Japanese flagship station of the All-Nippon News Network, TV Asahi, has produced a viewer-based feature on the best video games of all-time. The list, which was comprised of over 50,000 votes, is certainly interesting and unexpected as there is a number of fairly recent video games in the top ten. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch system was voted as the best video game of all-time . Here’s the top ten games voted by viewers of TV Asahi:
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Dragon Quest V
- Final Fantasy VII
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Splatoon 2
- Dragon Quest III
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate
- Chrono Trigger
- Final Fantasy X
- Super Mario Bros. 3
Well that’s a stretch but then again naming any game best of all time is going to be a stretch.
What’s even more of a stretch is that New Horizons is up there, as it’s not even the best game in the series.
New Horizons is the best when it comes to customizing the landscape but falls short in practically everything else. The first game remains the most comfy to me.
Japan seems to really be into Nintendo and Square Enix, mainly the JRPG from Square of course
It’s a good game. Look at all the “BOTW clones” that has come out since then.
For those who are curious or too lazy to look it up, here are the rest of that list.

Quick note, its 100 from Persona 3 to 11 on Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.
I’m surprised Mother is on here. Maybe I am biased since I played Earthbound before it, but it feels very weak as far as RPG’s go.
Huh, well I’m glad to see Persona 3 on here, even if it only just made the cut.
This is an interesting list alright, thats all I’m gonna say on the topic.
Well that and that its nice to see a few western games in there as well. Apex Legends (30th place) is a bit of a surprise for me, didn’t know it was popular in Japan.
Criminal Resident Evil 4 didn’t make this list.
