Using their internal data, Twitter has revealed the most talked about video games throughout the course of 2021, with many of them being available or slated for Nintendo Switch.
The free-to-play action RPG phenomenon from miHoYo, Genshin Impact, unsurprisingly takes the crown at #1, and although confirmed for Switch, yet rumored to be delayed due to hardware limitations, hopefully it arrives to the platform sooner rather than later. You can check out the full top 10 list below, with all the current Switch games being highlighted in bold.
- Genshin Impact
- Apex Legends
- Ensemble Stars
- Final Fantasy
- Fate/Grand Order
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Knives Out
- Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage!
As for gaming related discussion in general, a whopping 2.4 billion topical tweets were made in total during the year, which is a 14% increase from the year prior. Q4 2021 in particular was the biggest quarter for gaming tweets in Twitter’s history. With the rise in popularity of many streamers and content creators, and big game releases from major publishers like Metroid Dread and Halo Infinite, there’s no doubt as to why gamers had a lot to share and discuss in 2021.
