Nintendo And Game Freak Apply For ‘Outbreak’ Trademark

Nintendo Co., Ltd. , Game Freak and Creatures Co., Ltd. have teamed together to apply for a trademark for ‘Outbreak’. The trademark isn’t for a new video game but is instead related to ‘viewing gardens, viewing caves, providing entertainment and providing information on them’. This is all related to the ‘Pikachu Outbreak’ event which is currently taking place in Yokohama.

Trying to trademark one single word that is commonly used? I so hope this doesn’t get past the entry phase. I gave King shit for trying to trademark or copyright words like saga, so Nintendo won’t be getting a pass either. Fuck out of here with this bullshit, NintenD’OH! *facepalm*

First hearing about this. *looks up cyberpunk & sees it’s commonly used* :/ Well I was gonna give them a pass if it hasn’t be used before but it has to describe a subgenre of science fiction so… *facepalm* These companies need to quit trying to trademark/copyright singular words that have been commonly used before.

Didn’t know about that, either, so they suck, too. Nintendo, King, CD Projekt RED, Bethesda & whoever else tries this crap. (Hopefully, as kirgon pointed out, there is some context added into the trademark/copyright & most articles on these subjects are just clickbait-y.)

    1. I think they are doing this in context.
Say someone else does something very similar to whatever Nintendo will use that word for and calls it … Outbrake as well.

Anything else would not work at court anyway (at least I hope so).

Except for King, though. They seem to be general assholes so I doubt there was any context involved with their attempts at copyrighting/trademarking words like saga by itself.

If they are trying to trademark the name Pokemon Outbreak, sure, but if they are trying to just trademark the one word (outbreak) & it gets past the entry phase, it just proves the trademark & copyright offices are full of idiots.
