DOOM fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM Eternal on Nintendo Switch but those who were wanting to pick up a physical version of the title may be disappointed to learn that the game will now only be available digitally. IGN learned of the news via a spokesperson from Bethesda stating that the title is “100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled pre-orders.” They added, “Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information.”
We still don’t know a solid release date for DOOM Eternal for Nintendo Switch, but hopefully the statement above means it’ll crop up on digital storefronts very soon. The game has seen high praise from critics and fans alike with the first-person shooter improving on everything that the first in the new generation of DOOM titles achieved.
Big bummer. The sales wouldn’t have been that high in the first place, but I guess this makes things a bit worse.
I’m not a Doom guy but,man this is BS,such a big AAA title shouldn’t be a digital only release, hopefully they’ll eventually produce some physical units once the pandemic is over.
At least i hope they won’t do that crap of putting a download code in a case like Blizzard did with Overwatch.
Probably won’t be getting it now then or at least will be waiting for a big discount. Really disappointed
Great, best delete everything on my sd, so can download this game.
This is annoying imo.
Please make physical, I don’t want to carry around a turdy 100,000 gig game in my switch
i am pretty certain at this point a company like Limited Run will swoop in and do a physical release of it like they did for Doom 64. My bigger concern and I imagine the reason they canceled it, was it was probably going to be a half-physical, download the rest BS, and I imagine those dont sell well anyway with those who want to buy physical releases in the first place, so they probably realized it wouldnt be something that sells.
Don’t you guys have memory cards?!
