Pokemon Sword & Shield art director leaves Game Freak to start new venture

James Turner, who worked as the art director at Games Freak for the best-selling Pokemon Sword & Shield for the Nintendo Switch family of systems has announced that he has left the company and has started his own venture with a friend. Mr. Turner has created a new video game studio which is titled All Possible Futures and he promises that they will share a first look at what they have been working on in due course.

    1. Lmfao, I was about to comment the same thing. I got nothing against him, but he certainly wasn’t doing new gen pokemon a favor with his artistic direction…

    2. Ouch… can’t say I disagree. While I liked some of his niche Pokémon designs, I prefer the jap Pokémon designs overall. They’re more Pokémon-like.

      He got promoted really fast in TPC, I thought he’s there to stay. I’m a bit surprised.

    3. “Could care less” implies that you do somewhat care, you’re saying that it’s possible for you to care less than you currently do.

    4. I have very mixed feelings about his departure. On the one hand he created some Pokemon that I love like Phantump and Centiskortch, but I felt like gen 8 was the weakest as far as designs go when he was director. I’m not sure if he was the director for SV but I’m already liking the designs better from last gen. (Also I don’t know why get so bent out of shape over Vanillite when diaper mons like Vullaby and Toxel exist. Horrible.)
