Reggie Says Netflix And YouTube Conversations Are On-Going For Nintendo Switch

It seems North American retailer Best Buy jumped the gun far too early this week when they mentioned on their Nintendo Switch product page that Netflix and YouTube are available on the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says conversations with the two companies are still on-going, which makes it sound like they are a long way off to having a completed app for both services.

“When we launched the Switch, we were very clear we wanted to position the device as a game-playing device. We’ve done that, and so you’ve seen Hulu for example come on to the platform. In terms of other services, the conversations are on-going. We’ve got nothing to announce right now. But certainly those opportunities will come in due time.”

  2. I’m looking forward. Main reason I still got my WiiU hooked up is to use it for Netflix and Youtube. Which also gets me back to play on that ol fella once in a while, so it’s not the worst thing, but still, would be nice to just have the Switch for that.

And by the way: whoever posts they got their Switch mainly to play games: I love you so much. I really hope the appearance of HULU on the eshop didn’t change that.

  3. All this i own on mine iPad pro 12.9 where running better. Switch need internet browser, no aplication.

  4. I think Nintendo should add these applications including a web browser so people stop crying about it, I personally don’t care but its annoying how people mention that it doesn’t have these apps yet their iPads and tablets have them, well can they run Doom 2016 better than the Switch or if not be on par with the Switch?

  5. I’m thinking they are working on a big system update before the end of the year. I have a feeling it will include some free software. Web browser. Maybe a media player, and apps like YouTube, and Netflix, …..hope they bring instagram support to album postings

  6. I know I’m in the minority but personally I love having it just as a gaming device. It’s refreshing to have them just concentrate on pushing great content rather than adding a tin if bloat apps

  7. Not everyone has an iPad or tablet. Not everyone has a smart TV, either; smart TV owner here, so this isn’t a problem for me. Not everyone has a PS4, Roku box, Xbox One, etc. For those with only a Switch & can’t afford to buy something else with these features, having them on Switch would be a blessing. And I won’t call them crybabies, either. That’s just being an asshole.

I still think Hulu is paying Nintendo to keep them as the exclusive streaming service on Switch for a time. If Netflix, YouTube, & a web browser don’t come to Switch til sometime AFTER Hulu has their live TV service fully functional on Switch, this will confirm my theory for me. With Disney, Comcast, & Fox having equal ownership of the service (for now), I won’t really blame Nintendo for taking the money as they could be getting a nice little check from those guys. Because we all know if Netflix & YouTube get on the system before Hulu has a foothold, they’ll be crushed since Netflix is already kicking their ass everywhere else & YouTube has their own live TV service that would rival theirs; and possibly also kick their ass, too. But like any theory, I could be wrong so whatever.
