Pixelmon Minecraft Mod Shut Down By Pokémon Company

Alongside Pokémon, Minecraft has been one of the biggest gaming phenomena. It therefore made perfect sense to combine the two. The Pixelmon mod added Pokémon, Gyms and Pokémon Centers to the hit sandbox game. However, the developers have now announced that they will be ending its development. According to the Pixelmon team, The Pokemon Company sent them a request to do so. Did you ever play Pixelmon? Tell us below.

“With much sadness, but keeping all our fond memories, we must announce that Pixelmon is ending its development. We have had a great time making this mod and creating such a wonderful community but after a request from the Pokémon company we will be shutting our doors.”

  1. This is more understandable when you realise that Pixelmon Servers (Like any MC server) sometimes sell perks that players can use ingame, like everyday free pokeballs or bigger plots etc. So technically some servers made money with the Pokémon IP thanks to Pixelmon and you know that is illegal.

    1. Why do people always play the money card?! Even without money involved this would be illegal! You can’t use intellectual properties other than for fair use. And fair use only means stuff like education, journalism etc. and not using it any kind of product, NOT EVEN WITHOUT MONEY INVOLVED!

        1. You have no fucking clue about copy rights or what a parody is! Luckily Wikipedia has an answer for both: “Although a parody can be considered a derivative work under United States Copyright Law, it can be protected from claims by the copyright owner of the original work under the fair use doctrine.” A parody only imitates an original work and doesn’t copy-paste it. Spaceballs is a very good example for a parody. For example: You can create a character that looks almost, but not exactly, like Pikachu and call it Lick-a-shoe. But if you copy the character and its name and make fun of it, that’s not fair use. And if you’d do it with something that I created, I’d sue you right away! Same goes for fanart: You can draw a character that looks like Samus, but you cannot name it Samus or use Logos etc. And you definitely can’t photoshop existing artwork and call it your own! These laws are there to protect artists from the copying or misrepresenting of their works. And if you don’t agree with these laws then you’re not an artist in the first place!!!

  2. This just reminds me that we’re finally getting a Pokémon game next year with home console graphics. A Pokémon game with (assumedly) free-moving camera controls. I’m also hoping for many more features that I’ve been thinking about, but either way I’m really looking forward to it. To hell with Pixelmon!

      1. Yeah, I mean they’ve taken down simple nonprofit rom hacks that is far less known than this. Not only has this been popular for years, but it had stuff you could buy.

  4. well, i think minecraft is cancer and wish i could take back all the time i used to play it… but pixelmon was so big at one point…. part of me is a bit sad… that part of me, however, can kill itself in a fire because i don’t care about it anymore.

  5. Ridley X3 {Jaded Ninty fan. Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch; just need cloud storage, add external HDD support, & to eliminate the need for that stupid Nintendo Switch Online App on smartphones.}

    If this was non-profit, tell TPC to go fuck themselves since they shouldn’t have any legal rights to stop modders not making money off of mods. Otherwise, you just give them this sudden big head to think they can just shut down any form of non-profit fan art or fan mods they want.
