The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been nothing short of successful for Illumination and Nintendo. In fact, all signs have been pointing to the movie being more successful than fans may have ever expected. The movie could very well win awards in the future. One of them could even be an Oscar.
The reason for that is that Universal has confirmed to Variety that a song by Bowser in the movie, “Peaches”, is eligible to be submitted for an Oscar. If so, it would be in the running for “Best Original Song”. The song was recently made into a music video and released on YouTube. not only has it reached #2 in trending music on the site, but the video has surpassed 5,000,000 views.
Jack Black’s performance of Bowser was easily the best of the cast (Luigi, Peach, and Toad’s actors were fine, I was unimpressed with Pratt’s Mario, and the less said of Seth Rogan’s Donkey Kong, the better- John C. Reilly would’ve been a much better pick). “Peaches” got a lot of laughs from the audience when I went, both in the movie proper and during the mid-credits bit. I don’t know that there’s actually Oscar material there with it, but the song is, at least, entertaining.
I love Tenacious D and i love Jack Black, but Peaches song is stupid!
Ridiculous.
No.2 in trending music and has surpassed 5 million views, If this song doesn’t get an oscar then we have failed as a society.
Awful song. The only thing I didn’t like in the movie…
I think it was deliberately meant to be cringe-worthy. Got a lot of laughs in the cinema I was at!
its a good song
As another said, they actually let Jack Black go full-on Jack Black as Bowser.
