It is the start of a new week, which means that the latest GfK Top 10 physical game charts have been released in the UK. This week is the Christmas one, for the week ending December 19th. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla managed to make it to the top spot. It’s the first time that an Assassin’s Creed game had a Christmas #1 spot on the GfK Top 10.
Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 dropped 80% in sales compared to last week, going from #1 to #3. Although the negative press it has been getting due to its poor technical performance on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 may seem to be the reason, according to GamesIndustry, “it’s not hugely unusual for a game such as this. Indeed, other games that secured big pre-orders, like The Last of Us: Part Two in the summer, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in November, both dropped by 80% and 70% respectively in their second week”.
What about Nintendo? Well, once again, Nintendo has 4 different Nintendo Switch exclusive titles on the GfK Top 10 charts. However, this time, they’re all first-party titles. Ring Fit Adventure got a 155% sales increase, thanks to Christmas sales. And a 44% sales increase helped Super Mario 3D All-Stars keep its #10 spot.
If you’re curious about past Christmas #1s on these charts, the historical record on this had been shared. Although Nintendo didn’t have a Christmas #1 charting this year, if they had done so, it wouldn’t have been the first time. The last time Nintendo had a first-party game do it was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in 1998. The full chart data is down below.

I believe this is among the weirdest things this weird year has come up with. Everytine a new corona wave hits, everytime a new wave of lockdown comes up, Ring Fit Adventure reenters the charts. I know its totally logical but still, what a weird development.
It’s that Brie Larson commercial, for sure :P
In all seriousness, I have a family member who showed zero interest in the Switch up to this point who perked up with all sorts of questions about it after having seen that commercial. It did a good job of appealing to some of the old Wii crowd who has yet to return to console gaming.
