Bandai Namco finally lifted the lid on the long-awaited third game in the Little Nightmares series, and it looks fantastic. One issue that has arisen with the game is that it will not include a couch co-op mode. The team says that they decided not to include the local multiplayer mode because they wish to preserve the “atmosphere and immersion”. However, Little Nightmares 3 will include online co-op play, despite local co-op play being one of the most requested features by fans of the series.
“Little Nightmares is obviously a different type of horror game than the sort of things we traditionally make,” Supermassive’s game director Wayne Garland tells me. “Dark Pictures, The Quarry, Until Dawn, they tend to be explicit horror. It’s all through the characters and how they’re driving the story in a very clear narrative. Little Nightmares 3 is much more implicit in that way. You find a lot of the horror through moving through the environmental setting, the actions of the antagonist, the character’s influence, the sound. And really, that’s what gives you that sense of unease you feel as you traverse the world.”
“Although Supermassive’s past work has featured both local and online co-op modes, the Little Nightmares team has taken this propensity for silliness into account, says Garland. “We’ve been asked questions about online versus couch co-op. Couch is something that we considered, but again, when you come back to the atmosphere and the immersion that we’re trying to elicit through Little Nightmares, I think it was important for us that we stuck to our online co-op only rather than traditional more party aspects.””

So… they’ll have online co-op but not local co-op…? Like… wtf? Why allow online play and not local? Aren’t they the same thing (both multiplayer features at their core) except online takes more effort to implement? Why not do both at once instead of cutting out the easier and no-brained local co-op feature for those who find it applicable?? Like why remove such a standard feature
I just don’t understand, it seems so self contradictory and stupid to me… I hope I didn’t make it seem like a dealbreaker or anything, I just think it’s really dumb to include online co-op but not local… like wtf
Then they can fuck themselves.
Personally it’s not a deal breaker but still, what a bunch of rubbish.
Pretty dumb reasoning. People play coop because they want a shared experience even at the expense of “tone”. Online coop is no different, especially with voice services. Pretty crummy of them to try and dictate peoples emotions while playing. They might as well take any multiplayer out if they care so much about their game being taken “seriously”.
To preserve 2 sales of the game
This seems like an incredibly weak excuse. Not a deal breaker for me but still pretty lame.
This wasn’t made by the original devs, so I will wait with my purchase to see if it is any good.
Tarsier made the original two games. This is Supermassive making this one. They did a port of LN2 and got handed the franchise by BN after Tarsier left.
Honestly, I’m really nervous that this won’t be that good, as the music, tone, backgrounds and general vibes all seem slightly off.
This feels like an imitation, and that’s what frightens me the most.
Modern smartphone photography has reached a point where the gap between mobile shots and entry-level DSLRs is becoming almost indistinguishable for daily content. I’ve been researching whether the latest hardware justifies an upgrade and specifically looked into does the iphone 17 have a good camera for handling low-light outdoor scenes. The expert review I found gave a very honest assessment of the sensor improvements and color science updates for this generation.
