The head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka has appeared on IGN live stream and has stated that he would love to continue the much-loved Sonic Adventure series which first started on the Dreamcast in 1998. He said that Sonic Frontiers will possibly pave the way for a new Sonic Adventure game due to the teams experience working with the new game engine and their continued experience of accommodating Sonic in a large open 3D space.
Iizuka-san: I’ve mentioned this in previous interviews, but I would like to continue the Sonic Adventure series. Sonic Adventure also contains smaller open spaces known as Adventure Fields. I think we’ve used what we learned with those in this game as well. I haven’t thought about my next game yet. But I personally think it’d be nice if we could use what we learn with this game in Sonic Adventure.

YES PLEASE! PLEEEEAAAAASE!
What did they learn exactly? Frontiers looks it’ll be one of those “learn from your mistakes” projects.
Wishlist for a third Sonic Adventure game:
New Hedgehog character
Stand-alone sequel
Chao Garden
Current voice actors
I actually dislike the current voice cast, minus Mike Pollock.
They’ll probably find some type of way to cram classic sonic in their like they usually do, I honestly wonder how it’ll play out though as sonic imo seem to run pretty slow compared to other 3d games imo
I just hope lizuka remembers what make those games so special and unique if he chose to continue the series. Even so, Sonic Team is using Sonic Frontiers gameplay and open world aspects for their advantage to bring adventure fans back to the franchise.
I understand what he is saying. He is using Sonic Frontiers open world field elements as a advantage to possibly make another Sonic adventure game. I think I see the point on why people are still a little concerned over Sonic Frontiers combat abilities and it’s graphics. I’m not saying Sonic Frontiers is going to be delayed, I’m saying that Sonic Frontiers is SEGA or Sonic Team only shot to expand the Sonic brand of the Sonic universe and take things a little slow to make sure fans sees what they wanted to see in the game.
Why are you linking to resetera instead of the article source?
https://www.sonicstadium.org/2022/06/iizuka-reveals-hopes-of-using-sonic-frontiers-work-towards-future-sonic-adventure-sequel/
Because I don’t think there was a link to the source other than the IGN YouTube video on Resetera when I wrote this, hence why I linked to Resetera. Changed it now.
Wait, I’m sorry WHAT?!
Just bring back the Chao Garden and it’ll be a 10/10 game
What about controls, physics, and other character campaigns, etc.?
That’ll just be a bonus at this point lmao
I wanted them to bring it back for a longtime now. I miss them.
As an adventure era fan, I know I should be happy; however, this isn’t the same Sonic team from back then.
I trust Ian Flynn’s writing when it comes to stories, but this Sonic team needs to prove I just got what it takes to make a quality adventure game
Much as I like a new Adventure game I don’t feel like I can trust Iizuka and ST to handle it properly.
They should atleast remake SA1 & 2 and then see what they can use from the remakes for a SA3.
I’m going to say it.
It’s going to be shit! The Sonic franchuse isn’t ready for Sonic Adventure 3, especially not with these current writers.
As for Ian Flynn, the man may be a decent writer, but he has a distinct writing style where it wouldn’t feel like a sequel to the Dreamcast game from 2001, but an extension of the Archie/IDW comics. The only reason I’ve accepted those is because they were always their own thing, which never interfered with the games, and they we’re never outright awful to sit through.
As for me, I’m already working on a Sonic Adventure 3. I’m still working out the detail of the overall plot, but I have an idea as to what each character’s campaign will focus on. This probably doesn’t mean jack to the average internet troll, but I’M serious about what I’m trying to do
If this thing releases in the new two years, it’s most likely not going to have the following:
-Multiple character campaigns
-Character theme songs
-A proper Chao World (which requires porting the same A-Life system from SA2, whether it be the DC, GC or Steam ports)
-Emblems
-SA/SA2 gameplay (NO BOOST, NO PARKOUR, NO OPEN-WORLD BOTW RIPOFF MAPS)
I know many people are itching to have an SA3 in their homes, but it can easily fail, and the backlash will just tell Iizuka/SEGA “never again”. Simply put, we’re not ready yet. Hell, there’s a whole decide of Sonic games that need to be fixed before we can feasibly get to SA3. SEGA already threw away most of their resources from the Dreamcast era, and a third entry built off of Forces is just going to be ugly.
But still, at least let the public buy/play Frontiers first before making ballsy decisions like this!
And I’m dead serious, WE ARE NOT READY! I just don’t want Sonic Adventure 3’s one chance to crash and burn, and ruin it for everyone.
I believe that it would be possible to port over the assets and algorithms and such for the Chao Garden and make levels with SA-style gameplay in mind, but… How are you going to pull off character themes, assuming they’d be new?
How many characters and different play styles do you have thought out for this? Tell me Silver is one of them.
