Super Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has taken to his Famitsu magazine column to talk about a number of scrapped and behind the scenes ideas that he and the team had for incorporating the universe of the super popular Minecraft to Super Smash Bros Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch. As you would expect, Mr. Sakurai had plenty of ideas, not all of which were incorporated into the game with the arrival of Steve and Alex. Here’s some interesting tidbits:
- “We went to Microsoft to present the idea. They were very pleased.”
- “We were looking for a way to make edits based on stages made on Minecraft then into Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but unfortunately, we quickly gave up on it. As expected, it was a bit too much.”
- “The music production was the toughest time we faced out of all Smash Bros production. We couldn’t use some songs from the original work due to various reasons!”
- “There were a few tracks that we abandoned in the middle of the arrangement. In the end, I think we were able to find common ground without losing the mood thanks to the hard work of the musicians.”

All the people saying there where copyright issues with the music might be correct. Sakurai was just being nice in the announcement if that’s the case.

Why do you say that? Minecraft is the one of the most influential games of all time.
