A few months ago, it was confirmed that employees for SEGA of America were interested in unionizing. They were briefly met with a little resistance from SEGA‘s higher ups around a month ago, but it seems that this resistance has evaporated and the unionizing plans were allowed to continue for employees of the house of Sonic the Hedgehog‘s North American subsidiary.
Well, another major step towards the unionizing process has happened today. It has been announced that, by a vote of 91 to 26, SEGA of America’s employees have voted to unionize. The union will be called the Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega, or AEGIS for short. You can see AEGIS’s tweet about the matter down below.
Well there goes Sega. The employees will learn to regret this over time as they have no idea how cancerous unions are. I wish everyone luck but i sense this is not going to be good for the company.
Hey Sega fold and then call yourself Sega but with a backwards g. That will teach em.
Honestly who thinks unions do anything anymore all they do is protect the useless and the lazy.
Welp, Sega is dead.
Not wanting to work 11 hours a day, 7 days a week, just to ship a sonic game that probably is still going to be buggy isn’t lazy. The video game industry is known to be one of the most toxic industries to work in. So this seems to be a step in the right direction. I hope more video game industries unionize. Honestly might make the games better
So your saying this is a bad idea for the company by making a big mistake like this?
Jonathan do you have union experience?
I do and i will tell you what happens. I work 11 hours a day and get paid for 8. Some days i work more. The ppl in my department dont put in their time and they dont work. They do the minimum so all that falls on me. I support 8 lazy do nothings and vecause i am in charge i will lose my job if i dont pick up the work they dont do. The union protects the hell out of these no good losers. I cant get a single one reprimanded let alone fired.
So i either quit or i accept that this is what i must do to survive. So far because i am damn good at my job i stay. But i wont keep doing this forever. Oh you should guess what my salary is? It would blow your mind. Thats another reason i stay. But its not affordable for the ppl feeding the system. Something will have to give.
Now take Sega and multiply that by a factor of probably 100. My union is small.
Nothing is going to get done by the employees. Someone will have to get the work done however but the people who can do the work will quit and leave. Guess where they will go? The private sector.
The union will literally then staff itself with over paid do nothing ppl and the company Sega will be forced to fold. But thats ok because the parasites at the top will get what they want but not the bottom feeders.
This is what unions do to companies. They give the illusion they are a helpful entity but they are not. Sega is going down.
I feel like there are major differences between British Unions and American Unions…
Lord Foxxy Foxington
Nope .. Wishful thinking.
No one wants to work no more. Unions literally protect the useless. Worse unions attack the useful.
This will destroy Sega of America workers will be very spoiled they will not want to work hard on anything, maybe Sega of America will close in the end.
John Chris Redfield
Yeh its sad .. I know there are problems in the game industry but this isnt how to solve the problem. Maybe it will turn out great but i doubt it.
Damn, lots of anti-union people in here. Idk about other industries, but I work for local 600 (camera union for tv/movies) and without our union our work would be a complete sh*t show. The production companies try to squeeze as much out of us as we can and the working conditions and hours are tough even with the union, but without it we would be completely taken advantage of and make so little money it would be a joke. I can’t speak for other kinds of work, but in the entertainment industry it’s a MUST and I imagine it’d be similar when it comes to gaming.
When companies like Amazon try to crush unions you just know it would be better for the workers.
I guess anti union propaganda just works too well
@Tt
do you work in america or in europe? i have never heard of a union that doesn’t pay you for the amount of work you do for over time cause im america that’s illegal and well you could sue.
Not people on here saying unions are bad… Unions fight for worker rights. Workers under a union generally have secured worker rights, improved wages, and have better paid time off.
