fish. Wind Waker Zelda will reward you with a random selection of plants.”

Thanks, ZeldaStorm

  1. What!? Link, the Hero of Time, won’t give me the Ocarina of Time itself!? If this game takes place before it was ever created, I can understand it then… But if this is after that game, whyyyyyy!? D:

    1. Then again, the Hylian Shield existed in Skyward Sword, with no explanation given whatsoever as to how, before the Hyrule Royal Family, or even Hyrule itself, was even founded… *sighs & shrugs*

      1. I remember reading somewhere (maybe it was an overview of the Skyward Sword manga) that the Hylian Shield and its design/crest were created by Hylia herself before-

Hylia gave up her immortal form to prevent Demise from harnessing her power if he ever returned, and left it for her chosen hero, Link, to find after she and him were reincarnated on Skyloft generations later.

Maybe, maybe not, but it would be a decent explanation even if not true.

      2. It was explained…. The dragon Lanayru made the shield and named it the “Absolutely sturdy shield!” lol.

    2. Something like that or even weapons/clothing from the game could very much be in the ‘super rare’ chests that you’ve got a chance of getting

  2. I don’t think Amiibos are going to be around too much longer. Maybe a couple years. I think the idea worked better in practice than in reality, and if it wasn’t for Smash for Wii U I don’t even think they would exist at all. Either way Im still going to buy all the Zelda ones, lol.

    1. They’ll be staying. Nintendo has no intention in halting amiibo production. And don’t say that it’s because of what happened to Skylanders and Disney Infinity. LEGO Dimensions is still going, so yeah, shut up!

      1. Nothing last forever man, and Nintendo can only sell us the same toys that do the same thing so many times. Its only a matter of time.

  3. I feel like games that just do the random item amiibo thing is kind of a cop out. Hyrule Warriors did it too, and it really cheapens the feel of the amiibo. It’s like, what’s the point of buying specific ones if they don’t do a specific thing?

  4. I’d MUCH rather they just give small bonuses like these than do anything truly significant. Think about it. Everyone saying this is disappointing is basically saying they want multiple physical day one DLC trinkets (of which there are already well over 100) to have a major impact on their games. The five Link amiibos alone that can be used for BoTW would already match the price of the game itself. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t want that kind of DLC, especially not in major Nintendo releases.

  5. myself and a ton of my family and friends dont buy amiibo because of this reason, they’re one trick ponies.. until theres a skylanders type game and more creative, mutli functional us, forget it.

  6. Amiibos are the worst thing to happen. I’d rather Nintendo went third party than resorting to such cheap and desperate stunts.

  7. the only one i care about is wolf link. i need that dude running around with me. although, buying it alone without playing TPHD will only give me a 3 star wolf. i just cant justify paying 70$ for a game i have no desire to play again, all the way to the end, so I can get more hearts for the amiibo. Furthermore, after seeing they are porting splatoon, and xenoblade chronicles x……AND i have hyrule warriors legends on my 3ds… i have no use for my wii u. getting traded in like whoa towards my switch.

    1. Do you know if you can use two wolf Links on the same Twilight Princess file to have them both get 20 hearts? My roomate and I both have the game and amiibo, he has been playing it, I played the first day and never again. I might play again if I have to, but if I could throw my amiibo on his file then I would much prefer that.
