The Sonic the Hedgehog Movie could easily be declared a success after a troubled start. USA Today caught up with the film’s director Jeff Fowler to find out what’s next for the spiky blue hedgehog. Fowler suggests that if there is another Sonic the Hedgehog Movie the next would feature more characters from the Sonic universe like Tails and Knuckles etc. However, he does insist there’s no official talks or plans for a sequel.
“There’s so many more great characters to bring in and just more stories to tell,” says director Jeff Fowler, who calls the “Sonic” saga a “remarkable journey.” He insists that there are no official talks or plans for a sequel.
“(But) nothing would bring me more happiness than getting another shot with these characters and to tell more stories. We’d love to do more with the Sonic cinematic universe,.”
“We would get that question a lot from fans, ‘Is Tails in it? Is Knuckles in it?’ All these fan-favorite characters,” says Fowler. “We had to do that little fan Easter egg with Tails and say, ‘We know you love these characters. We will absolutely get to them in future stories if we’re able to.’ “
Predictions for Sonic Movie 2:
-Tails finds Sonic and informs him that Robotnik has arrived in their homeworld, formed an alliance with the Knuckles Clan, and together have taken it over. This was the event that prompted Tails to search for Sonic
-Robotnik builds Metal Sonic, using Sonic’s quill to power it; despite having the upper hand, it is still defeated by Sonic
-The Chaos Emeralds will be introduced; Robotnik and the Knuckles Clan already have some of them, prompting Sonic and Tails to obtain the rest of them before their opposition can
-Knuckles will initially be against Sonic and Tails, but will defect to their side before the finale
-In a mid-credits scene, Robotnik will be shown to still have Sonic’s quill AND a Chaos Emerald, and uses the power of the Emerald to reverse-engineer Sonic’s quill, creating Shadow
I’ll be amazed if any of this is correct.
They basically set it up for a sequel by showing Tails. With as well as it did, even surpassing Detective Pikachu’s box office sales, it would be stupid not to. I doubt talks have started since all this virus stuff has shut most things down, but I imagine once things progress back to normal that’ll come up for discussion. I think Jim Carey was even open to doing sequels, which he usually doesn’t care to do.
Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber (despite 20 years later) are his only known sequel roles.
At least you cut out the negative portion from the title.
Part of the reason the movie worked was because they focused on doing a good story instead of using it to set up a cinematic universe *cough* THE MUMMY *cough*
The Mummy definitely should have focused on the mummy and saved Jekyll & Hyde for a post-credits scene. I’m a sucker for Tom Cruise movies, though, so it’s a guilty pleasure of mine.
I seriously need to get around to watching the film. But it will have to wait. Life waits for no man! D:
